About this property

The Beach Break-Walk to the Ocean on West Oak Island

Come enjoy a quiet Oak Island vacation at this mid-century modern beach house. Perfect location for families with walkable, low traffic access to the beach. The public beach and sound boat access points are a little over 500 feet from the house. Relax and listen to the ocean from the front porch of this third-row house. The west end of the island is primarily residential houses with only a few small condos mixed in. Historic Southport and Wilmington are nearby (25 min and 40 min respectively) with a little over an hour drive to Myrtle Beach.

Article on Oak Island:

The house was purchased in the summer of 2017 and is ready to rent now. I will be updating the decor over time with pictures to reflect changes. The existing carpet in the pictures has been replaced with vinyl plank flooring.

Linens/towels are provided and included in the cleaning fee.

Close to the beach
Home was close to the beach. Nice porch, but no shade. Definitely needs updates, but was clean and nice location.

Short walk
We timed it. Literally a 3 and half minute walk to the beach. It is an older home but had everything we needed. The keypad lock was a little tricky...not a fan. Bonus:. Hulu on tv..back deck and front deck.

The location and layout of the home was perfect. Plenty of linens and extra blankets for everyone. Love the 70s decor, so super cute. Plenty of kitchen stuff, beach toys and chairs for everyone. Also it was really nice that all the basics were stocked for our whole stay. We will definitely be returning to this property!

Quiet Escape
The house was clean and well stocked with basics. A 5 min walk to the ocean or a boat launch in the inter coastal. We visited with our 2 young kids (3&5) for a spring getaway. Plenty of beach gear at the house and lots of room to spread out during the visit. Owner was responsive and had done a lot of work on the property.

About the host

Hosted by David Laughlin

Host profile image
I have lived in Asheville since 2000 and started visiting Oak Island around that time.

Why they chose this property

I am a mid-century modern fan and wanted a place with an older beach house feel. The walk-able uncrowded beach, sound access, lack of traffic, and laid-back feel of the west end of the island were an added bonus.

What makes this property unique

Access to both the beach and sound within walking distance.
