Good For The Right Kind Of Person

  • 3 of 5

This could be the right vacation property for the right kind of person. Our family of 3 stayed here for one week in early August 2016. We planned for months for this vacation desiring an isolated place with a beautiful view in the midst of the French countryside. This mostly hit the mark. First, here are the advantages and disadvantages from our point of view.

ADVANTAGES: Great location, beautiful views, a great feeling of being away from it all, and a great (and safe) grass yard for our 5-year-old boy to play. Very creative house, kind and professional owner who quickly responds to correspondence. Ample supply of board games and a well-supplied kitchen. We saw deer in the morning from an adjacent property.

DISADVANTAGES: No internet access at all in the house although the owner listed it in the amenities. For our purposes, we needed basic email access so we had to drive into town (about 5-8 minutes drive away) to connect. We may not have booked this property had we known this. Additionally, we could not get data on our French phones (Orange) at this property. Secondly, the pictures make the house seem larger than it really is. My wife and I are tall. I am 6 ft (1.8 meters) tall and this house has low ceilings - especially on the first floor. Also, the main front door is low and I kept hitting my head coming in and out of the house. The double bed in the master bedroom seemed comfortable. Yet, the bed actually consists of two twin beds. They are adjustable electric beds which allow you to elevate the head or feet much like a hospital bed. They are put together (side-by-side). My side of the bed was permanently stuck in an elevated position for the feet which created an interesting sleep position as my feet were slightly elevated above my waist. We mentioned this to the owner - she didn't respond to our request. We later found out that the second bed (the one I slept in) is broken. Lastly, we admire the owners' creativity with lots of nick-nacks placed in the common spaces of the house. Yet, it limits the space you have to unpack your clothes and other items. There is only one-half of one closet to hang clothes for those using the master bedroom. This closet is actually located in the 3rd bedroom. We just used the extra bed in the 3rd bedroom to lay out all our clothes. This seems like a great place for the right person. We just were not the right people for this property.

We found the city of Ambert to have lots of activities for our child.

Owner's Response: Back to old farming and authenticity is a real experience , that's correct. Internet connexion can be pretty capricious sometimes but still exists with appropriate tools, I' II make it clearer on the site , thank you. Centuries ago when the farm was built , people in Auvergne were small, weather very harsch that's explain their building habits . Some books are avaible on our bookselves related to this interesting countryside history. No broken or hospital beds , actually they are brend new coming from Ikea !it's only how to use the remote control linked to a battery above the bed , sorry you dind't find how it worked and I didn't explain myself precisly by phone . I 'II prepare a paper note how tu use it . For hanging cloth you probably missed one wearing for clothing behind the door in the kid's bedroom so as a dresser with 3 draws; and another wearing for clothing in the main bedroom you stayed in next to your bed . Sincerely . Nathalie.

Ressourcement exceptionnel, confort moyen

  • 3 of 5

  • 4 of 5

On va certainemet y revenir. Stephan & Anja.

Au calme et au grand air

  • 4 of 5
