Lou Marcelou is a beautiful village house in St Croix du Verdon, a typical provencal hilltop village in a stunning location overlooking Lac St Croix. This is the lower apartment and sleeps 2/4 .
This is a beautiful studio apartment for 2/4 people with large outside terrace. There are stunning lake views and it's positioned in the centre of the village with all shops and restaurants only a couple of minutes walk away.
The lake is beautiful for swimming and relaxing. It's only 5 minutes walk or a minute in the car away. There are beaches near the village with snack bars and boat hire. Or, if you prefer privacy, the lake is surrounded by secluded beaches which you can walk, drive or better still go by boat to.
Patio doors open into an open plan living room with a well equiped kitchen on one side and large sofa on the other (which converts into a large double bed).
At the rear of the apartment is a mezzanine level with a beautiful antique French Demi Corbeille bed and antique French bedside cabinets. There are built in wardrobes and cupboards providing plenty of storage.
Steps lead down under the mezzanine to a store area and generous size modern shower room.
Underneath the terrace is a large storeroom where there is a washing machine (shared with apartment one) and also space to store large items such as bikes etc.
St Croix Du Verdon is in the unspoilt heart of Provence which is characterised by deep valleys and snow capped mountains to the north and gentle undulating fields of lavender, vines and sunflowers in the south and west.
It is where the Haut Var meets the Alpes-d'Haute Provence and is known as 'Green Provence'. This area offers a very different pace of life to the more bustling south coast and it is characterised by forested mountains, vineyards, lavender fields and olive groves between beautiful ancient hilltop villages and small towns.
Nearby towns and villages such as Riez, Aups, and Forcalquier still thrive on their traditional industries of making honey, cheese, cultivating truffles and pressing olive oil.
Riez, only 10 min from St Croix has a wonderful street market on Wednesdays and Saturdays, two supermarkets and many lovely cafes, shops and restaurants.
The area is probably most famous for the 'Gorges du Verdon', one of Europe's biggest canyons. The gorge itself is at the head of the Lac and makes for a multitude of outdoor activities. There are awe inspiring roads, cycle routes and walks all around. For the more adventurous there is climbing and rafting. The Verdon river which formed the gorge runs into the Lac (Ste Croix) and then downstream there are further gorges and additional Lacs (Quinson, and Esparron) for further exploration.
