Modern Rooftop Apartment - Casa Hiedra Sayulita

Overview

About the property

1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, rooftop apartment close to plaza and the beach

Casa Hiedra Sayulita is a vacation rental located in south Sayulita on Calle Primavera. With only a 5 minute walk to the town centre and the main beach, this is the perfect spot to be near the action but still have your own secluded getaway. The unit is perfect for singles or couples.

The rooftop apartment is a brand new one bedroom suite with its own private entrance. The bedroom features a king sized bed with premium mattress and an ensuite bathroom with a rain shower. It has a kitchenette with a sink, refrigerator, two burner stove-top, toaster oven, and coffee maker. The kitchenette opens onto a spacious rooftop patio with a pergola and outdoor dining set. We supply purified water for drinking and have A/C available from June 1st - October 31st.

One of the great things about our home is there are no steep hills en-route from town, only a few gradual inclines! Our location in the quiet, residential neighborhood of South Sayulita is situated close to the town center and main beach, but also provides walking distance access to two other spectacular beaches. A 5-10 minute walk towards town will have you in the center of all the action - restaurants, bars, and shops - in the plaza, or sunbathing and surfing on the main beach. If you walk 20-30 minutes in the other direction you will find yourself at Playa de los Muertos, a great swimming beach, or the secluded and stunning Playa Carricitos.

We also have a lot of great amenities just down the road from us. Terranal is a lovely little organic store with all kinds of specialty foods and natural remedies available. Right next door to that is Sayulita Wines which has one of the best selections of wines, tequilas, and mezcals in town! La Esperanza is just across the street from there and they have delicious, organic meals (especially breakfast!) as well as smoothies and other healthy drinks. Feel free to ask us more about our favourite spots in town!

Sayulita is a vibrant and charming community, but part of its charm is that it is somewhat untamed. Though our home is typically fairly quiet, sometimes you will awake to hear roosters cock-a-doodle-doo-ing or vendors calling out, peddling their wares.

We have a small team here at Casa Hiedra who are available to help make your stay as enjoyable as possible! Alfonso & Mary are the owners of the property and live part time in the property's main house and part time in the States. Stacey, the rental manager, lives in Sayulita full time (offsite from Casa Hiedra) and is usually the primary contact for guests. We also have Lina and Christian, our housekeeper and gardener respectively, who work hard to create a fresh, clean space for your stay.

About Alfonso & Mary

We have a small team here at Casa Hiedra who are available to help make your stay as enjoyable as possible!

Alfonso & Mary are the owners of the property and live part time in the property's main house and part time in the States. Mary loves to garden and decorate (hence the beautiful spaces in and around the casa). Alfonso is not only the owner, but also the talented builder who created this beautiful home. He is always working on creative building projects.

Alfonso & Mary purchased this apartment in 2010

Why Alfonso & Mary chose Sayulita

Sayulita is a beautiful place to visit and is unlike anything else in the area. Once a small fishing village, it has evolved into a charming destination for people from around the world to experience sun, surf, and local culture. English and Spanish are both widely spoken in Sayulita, making it the perfect destination for North American and Mexican tourists alike.

What makes this apartment unique

Our home is the perfect distance to town center and the beach - close enough to walk and far enough for peace and quiet. The rooftop apartment was designed with your comfort in mind. You will experience modern convenience and comfort inside your private suite, with the charm of small-town Mexico right outside your door.

Comfortable, cool, and private

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed the unit and its large, cool, rooftop patio where we relaxed after hot walks and swims. It was well furnished and equipped, and very secure - well positioned for the beaches and the village centre. Mary was an attentive and kind host.

Beautiful space, perfect for two

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at this new rooftop apartment. The patio and view were lovely and we had our coffee outside every morning. The apartment was about a ten minute walk to the village: away from the noise and crowds but close enough to be a short stroll. The air conditioning and wifi worked well. It was super clean and had a water dispensing system so you didn't need to lug water bottles up the hill. Stacey was an excellent communicator and shared restaurant recommendations and other info. We hope to stay here again!

