About this property

Traditional Catalan villa (3 bedrooms, 6 persons) Domaine des Albères

Traditional Catalan villa (3 bedrooms, 6 persons)
“Domaine des Albères” in Laroque des Albères (66)
From 500 Euros per week
7 nights minimum
In a natural site offering a unique panorama (view over the Mediterranee and the Albera mountain), this family house with a large private garden, will allow you to relax while enjoying the pool, the tennis court, the table tennis of the Estate and the beautiful hikes in the Albera mountain (departure/ back to the house). You will have access in less than 20 minutes to the stunning beaches of Argeles-sur-Mer, Le Racou, Collioure and to Barcelona 2 hours away. The Roussillon is the sunniest region of France, offering plenty of season fruits and of course traditional Catalan cuisine. A unique place that you will not forget, where you can enjoy the tranquillity of the hinterlands while being very close to the beaches.

The house is located in the most Southern part of France (the Pyrenees-Orientales, department 66) in the Languedoc Roussillon region.
The Pyrenees-Orientales are at the frontier with the department of Aude to the North and to the South, Spain-Catalonia (Barcelona) and the principality of Andorra to the West.

The Spanish Catalan has had a powerful influence on the Languedoc Roussillon region for the last centuries, with especially the red and yellow colours of the flag, the signalling both in French and Catalan, the culinary style, etc.
Living in and visiting this region is like enjoying 2 countries at the same time.

Laroque des Albères / Domaine des Albères
Laroque-des-Albères (La Roca De Albera in Catalan) is an ancient and charming village only few minutes away from the house by car. You can go there by foot, by car or by the mountains' paths. Easy to recognize from far with its Cathar castle located in the village heights.
Like all the traditional villages of the region, Laroque offers you good restaurants such as 'Le Cafe des Artistes', where you can benefit from a good value for money, for a dinner on a shaded terrace.

In Laroque, you will find all kinds of shops (bakery, butcher, pharmacy, tobacco/newspaper kiosk and a grocery store). The tobacco/newspapers kiosk is owned by lovely persons that will make you some space to connect your computer in Wi-Fi.

In terms of logistics, it is easy to find all year long flight tickets/trains at a good price (1 hour flight from Paris or 4 hours by train-TGV from Paris) and to rent a car to get back to the house but the most important, to visit the region. You are 2 hours away from Barcelona, only 1 hour away from Girona and 30 minutes away from the picturesque town centre of Perpignan.

Beautiful house in beautiful location.
The house is a lovely place to base yourself and has everything you need for a family get away, Mr Marco was really helpful and easy to deal with in the lead up to our holiday, and the local housekeepers were really warm and welcoming. We loved sitting out on the balcony eating breakfast while the the sun rose up over the Mediterranean, or sitting out in the evening and listening to the radio or just enjoying the complete peace and quiet while sipping a local wine. The swimming pool is great for lazing around, although it's a fair walk especially the up hill return. There are plenty of beautiful villages and mountains to explore nearby. All in all we had a lovely time, in a beautiful home and would definitely recommend.

Stunning views, very quiet and peaceful
The house is excellent and more impressive than the initial photograph shows. Having meals looking out over the stunning views was fantastic. Garden is beautiful. The accommodation worked very well for us with 3 children under ten. The community pool was well looked after, clean and a great source of fun. You could spend many hours there. The access to the tennis court was also a nice touch. Definitely recommend. One top tip, watch out for the speed camera on the way to the village from the motorway.
