About Judith Turner

This property has been in our family for 54 years and we love it dearly! We are a professional family living in Halifax and have decided to share our gem. We have lived year round in the home for about 6 years before moving to Halifax.

Judith Turner purchased this house in 1962

Why Judith Turner chose Victoria, Subd. B

Anybody that has ever visited Dalriada knows that is truly magical! A little oasis away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Large open areas for dogs and kids to roam free and stunning views of the mountains and water. You can take a swim, kayak, hike, run, or just sit and soak up the scenery!

What makes this house unique

A great getaway, but still close to amenities like groceries, liquor store, golfing, whale watching, sailing and fishing. Lots to explore and lots to do. A little something for everyone!

Killer view, but...

  • 3 of 5

The property is well-sited for a gorgeous water view. The spacious great room is all windows to take advantage of the view. The wood stove works well and there's electric baseboard heating. The kitchen was adequate, but the cupboards and the refrigerator were full, leaving no room for our stuff. There is only one bathroom in the house, and it's small. The shelves, like the kitchen, were full. You practically have to hug the sink to get up from the toilet. The bathroom was too small to share, even for family. The site is remote - 1.2 miles of dirt road to the driveway. Parts of the dirt road washed away in the heavy rains when we were there. Also, the power went out (not infrequent in Cape Breton I'm told) and there' s no backup generator for the house. We carried water from the nearby brook to flush the toilet, and used candles for light for 2 1/2 days. Loved the view and the great room, but wouldn't rent again - too risky.

A great place to relax

  • 4 of 5

We arrived after sunset after winding down the dirt road off the main highway. The lockbox was very evident and we were inside in less than a minute.

The living room / dining room was very welcoming, with plenty of comfortable couches and chair to collapse into. We quickly unpacked our food, and found nothing wanting in the kitchen. Everything you could want was right there.

Master bedroom was spacious, and the bed comfortable. There was only the two of us, but I could see how this would be great for a larger party,

House is well situated for the type of vacation we like. Private enough to enjoy a glass of wine at night, but close enough to venture out to the Cabot Trail or Baddeck.

We didn't use the dock and water sports as we ran out of time, but it looked very inviting.

If you are looking for a nice place to unwind or as home base, you will want to consider this!

Lovely secluded getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week at this well-maintained home that was perfect for a family of four. We enjoyed the comfortable living room with an extensive movie collection. The kitchen was well-stocked. The two connecting bedrooms were perfect for kids. The location was roughly halfway between North Sydney and Baddeck, making it convenient to Louisbourg, the Cabot Trail, and other Cape Breton activities. The owner was very responsive to inquiries before and during the rental. There was good cell phone reception (Rogers) so we were able to set up a wifi hotspot for internet connectivity. We found the the best grocery stores in North Syndey and Glace Bay (Sobeys and another whose name we forget) -- quality and selection far outpaced the Coop stores we found in Baddeck and other locations.

We would highly recommend Dalriada!

A beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

An absolutely beautiful home on the Bras d'Or Lakes. The cottage is so cozy and had everything we needed to enjoy our stay, including a well-equipped kitchen. The property is breathtaking and the kids enjoyed playing catch on the expansive lawns and fishing off of the dock. A wonderful family spot!
