About this property

Dog-friendly Cozy Cabin With Mountain View & Fire Pit

You'll love our very secluded cabin with a great view and rustic touches. Beautiful drives on curvy mountain roads lead to the quaint mountain towns of Highlands and Cashiers. Enjoy a completely private, incredibly quiet and recently-renovated cozy cabin overlooking Black Mountain. It sleeps max 4 with 2 queen bedrooms. You'll have your choice of several outdoor spaces, including a large deck with Adirondack chairs to enjoy the mountain view, an outdoor eating area, a covered porch with rustic rockers to enjoy the sound of the rain and a separate tin-roof deck with a hanging day bed for a relaxing afternoon. You'll feel whisked away to two different worlds, depending on the direction that you look while swaying in the bed. You can bring yourself to the deep forest or imagine hiking the mountains. The tin-roof deck also comes with full-size propane and charcoal grills. Adirondack chairs surround the fire pit, in the natural setting of the woods. You will be minutes away from a natural sliding rock, hiking trails, shopping, golf courses, lakes and many wonderful restaurants. Dogs are welcome anytime (max 2, NTE 50 lbs each or contact us to discuss), and if interested/needed, we store two collapsible kennels. Locking gates are on each end of the deck to confine small kids or pets. The cabin comes equipped with a fully stocked kitchen, sheets, bedding, towels, and a hair dryer. We have Internet, a smart DVD player and a Google Chromecast to steam your favorite shows. Finally, there's a newly-built laundry shed for guest use.

The first and last third parts of the driveway to get to the property are a little steep, but all type of cars and trucks make it up just fine, including small 4-door sedans. If you drive SLOWLY (5mph), it won't be a problem at all. The driveway is naturally and purposely bumpy. We keep it maintained but due to the heavy rainfall, in between maintenance, it can get quite bumpy. Also, there are culverts placed in various spots to divert the water down the hill.

Critters clause: although it's rare to see any bugs in the house (as we get regular treatments through Terminix and TruTech Wildlife), it's possible. This is a mountain cabin and we are surrounded by all kinds of critters outside, such as bugs, spiders, mice, snakes, racoons or even bears.

Although we have instant booking activated, you are renting our home so be sure to include a message so I may get to know you a little better. Please give me the basics, such as where you're traveling from, if you've been to Highlands before, and any questions you may have.

Be sure to tag your photos from your visit with #wagglybuttsandbears 😊

Security cameras with sound are on site, outside only. Tampering with cameras or wifi equipment may result in immediate cancellation of reservation.

Great Cabin in the NC Mountains
We loved the seclusion of this cozy comfy cabin. The view of the mountain was spectacular. We spent late afternoons in the sun on the deck. The proximity to Highlands, Cashiers and many waterfall hikes was perfect. The cabin itself was spotless, thoughtfully stocked and decorated. The driveway was fun and not a big deal. We had our Pilot but the Honda Accord would have been just fine. Thanks for sharing your place Jennifer!

Mountain Getaway
My husband, son (10), daughter (8), and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay... it was exactly what we hoped for, a beautiful secluded cabin with amazing views. It was perfect for our family and our kids loved running around and exploring outside. We couldn't have asked for better accommodations and the views in the mornings and evenings were spectacular. Will definitely be coming back for repeat visits!

Brandon and I are Air Force Veterans, so after being stationed in eastern Carolina and falling in love with the state, we decided to retire in Charlotte. Brandon is a pilot and I'm a financial analyst. We absolutely love North Carolina for everything it offers--the small towns, the ocean and lakes, the cities, and of course the best part...the stunning, peaceful mountains. We have two very spoiled dogs, both rescues, named Kenzie and Lexi.

Why they chose this property

I'm from Michigan and Brandon is from Tennessee, so we've spent considerable time in the woods. We both adore spending time in nature, just enjoying it's beauty. We were married in Highlands and completely fell in love with the area. We had always talked about buying a cabin and decided to just go for it. We were fortunate enough to find a gem of a spot, bought it and renovated it. It is truly my favorite place to spend time and enjoy the beautiful views. It's so quiet, peaceful and wonderful.

What makes this property unique

This little cabin was only 500 square feet when we found it. It needed a lot of work and had been passed up many times by several potential buyers. I was stunned when I saw the property and we could see the potential this great little spot had to offer. After purchase, we immediately hired a contractor and began renovation to expand it by 250 feet and built a beautiful deck to enjoy the stunning views. We recently added a brand new laundry shed and a fire pit below the deck.
