About this property

The Sanctuary - a house that sleeps 8 guests in 4 bedrooms

The Sanctuary, Sandown is an attractive four storey town house situated in a pleasant tree lined street within 150 metres of the beach and High Street, with easy access to a wide variety of facilities, including shops, pubs, restaurants and cafes. Built in 2012, the property is beautifully furnished and equipped to a very high standard with 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and 2 sitting rooms. The top floor sitting room has the added attraction of a gorgeous roof terrace offering a stunning panorama of rural and sea views. The enclosed, sunny, south facing garden is perfect for BBQs and children's play. The extra space and bathrooms make the Sanctuary ideal for larger families looking to holiday together.

Sandown is a lovely destination for a seaside holiday, with safe waters, miles of soft golden sands and an entertaining pleasure pier. The Esplanade has seaside cafes, souvenir and beach shops together with a number of restaurants all with glorious sea views. The pier is a year-round destination in its own right with traditional pier amusements together with bumper cars, crazy golf, bowling, a soft play area for little ones and, in summer, great fishing off the pier end.

The beach has lifeguards in summer and a range of hire outlets, with everything from deck chairs, sun lounges and windbreaks, through to sea fishing kayaks, surfboards, pedalos and long board skateboards. There is a surfing school and a water sport centre that offers a range of tuition from kite surfing to sailing. The High Street runs parallel to the seafront esplanade giving easy access to a selection of tourist and arty shops, together with banks, pubs, cafes, restaurants and major supermarket chains. Sandown's well equipped leisure centre has an indoor pool, health suite, fitness classes and gym.

Additional Sandown attractions are its popular 18 hole golf course, Dinosaur Isle with its life size models and Isle of Wight Zoo famous for its Tiger Sanctuary. Along the seafront towards Dinosaur Isle there is a pitch and put, a bowling green and large play park with skateboard ramps, basketball courts, football pitch, climbing wall and duck pond.

The Sanctuary is a 10 minute walk from Sandown train station. Within 100 metres of the property there are bus stops with regular services to the beach resorts of Ryde and Shanklin and, in the season, two open top bus services which provide a delightful extra way to explore the Island's beautiful scenery.

5/5 Excellent

August 22
We had a lovely family holiday here. There were 2 families, including 3 children. There was plenty of space for everyone to spread out. The bedrooms were very comfortable and everything was well appointed. However, there wasn’t any gas in the bbq and this wasn’t replaced when we tried to call. The wardrobe in the top twin bedroom smelt horrible. A retractable washing line is needed in the garden for a house this size and a long handled brush to clean up the sand. Also the door to the balcony needs a support to stop it blowing into the corner of the roof and smashing. Saying this we had a wonderful holiday and the position is fantastic for the beach and the children loved evening swims and going for ice cream after dinner.

Perfect weather and comfortable accommodation
Wonderful weather coupled with a comfortable stay at the Sanctuary. More mirrors in bedrooms would be helpful

Lovely property
We loved the accommodation. Just a couple of things like no washing machine cupboard door and slow shower over bath in double ensuite but really nothing to complain about. For myself and partners Mum, would have liked a full length mirror in our bedrooms near a plug socket but still nothing to complain about and just an idea for future guests. We had an amazing time and the property was brilliant. Would definitely recommend to others.

Our second consecutive year
We booked The Sanctury for a second year as it was a great house for the family in a great location. Only one shower at a time could happen as it reduced the water pressure to zero if more than one tap was running. The dining chairs were very flakey and the residue kept sticking to our legs and clothes. Although we appreciate the cleaning process, not to be able to have access until 5pm on arrival with a family felt inconvenient and to be asked to vacate at 9am on departing seemed a little extreme. Given all those points, we would recommend this property, as the good still far outweighs the points I’ve made, they just need to be considered when booking. Thank you for letting us all stay!

Holiday at location with 3 families
The house that we stayed in was in good condition. When we first arrived the house and rooms were all cleaned and wiped down. There was plenty of space in the bedrooms to store all of your clothes with the drawers and wardrobes, and plenty of hangers to go with them. There was plenty of pots and pans to use in the kitchen to feed 7 people, along with a big fridge freezer to store enough food as well. Dishwasher and washing machine as well, only tiny downside was that if you did any washing, there was only 1 clothes horse to dry your clothes, there was no washing line. The dining room / living room was nice with the doors out to the garden, big table to enough people to gather round and to eat, there was only 1 light in the room though, so at night it was a bit dim. There is another living room at the top of the stairs with 2 sofas and another t.v. which was lovely to relax to in the evening, especially with the doors open out to the balcony which provided and lovely area to relax day or night. Added lights on the balcony made extra special at evening and night. Could of easily spent all my time on the balcony. Location is superb. 5 minute walk to the beach, 5 minute walk to the high street with all the your food shops and other local shops. Sainsburys and Co-Op as well for any food top ups you need. And a bus stop literally across the road from the house. Plenty of options within a small walking distance. Overall i would say this holiday home was amazing and would definitely consider using it again in the future!
