Moving to Huntsville, and need a home while you look for your forever home? Renovating your home, and don’t want to live in an apartment or try to live in a construction zone? Just want a place to stay for a weekend, a month or more? This sweet cottage, built in the 1920s by members of the CCC, is the perfect solution if you need a fully furnished home. No detail has been spared, with heavenly beds and linens, beautiful vintage china, silver accents, hand painted furnishings, gorgeous art, lush oriental carpets on hardwood floors, and the most beautiful screened porch for enjoying magical mountain mornings and evenings. The large yard is full of seasonal flowers, old trees with beautiful fall foliage, and is surrounded by a low handcrafted stone wall. Very private, with lots of room for you and your family. There is nothing like it anywhere else in Huntsville.
Fiber warp speed internet, tv, lawn service, and the first $200 on utilities included in monthly rental.

Short stay for volleyball tournament
My daughter & I stayed here while she played a volleyball tournament. The house has everything we needed to cook & relax before she played. We had beautiful views out of the back windows overlooking the city below! So quiet & peaceful! Seemless check in & check out. Owners are responsive but unobtrusive.

Felt like home!
This warm and cozy bungalow was perfect for our visit over Thanksgiving week. My 7 year old son had so much fun playing outside in the leaves! My wife and I loved drinking coffee in the kitchen and baking cinnamon bread. It really started to feel like home to us. The owner was kind and communicated well. We really hope to visit again!

Magic on the Mountain
This adorable cottage house was a perfect place to gather. The kitchen was fully loaded with ball we needed to cook delicious meals and enjoy them in the dinning room. The front screened in porch was so peaceful to drink morning coffee and read and then we hit the hiking trails which were within a very short walking distance. The back deck overlooked a yard with chipmunks, does and birdwatching. And a very nice laundry room to that before retuning home all the laundry was already done. Lisa was so sweet and stopped by to see if we needed anything. Truly a magical place to stay. Placemats and candles as well as actual China to eat off of made this place feel like we owned the place! It is even better than the pictures!

Perfect Hideaway for Newlyweds
We rented this cottage as a wedding present for newlyweds who were coming into town for a visit. They loved the location, next to nature; the little touches that made the cottage memorable; and the ease checking in and checking out. It is nicely appointed and perfect for a special weekend. Lisa was super to work with in helping arrange this for our friends. Will definitely stay again!

Lisa and Fred Ordway grew up in Huntsville, have lived overseas in New Zealand, and moved back to Huntsville and Monte Sano in 1996 to raise their family. Fred is a wine rep for a Chilian vineyard, and Lisa is the costume designer for Huntsville Ballet Company. We live just down the street!

Why they chose this property

We bought this little house because we loved it, and wanted to share it with families who need a special place to stay and live a normal life when they can’t live in their own home for a period of time. It is also a perfect house to one day retire to, and a great place for us to put family when they are visiting.

What makes this property unique

There are so many things you will love about this little cottage. Swinging on the front porch, the sound of a real, old screen door slamming behind you, fireflies in the garden on a summer night or pumpkins on the stone wall in the fall. Enjoy the beauty of Monte Sano, all the while only minutes to downtown. This home is a true treasure, built in the 1920s by members of the CCC while building Monte Sano State Park. You will not want to leave!
