Both bedrooms have their own bathrooms. The Hawaiian style and comfortable furnishings are perfect for a small family, two couples, friends, or a romantic getaway. Two big-screen TVs and wifi mean the whole family can relax and watch their favorite programs and stay caught up with social media. A welcome gift of some tasty treats from around the islands and cold bottled water in the refrigerator await your arrival. Your hosts Bill and Kathy can help you with any questions, recommendations, directions or needs you might have during your stay with us. located at over 3000 feet elevation- you will enjoy evening tropical breezes and tranquil, cooler temperatures, but still, be just a short drive to get to world-famous beaches.

In the bathrooms, you will find quick dry bath towels and toiletries you may use during your stay including shampoo and conditioner, lotion, sunscreen, Q-tips, cotton balls, after sun aloe, and other necessities.

The Whale/Ocean theme continues in the bedrooms. The Master bedroom has a Queen sized bed and a flat-screen TV with an attached bathroom. The second bedroom is cozy and comfortable with a double bed. This bedroom is like its own suite with sliding privacy doors, a bathroom and washer and drier just outside the sleeping area. Boogie Boards, beach chairs, snorkel gear, and a cooler are available for your use while you stay.

The kitchen has all high-end appliances and is equipped with everything you could need to stay in and BBQ or create your own gourmet meal including oven, microwave, coffee pot, and quiet dishwasher. The living room has an electric fireplace for the occasional cool evenings and mornings. We hope you will enjoy the attention to detail and our attempt to make your stay comfortable and relaxing.

Midway between Hilo and Kona, Honu Hale is conveniently located close to waterfalls, beaches, zip-lining, golfing, and hiking. A day trip to Volcano National park is a once in a lifetime adventure, and Waimea is a great starting point. Tour Parker Ranch located right in Waimea. It is the largest cattle ranch in the country. Waipio Valley is just a 15-minute drive away and boasts stunning views, and a private beach bottom on the hike. Waimea is Paniolo country (Hawaiian cowboys), and is a perfect place to do some horseback riding, or if you are visiting during the 4th of July, the Parker Ranch Rodeo is a must! Don't forget to stop at one of the three farmers' markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays to pick up locally grown produce, and hand made local items and souvenirs!

Mahalo & Aloha, We hope to see you soon, and you will enjoy your relaxing stay so much you will return for years to come.

The great things about the home included: laundry, beach gear, internet speed, storage, towels and the place was bigger than expected. The kitchen had almost everything needed. As a tea drinker a kettle would have been lovely and the can opener needs to be replaced. There were, unfortunately, a number of things that made our stay uncomfortable. The ice maker did not work and made a significant noise when turned on. The lights over the stove did not work which made cooking in the evenings more challenging. The gas burners on the left side of the stove often took a minute to ignite. We understood there would likely be a musty smell and were pleased it was mostly contained to the stairwell. The dehumidifier certainly worked but was quite loud. An additional blanket or two would have been appreciated. Flashlights could be provided in the unit for power outages. The biggest struggle for us, as you were aware, was the smell in the large bathroom. We appreciated you coming out in our first week to deal with it. Thankfully, the sewer smell became mostly contained to the bathroom. As we let you know the smell was continuing, we did have an expectation you would deal with it further. The roof leak is a concern and we hope it can be addressed. We were glad we could deal with the smoke alarm going off in the unit below us. If it had continued we could not have stayed. We hope you can find an in town contact to deal with future issues quickly.

Great Waimea Stay
Great location near Waimea. Quiet at night. Gets hot during the day but we were out during the day and it cools off in the evening nicely. Mornings were comfortably cool. All the kitchen gear is here for making meals . Contact with Kathy was helpful and right away she helped me with the access instructions. Worked well for us with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The stairs were mentioned in the listing so we expected them. Taking suitcases up and down only took a moment. Wish I’d booked this one for a few days longer. Great place to come back to at the end of a day full of fun.

Great Ohana
We were visiting family that lives around the corner and this apartment was perfect for us to spread out and have our own space. It is a very well maintained property. We will definitely be back! Thank you!

About the host

Host profile image
The McKenzie Family lives on Oahu, and makes frequent trips to the big island to visit family and attend surf contests with their 11 and 14 year old children. Robyn's parents Bill and Kathy are your hosts are available to answer any questions you may have, give recommendations or help in anyway you need.

Why they chose this property

While visiting family on the Big Island we fell in love with Waimea. Waimea offers a slower paced lifestyle, and has excellent restaurants, great shopping, and is right in the middle of so many attractions on the island. We love the cooler weather, opposite of the stifling heat we experienced in Kona.

What makes this property unique

Kohola Hale has everything you could need to settle in for a great vacation. If you enjoy the beach, you will appreciate the boogie boards, beach chairs, beach towels, snorkel gear, and cooler that are there to use during your stay. If you like to eat in, there is a great BBQ, and all the kitchen utensils you could need. We enjoy coming and staying here too! We have furnished the unit with everything we like to have when traveling, so you get to enjoy those things too.
