About this property

TRADITIONAL STYLE COTTAGE WITH STUNNING VIEWS

Quality stone Character Cottage. Part of traditional farm courtyard adjoining Grade 11* Listed Medieval Cruck Hall-House (now used as a Barn). Set in elevated position within a 20 acre farm of pasture and woodland, with stunning views over Vale of Clwyd and Clwydian Range. Wealth of old oak trees and wildlife on the doorstep. Lime-washed stone walls preserved externally and internally, original oak and slate features blended with character oak flooring, window cills and doors in open plan Living room/dining area. Cosy traditional charm with modern comforts and amenities. Quality beds and bedding. Geothermal Heat Pump for cosseting heat and constant hot water. Private fenced garden. Peaceful location yet only 2 miles from Ruthin with amenities. Excellent road network. Centrally located for Snowdonia and the landscape and historic sites of the Borderlands (including Chester and Llangollen) to the east.

The Cottage : 18th century stone cart-house/Granary conversion, using mainly traditional lime, slate and oak. Well-equipped with modern conveniences. The beds are of quality repro cast iron type, mattresses pocket-sprung with memory foam for comfort. The furniture is mainly antique pine. Quality fabrics throughout. Traditional character yet cosy with modern comforts. Well-equipped modern kitchen, soft carpeting upstairs, exposed original oak truss in bedrooms. Two bathrooms - traditional with roll-top 'slipper' bath, shower room downstairs, both with toiletries provided. A snug/Library downstairs has a sofa bed, as well as comprehensive literature on what to see and do in the area, with guidebooks, maps and books of general interest. The open-plan living/dining area has a host of original oak beams with wood burning stove in its own inglenook for added luxury. Dramatic views into wooded valley at rear of cottage. Private Garden is well fenced, spacious, with pretty flowers and cast-iron furniture.

We have now installed a 4G Mesh wi-fi system so that all parts of Cottage should now be able to access the high-speed Internet. This is a free facility for Guests. Download speeds of up to 90 mbps have been obtained, but this depends upon prevailing weather conditions and number of devices connected. Real world speeds tend to be in the range 40 to 60 mbps. This contrasts with the 5 mbps we used to get from the copper wires!

Location: Quiet unspoilt location overlooking steep wooded river valley with panoramic views over the Vale of Clwyd and Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The cottage is located within 20 acres of pasture and woodland, with many ancient Oaks. No near neighbours/main roads (about 1/4 mile from minor road). Property provides easy access to network of footpaths into the surrounding hills, valleys and woods. River Clywedog below the Cottage offers an attractive riverside walk into the Vale of Clwyd. Great countryside for walkers, cyclists/mountain-bikers, photographers, artists, wildlife lovers, and those who just want to unwind. Only 2 miles from town of Ruthin with all its amenities, including fine Restaurants, pubs and shops, and supermarkets for that big shop! Confrontation at Ruthin provided the spark for the great rebellion of Owain Glyndwr against the English Crown in 1400. The town has a fine legacy of medieval timber-framed buildings. Good Highway connections nationally.

The Area : The Welsh/English Borderlands is steeped in Medieval History and famed for its classic landscape. From the Clwydian Range of Mountains with its stunning far-reaching views towards Snowdonia, the coast and North West England, to the adjacent Vale of Clwyd with its lush pastures and woodland and the wild area of Mynydd Hiraethog with its lakes, forests, wooded valleys and rivers, there is something here for everyone. Most outdoor pursuits catered for. Walkers, cyclists/mountain-bikers, photographers and wildlife enthusiasts have a vast unspoilt area to explore with a comprehensive network of footpaths, bridleways and trails to choose from. History and culture enthusiasts will find a higher concentration of Medieval Castles than anywhere else in the world, fine historic houses, and historic towns such as Ruthin, Denbigh, Conwy, Chester and Llangollen. Snowdonia is an hour away, the coast about 30 minutes, Liverpool 1 hour and Chester 40 minutes. Quality shopping in Chester and Liverpool.

Our stay in Wales
We had such a lovely time at Helen and Tony's place! Both of them were very welcoming to their rental and offered great suggestions for things to do in the area. Their rental was exactly as listed and we enjoyed the spaceous setup with our group of 4 adults and little one (under 2 years). She very much enjoyed listening to the sheep and seeing all the horses that were near by as well as all the things to explore nearby. We will definitely look to come back if we happen to be in the area again. Thank you so much!

Very relaxing break
Tony and Helen made us very welcome. Everything was made very easy to have a relaxing stay. The cottage is very well equipped and warm and cosy. Storm Babet meant the weather was especially wet, but this did not spoil the stay. Thank you.

Tranquil retreat
We just loved this cottage, spotless and well equipped for our stay in North Wales. Beautiful location lovely views, wished I had bought my binoculars, as we could hear the cry of birds of prey over the forest but too far away to see them clearly. Lovely walk along Lady Bagots Drive. The dog loved paddling in the river just below the foot bridge. Watch out for roaming pigs in the forest and friendly sheep in the field that come running to greet you. Great as a base to explore the area to be honest a week wasn’t long enough, so we hope to return soon. Helen and Tony are top notch hosts. So helpful and gave us pointers of what to see. The beds were really comfortable, no tossing and turning here for me with my dodgy hips!! Just a good nights sleep. If you want peace and tranquility this place could be for you. We have returned home much refreshed. Thank you.

Beautiful cottage
Great two story cottage on a farm with sheep and horses. Loved the picket fenced backyard and the views of the valley. Easy access to the more dramatic mountains of Snowdonia and a great walk by the creek to town with a great pub or cafe.
