Superbly spacious apartment with everything you need for an enjoyable stay in historic Harwich. Location is excellent, being only a short distance from the Ha'Penny Pier, The Pier restaurant and all the cute little pubs. The apartment was a bit cold as all the electric heaters were only set on 18 degrees and it took hours to get warm because of the high ceilings but we got nice & cosy eventually. The heaters were new and the decor hadn't been made good where the old storage heaters came out but no doubt this is a work in progress and will soon be sorted. Also, they were supplied by trailing extension leads rather than wired in but again I expect this is temporary. It's a shame that the architectural splendour of the front facade of the building isn't matched in the interior which has a "faded glory" feel about it with ripped carpets and plastic flowers. We were worried also about the apartment's sash windows which were rotten on the outside and we feared the window cleaning contractors who came during our stay might knock bits off with their long poles. However, none of these things affected our wedding anniversary break that was most enjoyable in this well equipped roomy apartment.
Spacious, well-equipped flat in a good location. Just a few mishaps - the TV reception kept going off, several pictures fell off the wall and the morning we were leaving the water had gone off. Otherwise a very enjoyable, comfortable stay.

Why they chose this property
Just look at the pictures! It's a fabulous building with a great history from the Great Eastern Railway Hotel to being a military hospital in both world wars. Step out and you're on the halfpenny pier. Wonderful calm and picturesque area.
What makes this property unique
It's wonderful being in this fabulous iconic building right on the pier. Perfect as a base for touring the area, including taking ferries out to the Holland. Lots of local festivals, military and naval history, restaurants and pubs. Lovely calm quiet seaside walks.
