The setting was peaceful and cottage spacious and comfortable. Nicely landscaped back yard. However, some disappointments. Contrary to the listing, the cottage is not a 10 minute drive to Ganges but 20 minutes, nor are food staples provided - basically whatever the previous person has left. No tea, coffee or offer of such basics. We were advised not to expect a continental breakfast as that was not happening until September due to a bylaw necessity. Also a note that asks guests to replace missing toilet paper, soap, paper towels. On request, toilet paper& paper towels were dropped off.
Bedding was uncomfortable - flat, pancake pillows and duvet covers not freshly washed. Although there were new barbeque utensils, the barbeque grill was rusted and not usable. There was no welcome or farewell message, in fact we did not meet the owners. More attention to detail would enhance the experience.
Lynda and Don,
I’m sorry to hear that you didn’t fully enjoy your time at our cottage! It should be noted that it was brought to your attention, via a direct email, in the weeks prior to your stay that although the listing was changed to imply that staple food items would be provided, this did not apply to bookings that were made BEFORE this was added to the website. Hence, why this only applied to bookings from September on.
In regards to supplies- we provide all guests with 2 rolls of toilet paper and 1 roll of paper towel. We are on a septic system, and an island that is conscious of waste production so we try to be mindful and not use products in excess. However, when you requested more toilet paper, paper towel, and Kleenex... they were provided for you.
We have never received a complaint (or dispute) about the time it takes to get to town. Rather, most guests enjoy being “away from it all”. But my apologies that it took you longer than expected to get into town.
I believe it’s important to note that I did come up to the cottage two separate times to try and meet you, but despite your car being there... no one answered when I knocked.
Lastly, we have never had a guest toss out any of our decorations...We had a dried bouquet from a local farm in the cottage and it was “tossed” out and replaced with your choice of flowers. As a courtesy, I did not deduct the bouquet from your damage deposit.
I also believe it is ironic that this is our only 3 star review in several years, as it seems that this just wasn’t a good fit for either of us.
With respect, we hope that you find somewhere else suitable for all your needs on your next trip to Salt Spring!
SSI summer 2019
Lovely cabin, bright, clean and comfortable. Quiet spot away from town. Love the decor/style. Suited our needs and taste very well.
Well equipped, although the bbq and coffee pot are showing their age (or previous mistreatment). Reliable wifi and Netflix kept my son happy even on a rainy day.
Peaceful quietude in nature
This is our third time staying in the cottage. We love the location near a farm, trails and off the beaten track. The owners are lovely and a great kitchen to cook all our meals in.
A gem for nature lovers.
Perfect getaway spot
Quiet, quaint, beautiful. I can't imagine a better place to stay. I loved it.
Lovely Relaxing Stay
We had lovely little stay for two nights celebrating our anniversary. The cottage is tucked away in a quiet part of the island, but still with relatively easy access to everything. It was so nice finding a place where we could bring our dog and he loved all of the nature around to explore. The place was clean, well-stocked and comfortable. We only wish we could have stayed longer!
Private and Romantic Get Away
We loved the private yet open and bright interior. A wonderful, clean and quiet cottage. Rain or shine this is a very nice romantic get away, we even loved watching and hearing the rain on the large skylight. We’d definitely return.
