Beautifil house on the lake
The house and property were very nice. The house had everything and was very nice. The only disappointing thing was the abundance of grass in the lake and around the dock. Great for boating, but not good for swimming.

Everything, always, perfect.
We have stayed here for a few years now and everything is always perfect. Had a little trouble with a couple things but Karen is always so responsive and we had another wonderful stay. We walk the neighborhood every morning. The neighbors are always friendly. The perfect place to relax. The kitchen has everything you could ever need to prepare any meal.

Great place to stay
We enjoyed a girls' getaway for a long weekend! We had originally planned a fall trip to see the colors, but some friends had a covid scare and Karen was very flexible and accommodating!! We enjoyed some time in Stillwater, but otherwise we just relaxed around the house taking in the beauty of the winter wonderland! Lots of time was spent around the fireplace! Some of us tried snowshoeing for the first time which was an experience :) The house was well stocked, clean, and felt like home (instead of a rental). We would definitely recommend!!

Host thought of everything
Very cozy conversational living area with a nice warm fireplace! Photos online do not begin to give a feel for how lovely and functional this place is. We had big plans for snowshoeing but we were too comfy to move...lots of thoughtful touches throughout, extra paper products (kleenex-next-to-the bed kind of host), adorable holiday themed placemats and tasteful decor, enough place settings to feed a crowd (there's even a fold up banquet table and chairs helpfully stashed in a closet). Look for the book in the games cabinet that details how the owners renovated the cabin - fascinating and made us feel like old friends instead of renters. We were supposed to meet our best friends there to celebrate New Year's weekend but they had a Covid scare, ended up being just me and my husband. We thought we might get bored but it was incredibly relaxing and beautiful on the frozen lake. We will definitely try a repeat visit next winter!

My husband and I met and married in Southern MN. He came from Southern Ohio to play football and I came from Forest Lake to compete in gymnastics. In 1980 we headed to Northern Colorado to start our life together. Our two oldest children were born in Colorado. Then returned to are Alma Mater to obtain a Master's Degree. After graduating, my husband landed a job in Virginia. Shortly after arriving in Virginia our third child was born. We have fond memories of our time spent in Virginia, however the mountains were calling us back. In the summer of 1989 we moved back to Colorado and spent the next 24 years raising our family in Frisco, CO. Our son was involved in football and alpine skiing, our middle daughter played volleyball, hockey and tennis, our youngest daughter focused on volleyball playing both club and high school. As a family we enjoy many activities such as: alpine and nordic skiing, hiking, biking, hut trips, and rafting. We have been lucky enough to get private permits for many rivers in the western United States. Our last grand adventure was in 2014 when we drew a 14 day permit for the Grand Canyon. My husband semi-retired in 2010. In 2013 we remodeled the cabin and in the summer of 2013 we moved to MN full time.

Why they chose this property

In 1938 my father's summer job was helping a local builder build log cabins on a property called Shady Land Point. He actually help build the fireplace in our cabin as a senior in high school. My father owned a small business on one of the chain lakes so I have fond memories of driving him to work in the morning by boat. Many times we would tow the sailboat with us then he would sail home, often getting home in the moonlight (much to my mother's consternation).

My parents loved this place, even with the crooked tree. My siblings children and our children used to be able to climb and hang from the section that is now on the ground. At one point the tree made a perfect frame for the lake from our deck.

My parents passed in 2003 so the house was passed on to my siblings and I to be used as a retreat. In 2011, my husband and I had an opportunity to buy the remaining siblings out. We gutted the place down to the studs and the remodel was completed in the summer of 2013.

What makes this property unique

Charming, peaceful, special, all words my friends would use to describe the cabin before the remodel. Many of them knew my parents and how much they loved this spot. Our goal during the remodel was to build something that would last for our children and their families to enjoy. We wanted to keep the cozy charm. The den is all original pine and my husband built the barn door using the original pine. The kitchen island is wrapped in original pine. I tried to incorporate the old with the new the best that I could. The mirror in the hallway is made from one of the original windows. When my parents moved in they replaced all of the windows except for the down stairs bathroom and laundry room, so we were able to save them when we replaced all the windows during our remodel. My favorite thing to do in the morning is to sit in bed with a cup of coffee and read and enjoy the lake view. In the summer you can hear the loons calling and I can not count the number of different birds that parade past on any given day. While raising my family in Colorado I would call my parents to check in and my favorite thing to hear when I asked "What are you doing?," was "We are looking at the lake." It was said with such joy that it would melt my heart. I knew it meant more than just looking at a lake, it meant that they were in their element and happy. We hope that you will experience similar feelings. So, please enjoy your time at "Innsjo Hytte " and at the end of the day, after all of the fun is done, just enjoy looking at the lake!