Great one-bedroom apartment, on quiet hill, perfect base for all Sayulita activities

  • 5 of 5

Quiet location on a hill, fairly close to village center, and equidistant from the main (surfers) beach and the more intimate Playa de los Muertos. Cross-ventilation, ceiling fan and bedroom size provided cool surroundings in a generally hot climate. The large patio, with wide views of the neighbourhood, was perfect for meals, relaxation and entertaining guests. All appliances worked to our satisfaction. Although the stark, atypical, atmosphere (concrete floors, grey walls with black trimmings) could be improved by the addition of a few colourful mats or wall hangings, we found the apartment pleasant and quite functional. The owners were very accommodating during the negotiation period and appropriately discrete during our stay. Excellent value for the reasonable rent.

Location

Nearest Airport
38.5 Kilometres
Puerto Vallarta
Nearest Beach
0.5 Kilometres
Sayulita Main Beach
Car: not necessary

**Please note that our location on Google Maps is not accurate! Please tell your taxi driver to turn left (away from the ocean) from Niños Heroes onto Calle Primavera. We are the last house on the right, on the corner of Primavera and Naranjito.**

There are a few different options for getting to Sayulita from the airport in Puerto Vallarta: rental cars, taxis, private suburbans, or bus.

Rental cars are available at the airport, but make sure to book ahead of time to get the best price. This can be convenient if you are planning to take a lot of day trips to other spots, but cars are not the best mode of transportation in Sayulita itself.

Taxis usually charge somewhere in the neighbourhood of 1200 pesos (approx $60 USD) for a one way trip from the airport and they will drop you right off at Casa Hiedra's front door. You can haggle with the drivers - some people pay as little as 600 pesos for this type of trip - but it will depend on your driver and your negotiation skills.

You can also book a suburban with one of the private transport companies in town such as Amanecer Transportation. These sit up to 7 people and include round-trip fare door-to-door, cold drinks, and a short stop at the Mega (one of the bigger Mexican grocery stores on the way to Sayulita) for around $130 USD. We are happy to arrange this for you - just send us a message and ask!

The bus from the airport is fairly easy to use and will only cost 40 pesos per person. You catch the green and white Compostela buses that have Sayulita painted on the windshield. Just walk across the pedestrian walkway to the left of the airport exit and the bus stop is on the other side of the street. The bus will take you right to Sayulita (it is the last stop), but the only bus stop in Sayulita is currently located on the Punta de Mita highway on the far east side of town - meaning you would have to carry your luggage through town for about 20 minutes to get to Casa Hiedra. If you choose to take the bus, we would recommend doing so if you have light luggage, or if you arrange with Sayulita Taxi to pick you up at the bus stop.

Once you are here, most of the town is easily accessible on foot. We are located up a gradual hill, but the incline is not much compared to some other areas of town. Again, cars are not usually the best mode of transport within Sayulita as there is limited parking space in town and traffic usually moves fairly slowly. We do have a driveway, but it does not always have room for a rental car, so please inquire if you are thinking about driving down. If you would like to have a vehicle in Sayulita, golf carts are usually the way to go as they are smaller and therefore provide better mobility in the busy streets. We do have parking spaces with outlets in the driveway if you would like to rent a golf cart in town.

Directions from the bus stop to Casa Hiedra:

- cross the street from the bus stop and proceed directly ahead down the dirt road (Calle Tortuga) until you hit a dead end

- turn left here and then turn right at the next dead end (Calle Pelicanos)

- continue down this road until you come to the bridge (it will be on your right side)

- turn left, away from the bridge, and stick to the right side of the fork in the road (Calle Revolucion)

- follow this road past the plaza (on your left) and then take the next right after the plaza (Calle Niños Heroes - you can only turn right here, not left)

- follow the gradual incline of Niños Heroes and take your second left onto Calle Primavera (there will be a road sign on the white house on the corner)

- Casa Hiedra is the last house on the right - it is covered in ivy
