About this property

Charming 3 bedroom gite in a beautiful village on the River Lot

Our gîte is set within the flower filled courtyard of a Maison de Maitre in Albas, an old and beautiful village set high up on the banks of the Lot. The gîte was originally a barn so there are beams in the bedrooms and plenty of exposed stone walls to give the interior a warm and relaxed atmosphere. In addition to the courtyard there is a large, secluded, south facing garden with splendid views over the rooftops towards the river.

The entrance to the gîte is through the courtyard into a large kitchen/living area with tiled floors and plenty of exposed stone. The two large glass doors that form the entrance can be opened fully so that the courtyard becomes an extension of the living area. There is also a wood burner, perfect for when the weather turns cold. To the rear of this large room there are stairs leading up to a sitting room with two sofas, two chairs and a tv. Off the sitting room are the three bedrooms with exposed beams and stone walls, a separate toilet and a bathroom with separate shower.

• A large kitchen/living space with wood burner
• An upstairs sitting room.
• Two large double bedrooms (both with a double bed) and one smaller bedroom with twin beds.
• A bathroom with a full size bath and a shower.
• A toilet.
• Wifi & Freeview TV.

The gîte will comfortably sleep 6 people. Meals "al fresco" can be enjoyed in the courtyard or in the garden (using the chairs, tables and umbrellas stored in the garage) most of the time from June to September. There is also a barbecue. Amenities in the kitchen include a gas hob, electric oven, microwave, fridge-freezer and washing machine. The kitchen is equipped with all you are likely to need to cook the delicious produce you have bought in the local markets. Please note that access to the main house is also via the courtyard but the two properties are some distance apart and the area close to the gîte is screened off and for the exclusive use of guests. Guests also have use of the large garden which can be accessed via a number of steps from the courtyard.

Bedding (to include pillows, duvets, sheets, duvet covers, pillow slips etc. ) and towels for use in the house are provided.

In the summer the village offers three places to eat. The Guinguette d'Albas with views over the river offers casual dining with regular live music nights and DJ sets through the summer months. La Rose & Le Réséda is set in the medieval heart of the village where meals are eaten alfresco in good weather. The third is a bar in the village which provides meals in the summe r and where it is also possible to order bread. There is also Bonjour Epicerie where it is possible to buy groceries and a selection of fresh food. Finally the village has its own 'beach', where it is possible to swim in the river Lot.

Gorgeous place
Wonderful house full of character, with a sunny courtyard and garden for al fresco dining (though you'll need mosquito repellent!). Albas is an amazingly beautiful village perched high above the River Lot. There's a lovely swimming spot within walking distance. No boulangerie in the village, sadly, but there's a small epicerie and you can order bread for the next day from the bar in the square. Would definitely come back - thank you!

Tevreden
Mooie plaats, leuke woning met voldoende ruimte voor 4 personen. De woning rook wel naar vocht en naar ons idee naar een stofje waarmee de balken werden behandeld. Was indringend.

About the host

Hi, my name is Sue. For most of the year I live in the lovely town of Tunbridge Wells with my husband Lee. I grew up in Kent and my husband is from North Wales. We met through mutual friends and this year we will celebrate 21 years of marriage. I work in Finance for an online retailer and Lee is an IT Project Manager for a large insurance company. We have one son who is at university.

Why they chose this property

Having spent a number of holidays at various locations in France we came to the Lot department for the first time in 2015 and fell in love with the area. It's such a beautiful place, with it's medieval towns and villages, the vineyards (the autumn colours are spectacular) and the river winding through the limestone cliffs. We decided we wanted to buy a place of our own and were very lucky to find our house on the first buying trip. It had everything we wanted - traditional buildings, a flower filled courtyard, a large garden with views over the village and somewhere to rent out so that we could share this lovely area with other people.

What makes this property unique

La Grange still retains a certain rustic charm, with its original wooden beams and exposed stone work that seems to give a lovely golden glow in the afternoon sun. We love to open the large double doors to extend the living space into the courtyard in the warmer months. The large tree that sits in front of the barn provides a welcome spot of dappled shade in the summer, where you can sit and enjoy meals al fresco. One of our favourite things to do (particularly in the summer) is sit in the garden as dusk falls with a glass of wine, watching the swallows swop overhead. It's also in a great location, whether you are interested in culture, cuisine or simply to enjoy the nature of this wonderful region.
