About this property

Luxury log home with style-serene mountain living at it's finest!

Angel House is not your usual log home. It was built with the care and attention to detail that only a custom log home builder and his artist wife might choose for themselves. They built it with their own hands and they wish to share it with those who would like to experience life in the woods AND a bit of luxury. It was featured in Log Home Living Magazine in May 2010, and in STUDIOS Magazine in Summer 2013.
Just 1.8 miles from a paved highway, the property is on a scenic by-way bordered by San Isabel National Forest. Vibrant blue skies, beautiful rock outcrops, mixed forest and an abundance of wildlife make our location extra special. Quietly nestled in an aspen grove at 8760 ft., the Angel House is artfully appointed with colorful decor, featuring a spacious great room with 20 foot ceilings and a moss rock fireplace. With plenty of seating and a modern vibe, leather couches invite you to unhook and unwind. A flat screen TV and surround sound system provide music via Sirius radio, your bluetooth enabled devices, and entertainment via DISH Network. A collection of books as well as several DVD's of movies filmed in Westcliffe provide local flavor.
The spacious open kitchen with granite countertops will make a discriminating cook feel right at home. An island surrounded by colorful leather stools makes it easy to prepare meals and stay connected to the conversation. A variety of pans, utensils, serving ware, dishes and table linens needed to set a beautiful table; along with small appliances such as a toaster, blender, coffee maker, make for easy meal prep. A full size dishwasher, microwave, oven, stove, and refrigerator, plus plenty of cabinetry are ready to store anything you brought along. Your hosts provide dish soap, plus a few other treats like organic free-trade coffee, herbal teas, basic spices, hot cocoa, condiments.
The oak dining table seats 6 and can be expanded to seat 8. Additionally the breakfast bar seats 4, all seating is in close enough proximity to allow for easy conversation.
The spacious master suite has a king bed, writing desk, dresser, and a leather recliner for reading. The master bath has double vanities, a tub/shower and laundry facilities.Laundry soap and skin care/bath products and fluffy towels are provided.
The second bedroom has a queen bed, dresser and make up vanity. A full bathroom is easily accessible within steps of the bedroom door.
The third bedroom features twin bunks with stairs for easy access to the top bunk. Underbed dresser drawers provide ample storage. A half bath is within the bunk room for easy access.
All of the bedrooms and bathrooms are outfitted with high quality bedding, toiletries and plush towels. There is plenty of closet space to hang clothes, and dressers in each bedroom, encouraging guests to unpack and make themselves at home.
There are 2 decks, one off the great room and a larger one off the kitchen that provides outdoor space for entertaining in style. An outdoor grill and comfy patio furniture for lounging are right outside the door. The patio table seats 6.
The grounds are beautifully landscaped with high altitude gardens and there are spots to read or meditate and enjoy the serenity of the woods. A ski chair swing invites you to have a seat and contemplate. The only thing you will hear is the sound of the leaves, the chatter of birds, and the whoosh of the wind. It is not unusual to see our local critters, as Puma Canyon is home to elk, deer, bobcats, wild turkey, coyotes, red tail hawks, owls, and golden eagles. A herd of big horn sheep lives a couple of miles away.
Our community is one of 10 in the world that has earned a Dark Skies designation. The stars in our evening sky are a wonder to behold. Sunrises and sunsets are pretty spectacular as well.
Angel House is a perfect place for a family gathering, a girls get away, or a small writing retreat. Your hosts are literally right next door. and they are happy to provide opportunities for guests to explore a new skill or improve on one they are already interested in.
Massage therapyor Vibrational Sound therapy can be pre-booked for an on-site appointment. Call your hosts for details.
Angel House is a great place to serve as a home base for a variety day trips. Some our favorite spots accessible within an hour of scenic driving include a visit to Bishop's Castle, and a picnic at Lake San Isabel. A 40 min. drive to Canon City allows for exploration of the Royal Gorge; ride the train, cross the bridge on foot, experience the zip line. Fly fishing and white water rafting is a specialty of the area. A day of antiquing in Florence is a fun and relaxing 30 minutes away. A 50 minute drive to Pueblo provides for boutique shopping in the old town area and a stroll on the riverwalk. Going west, Mission Wolf is a great place for wildlife lovers. Within an easy 1.5 hour drive there are many attractions to be found in Colorado Springs, including the Pikes Peak Cog Railway, Santa's Workshop, the boutiques in Manitou Springs, Air Force Academy, and the Garden of the Gods. Want a westbound scenic drive? Try Salida, just 1.5 hours away. Artisan shops, restaurants and Monarch Ski Area await. Drive southwest to spend the day at the Great Sand Dunes. Every road you travel is endowed with a beauty all it's own. Even the road to the Angel House is part of the Scenic By-Ways system. Your hosts have mapped out all of these day trips and made restaurant recommendations in order to make it easy to pick one and get on the road!

