About this property

Couple’s Getaway—Vintage 1920's Lake Front Cottage on Lake Hortonia in Vermont

If you're looking for a couple’s getaway, consider our vintage 1920's lake-front cottage, located on beautiful Lake Hortonia in Sudbury Vermont. The cottage is located on a private dead end drive, with only 6 other cottages, and provides you with 90' of private lake frontage, right out your back door. A private dock is all yours for swimming, fishing, or just enjoying the sun. 2 kayaks and paddles are available for renters exclusive use. The cottage is exceptionally clean, suitable for 2 adults, and has been furnished with a brand new bed frame, mattress, and box spring. Just bring your own sheets and towels. The first floor consists of a living room, a very well equipped kitchen, small dining room, screened porch for morning coffee and tea, or that evening wine or cocktail. A lake facing dine-on deck is just off of the dining room, as-is a small half bath. A shared association shower house is located just steps from the house. The second floor has a bedroom with a double bed and a game/reading room but the stairs are quite steep—and could be challenging for a guest with mobility issues. This is a quiet place to unwind and includes plenty of vintage board games, good books, and lake fun, to reconnect with your friend or your partner. Wifi is provided. Easy day trips to Burlington and Shelburne, 30 minutes to Middlebury, and only 15-20 minutes to Brandon, Castleton, and Poultney. July and August are week-long rentals from Saturday to Saturday. Shorter stays are available in June and September with a minimum of 4 nights. 50% deposit due when booking, and the remaining balance due within 2 weeks or your stay. Sorry, no pets or smoking. Thanks for your interest in our cottage..!!!

A Wonderful Lakeside Cabin in Vermont
We had a lovely vacation stay at the cabin; a relaxed secluded feel with the ability to take day trips to surrounding areas in Vermont. The cabin itself is very nice and very well maintained by the owners.

A wonderful home on a beautiful lake
We really enjoyed our early-fall stay at Mark's and Melissa's cottage. Not only is it a beautiful location right on the lake, it is also very obvious how much effort, time, and energy the two must have invested into their place to make it as lovely as it is. With nature, kayaks, and fishing right at our feet (and we didn't even get to explore much beyond because this kept us so busy - or rather, relaxed), we could have easily spent another week or two there. Thanks so much, Mark and Melissa, for sharing your second home!

Perfect Getaway
We loved our stay at The Boathouse! The house is very cozy and has everything you need to make yourselves at home, and the private dock is a dream. The house and location allowed us to have the perfect mix of activities and relaxation time. We didn't know that we needed to bring our own linens before we left our house, and Mark and Melissa were able to leave some behind for us which was very appreciated. We already want to go back!

We are owners who rented next door for many years, before deciding to purchase our own cottage when the opportunity arose, so we could enjoy it more frequently. There is something really special about this place that you will notice right away, as we did several years ago. We are available by cell phone before and during your stay in case you have any questions. We will provide you with an information sheet as well and you will find that we are easy to work with and we try to be very accommodating to our guests.

Why they chose this property

As if the lake isn't enough, there are plenty of great attractions in the area, such as the Ben and Jerry's Factory, Shelburne Museum, the VT Teddy Bear Factory, Middlebury College, American Flatbread, Fort Ticonderoga and the Hubbardton Battlefield, and the Otter Creek Brewing Company, just to name a few.

What makes this property unique

The lake view is amazing. I don't think you will find a home closer to the water than this one. You can hear the water lapping up against the shore stones at night. The cottage is set off of the main road, on a very private peninsula with only 6 other small cottages that are only used from time-to-time. You'll love the location and the vintage look and feel of the home. It's like stepping back in time......
