3 Eskbank Terrace is our family home and we've been refurbishing it since we bought it in 2015. We were attracted by the spacious bedrooms, the potential it had and the beauty of it's location being so close to Edinburgh yet also close to beaches, golf courses, great cycling & walking routes as well as shopping at either Fort Kinnaird or Straiton retail parks.
We love the views across the Lothians and the ease of access to beautiful countryside, historic houses, great sport facilities such as the Links golf courses, the World Class Edinburgh Climbing Arena at Ratho, the outdoor All weather ski slopes, the numerous beaches as well ease and convenience of shops, transport and peacefulness when we want it!
We were an army family that had spent time in the Middle East and Germany so it was fabulous to set down roots & renovate this charming Victorian Scottish house bringing it into the 21st century. We've worked hard to maintain it's character & have revealed some original features that were that were covered up during the 1970's. We've loved restoring it and revealing beautiful architectural features as well as adding modern touches such as the large kitchen / dining area with island unit, large gas hob and double fan oven as well as adding a modern shower room on the top floor and creating a large patio area to enjoy al fresco meals and time in the garden.
We welcome families to the house to enjoy time in Scotland. The area has an array of things to do and is also a lovely place to relax.
Once the house is booked we provide you with plenty of details of where to go, what to do and how to get there so you can decide how busy or relaxed you'd like your stay to be. We're also here to answer any questions you have and help provide what you need to ensure your holiday is one of the best!

Why they chose this property

We felt this house was perfect for a large family with scope to entertain friends and family too. My husband is half Scottish and there was a great attraction to be close to the charming Gothic city of Edinburgh which feels so welcoming and intimate. It feels safe for children as there are great transport links and it offered us the opportunity to have dynamic culture on our doorstep. We love to visit the north of Scotland too and this is very easy via the M8.

What makes this property unique

The house has charming features and plenty of space for everyone to be alone or together. Expanding the ground floor space has provided a large, light kitchen/dining relaxing space sympathetic to the Victorian character but offering a modern way of living. We were able to bring the outside in to enjoy the garden more from the open plan space and the beautiful bay windows offer expansive views too! Far reaching views of the Lothians from upstairs adds to it's charm.
There's onsite parking for 2 cars and a bus stop just 2 mins walk from the house with the No.3 bus into Edinburgh every 10 minutes offering peace of mind for travelling into town. Being able to walk/cycle to a supermarket is a great benefit and the town of Dalkeith offers all those modern conveniences such as dry cleaning, post office and supermarket. On the doorstep is the beautiful Dalkeith Country Park owned by the Duke of Buccleuch, perfect for a stroll or even some unique shopping at Restoration Yard. There's also a fitness & well being centre there!
