About this property

Clyde River Retreat (Budawang Cottage)

Nestled along the upper reaches of the Clyde River (the cleanest and most pristine waterway in Eastern Australia) lies the Clyde River Retreat – a haven of beauty, peace and tranquility. The perfect place to stay if you want to visit Pigeon House, The Castle or any of the other spectacular locations in Morton National Park or Budawang National Park.

We have 3 cabins for rent on 90 acres, for up to 14 guests.

Note that you do not need a 4WD just to get to the retreat, but you may need one to explore some areas such as the National Parks.

The Clyde River Retreat is surrounded on all sides by State Forest and National Park, kilometres from the nearest neighbours (other than the native wildlife) it is a perfect place to get away from it all.

With over half a kilometre of river frontage, the retreat is perfect for fishing or swimming in the Clyde river, bush-walking in the local forests, or for use as a launching point for exploring the surrounding national parks.

For artists, writers and musicians, the retreat offers something unique – an unspoilt environment and a simple lifestyle that will recharge your creative energies and enrich your artistic endeavors.

The retreat has three separate cabins that can accommodate up to sixteen people – perfect for special-interest groups who need a place free from all distractions from the outside world.

Or for anyone who just needs a place of unparalleled privacy and seclusion, to de-stress or de-tox periodically.

Budawang Cottage

This listing is for the Budawang Cottage - 2 bedrooms, accommodation for up to 6 people. Both bedrooms have three single beds. There is a fully equipped kitchen, open plan living/dining area, an internal bathroom with shower, and an external toilet.

Other Cabins

See our separate listings for the other cabins on the retreat - the Carisbrook Lodge (3 bedrooms, accommodates up to 6 people) and the Didthul Cot (1 bedroom, accommodates 2 people).

Pets

We do allow some pets, but no cats please. Dogs are allowed but limited to one per cabin. They must be kept on a leash while outside on the retreat.

Other things to note

Our property is an intentionally rustic retreat - completely "off-grid", and in keeping with the natural surroundings. Our facilities may not be suitable for the elderly, the infirm, or for those with limited mobility. If you have any questions, please contact us to discuss before booking.

Great location in nature
Great experience at the Budawang cottage. The cottage has everything you need for a comfortable stay, and there’s loads to explore in the surroundings. My 8 y/o and I had a blast during our father-son weekend together

Great for observing nature
Had a great time at this property, plenty to do if you like the outdoors. A plus to owner for providing recycling and compost bins. And love the artwork in the house. Property description could be improved to better describe the facility.

escape to the bush
Thanks to the friendly hosts for making their lovely piece of pristine river and bush available. The sturdy little off-grid cottage has all the basics, the location is great for kayaking, bushwalks, or just enjoying some get-away-from-it-all relaxation.

Definitely away from it all
This is a very cosy cabin literally in the middle of nowhere, but a very beautiful setting. Ross and Joanne were very welcoming. Loved seeing the lyrebird and wallabies. I would urge everyone to read the explanation about the facilities and think hard about whether they are going to suit you. While having an outside toilet didn’t bother me, it did freak out the kids a bit and it wasn’t fun having to escort them every time they needed to pee during the night! We still had a really fun time however.