Perfect Colorado Getaway
We enjoyed our stay at the Angle House. It was perfect for our family of four and dog to kick off the new year. It was away from the busyness of town with beautiful views. We enjoyed going around the the nearby towns and coming back to enjoy our afternoons and evenings at the home. Thank you Mark and Julie for sharing your beautiful property!

Beautiful, peaceful oasis!
We loved our weekend at Angel house. The house was lovely and comfortable. Beautiful fall colors around, nice walks from the house. Could see billions of stars from the deck at night. Enjoyed hikes in the area and checking our Westcliffe, especially the Amish bakery. Overall a hidden gem!

Host profile image
Mark and Julie Stamper love living in Colorado. Mark is a native and he is a seasoned ski instructor, and an an award winning custom log home builder. His homes have been featured in 3 national magazines. He is an avid fly fisherman and is honing his skills as a distance cyclist, enjoying events like Ride The Rockies.
Julie was a history teacher and guidance counselor who retired to her studio to make and teach fiber arts classes. Her award winning work graces the walls of the Angel House. She taught fitness classes for 16 years and is a certified yoga instructor, EFT practitioner and Vibrational Sound therapist. She enjoys transformational books, and is a contributing author to the international bestselling anthology, Pebbles in the Pond.
Mark and Julie enjoy entertaining and welcoming people to share the Angel House. The home was designed to accommodate a large family gathering. Now that Mark's father has passed and his mother is living in Denver, we can open the Angel House to our new family of kindred spirits who wish to bathe in the energy of the trees and enjoy the tranquility of the mountains.

Why they chose this property

Our goal was to get away from the hustle of the city and build our dream retirement home. We purchased this property because it had beautiful rock outcroppings, aspen and a mixed forest, plus an intermittent stream. The name Puma Canyon Ranch intrigued us. Later we discovered that puma energy is all about decisiveness, personal power and taking charge of your life. We appreciate the location because it does not require a trek on bumpy dirt roads. Highway 96 is 1.8 miles, and from there we can access Colorado Springs in 70 minutes, Canon City in 40 minutes, Pueblo in 50 minutes, Florence in 30 minutes and Westcliffe town center in 25 minutes.

What makes this property unique

Because we had the liberty to build whatever we wanted, we chose to build 2 homes in one, carefully designing the living spaces for maximum privacy. The Angel House is one home, with a private entrance and private decks. It is attached to the main house, however it is quite possible to not know if there is anyone home at the main house. It is quiet, yet if you need something, your hosts are right next door. There are so many uniques features of the Angel House. The walls are constructed from 10" pine logs and the beams and purlins are even larger. This house has presence and guests love how solid the house feels and note the beauty of the log walls. The open feel of the great room is enhanced by the vaulted, tongue and groove ceilings and the large expanse of windows that let in the beauty of the site. The decor was carefully chosen for comfort and to convey a cheerful welcome. Your hosts created a home they would be happy to move into themselves. All the details of a well functioning home have been attended to. Guests may choose to watch the hummingbirds, take a walk, hike around on 70 acres of pristine mountain property or snowshoe right out the front door in the winter. Private places to sit in the garden include a ski chair swing made from a lift chair that was discarded by Loveland Ski Area when Mark and his family worked on the mountain.
