Please note:

This home was built in 1845. It has had a lot of updates all new furniture, is amazingly located and is fully functional but still has some historic home quirks. We call it character!

In the spirit of full disclosure, below are all of the known "quirks". Please review and keep them in mind when booking:

-The floors slope towards the center of the house a few degrees due to 170+ years of settling, but are safe and stable.

-The stairs leading upstairs to the bathroom and bedrooms are original to the house and a little steep by today's standards. Please keep this in mind if you have small children or if anyone in your party has mobility issues.

-When flushing the toilet, you may hear the air intake valve located behind the tub vibrating. It's just a one-way air admittance valve allowing air to enter the drain system and nothing to worry about.

-The inside of the antique claw foot tub has a few spots of discoloration in the enamel coating. We assure you it is not actually "dirty", and the tub is fully cleaned, scrubbed and sanitized with bleach before each stay.

-The outlet in the bathroom is only a 2-prong outlet so if you need to use a blow dryer, the bedrooms have suitable 3-prong outlets and full-length mirrors behind the doors.

-Some of the lights in the house operate by pull-chain or a switch directly on the wall sconce.

About Kevin Scanlon

I was born in Denver, CO, but grew up in and around Mystic, CT.

I spent over 6 years as an IT consultant in the pharmaceutical industry before switching to real estate. I'm a licensed agent, general contractor, landlord and hospitality manager (operating my vacation rental properties).

I enjoy traveling, fixing up old houses and spending as much time outdoors and on the water as possible.

Kevin Scanlon purchased this apartment in 2014

Why Kevin Scanlon chose Mystic

This apartment is located in a house right next door to another house me and my parents and I partnered up on to fix up in 2012 (VRBO listing #484513). When this property came up for sale by the out-of-state owner, I jumped at the opportunity to purchase and fix it up in order to share it with fellow travelers.

What makes this apartment unique

The views of the Mystic River from the front porch and the close vicinity to downtown Mystic restaurants and attractions make this rental an ideal place for a weekend getaway or an extended vacation. Dedicated off-street parking and easy access to the Mystic Amtrak station and I-95 make traveling to and from the location a breeze. Once you're parked you can easily walk everywhere in Downtown Mystic!

Great, great location!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Walker's Paradise just after the Thanksgiving Holiday in 2017. My husband lived in Mystic, so we visit often. Our favorite bar and restaurant is steps away. The space was exceptionally clean, well-appointed, roomy, quiet (for being on a somewhat busy road), and very classic. On the first floor, the floor is a little slanted but that is the charm of being in Mystic. We are planning to book with this host again, and again. Thanks for having a beautiful, clean, and homey place. See you in 2018!

Great location & adorable house!

  • 5 of 5

You can’t beat the location! I traveled with my dad and two kids (2 year old and 7 weeks old) we were extremely comfortable for our four day trip. You’re seconds from downtown and just a stones throw from the aquarium. The house was clean, welcoming, and just perfect. We will definitely visit again! Thank you Kevin!

Great location

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our 2 night stay at 20 Water St. The location made a walking tour of the town & seaport very easy. The beds are very comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked. The quirky slant of the floors is not subtle, lol. If you have vertigo, bring Dramamine. This is a charming old house with good view of the harbor. Easy parking. Kevin is easy to reach if you need anything.

House needs to be renovated

  • 2 of 5

House is need of renovation. Stairs are too dangerous. Every room , wall , door is sloped. Felt like we were perpetually drunk .

Location is convinent to walking the mystic shops and restaurants , But you need to be very tolerant of the old crooked house . Having access to the washer and dryer would have been a plus as well. A day bed in the desk area would be a better use of space

Owner's Response: I have to say I'm pretty disappointed in this traveler's decision to leave a poor review for things that are all CLEARLY disclosed ahead of time in the listing and have nothing to do with the finishes, furnishings, functionality and cleanliness of the property. Regarding access to the laundry facilities, all he had to do was ask and never did... Here's a verbatim excerpt from the description: "This home was built in 1845. It has had a lot of updates all new furniture, is amazingly located and is fully functional but still has some historic home quirks. We call it character! In the spirit of full disclosure, below are all of the known "quirks". Please review and keep them in mind when booking: -The floors slope towards the center of the house a few degrees due to 170+ years of settling, but are safe and stable. -The stairs leading upstairs to the bathroom and bedrooms are original to the house and a little steep by today's standards. Please keep this in mind if you have small children or if anyone in your party has mobility issues." Anyhow, we receive a lot of positive feedback from happy guests who appreciate the historic nature and quirkiness of the home. I'm left to assume that this renter simply did not read the listing and should not be renting historic properties. I ask future renters to take this negative review with a grain of salt and book with confidence that you will be comfortable and happy with this location.

Perfect location within walking distance to downtown Mystic.

  • 4 of 5

We needed a place to stay on quick notice and Kevin was a pleasure to work with. This place is full of charm and is older with original flooring, claw foot tub etc. which I personally love. If you want all modern amenities with granite countertops and high end appliances then this is not the place for you but if looking for a convenient, charming CLEAN place to stay, look no further. Beds were REALLY comfortable too with high quality sheets and duvet which is not the norm for a rental!
