About this property

Altavilla (base of MT BULLER)

Altavilla is a luxurious and spacious fully furnished 3 bedroom self contained home surrounded by significant and tranquil gardens.

Altavilla is your all year round retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Located at the base of Mt Buller in the beautiful township of Merrijig, Altavilla is an ideal destination for families or small groups looking to take advantage of the skiing in the winter, or outdoor endeavours throughout the rest of the year.

Nestled quietly high atop the majestic manicured garden punctuated with wattles and Australian natives, the house looks proudly across to tall eucalypts and pines of Sawmill Settlement, then further up the mountain with uninterrupted views of Mt. Sterling in the North and Mt. Buller to the East. As the morning sun breaks across the ridges of the Great Dividing Range, the house is bathed in light throughout the day until the sun slowly passes behind Alpine Ridge in the evening.

Inside the house the master bedroom features built in robes and a full size ensuite with bath. The room opens out onto a raised deck that steps down to join the main deck bordering the front of the entire house. The large deck area is perfect for barbecuing, a quiet glass of wine, or a hot coffee on an icy morning.

The second double bedroom includes a queen size bed and separate walk in closet.

The third bedroom consists of 2 sets of matching bunks, a 2 seater couch and windows opening to the private rear garden.

Tastefully scattered throughout the house and featured in all bedrooms are original paintings by a local artist inspired by the tranquility and serenity in abundance.

Altavilla comfortably sleeps a maximum of 8 guests with hotel quality white bedding and linen provided at no extra cost. Arrive, kick back and relax!

A fully equipped laundry allows you to wash and dry clothes at your convenience, and the drying room at the front of the house is perfect for storing your skies, boards and bikes after long days toiling in the sun and snow, without bringing any mess into the house.

Escape the world and leave the city behind. Whether you're looking for mountain bike riding, bush walking, skiing, snow boarding, tobogganing, horse riding, fishing, boating, or even taking a scenic helicopter flight, everything is right at your doorstep.

Merrijig in any season. Perfect!

Take in the fresh Alpine air with a leisurely walk on one of the many tracks along the Delatite River.Try your luck at fly fishing and catch your own dinner. Hit the slops in winter with Mt Buller and Mt Sterling only minutes away.

Take a tour of the award wining local wineries or enjoy a leisurely lunch in the sunshine. Get involved in the many festivals and markets throughout the year. Dust off the cowboy boots for the Merrijig Rodeo on the Labour Day long weekend. Do the Mt Buller Nature Summit Walk in summer. Get on two wheels and challenge yourself to a mountainous road ascent, or the exhilarating downhill tracks or take a trail ride on horseback through the Victorian high country.

If the water's your thing, enjoy water skiing and wake boarding at Goughs Bay in Lake Eildon only 25 minutes away.

With the famous town of Mansfield 15 minutes away, pamper yourself at a day spa, then enjoy the local produce at the weekly farmers market.

Weekend
Cozy stay at the base of my bulla Fireplace and comfortable beds, fully equipped kitchen. Minor comment that from description photos it seems there’s a backyard but it’s the front yard with a steep slant We really enjoyed our stay, recommended!

Winter Wonderland
The home cradled in the Mt Buller valley sets an idyllic getaway. The all timber floors and fireplace adds to the coziness of a home away from home feel.

Cosy stay
Nice older property with cosy feel. Had all the essentials needed. Loved the bush outlook and were able to hand feed the local birds. Well positioned half way between Bullar and Mansfield.

A mixed bag
Firstly on the positive side, merrijig is a beautiful little community settled in the hills around mt Buller. The house is big and spacious and includes a deck which is great to sit out and enjoy. We loved sitting around the big table and sharing the central space together. We were also very happy with the responsiveness of the hosts. Unfortunately we were quite disappointed with some other aspects of the stay which we think it best to include in our review to give the full picture. The house felt like it hadn't been cleaned well recently, the couches were broken in many places, the furniture, doors and windows needed the work of a handyman and we're likely to fall off, be jammed or otherwise surprise you. The vacuum cleaner was quite underpowered and really needed to be replaced. The decking for all its glory also needed some love with the paint and wood showing its age, the little table outside is really hard rubbish material. Overall I feel it's a house with so much potential, settled in a beautiful location. It just needs a bit work done to restore it to its former glory.
