Le Vernay was an old farmhouse with various barns and out buildings. It has been carefully renovated to retain all its original character yet provides attractive and comfortable accommodation. Set on a gentle hillside in 2.5 hectares of land, it overlooks its own fields and stream. There has been a house on this site for over 500 years. Originally le Vernay was a hamlet supporting whole farming families in the barns and 'dependences' which adjoin the house though these areas are now inaccessible or have vanished with time. A local farmer from the next village keeps a few gentle cows on the adjacent farm land. You will see all kinds of wildlife: lizards, varieties of butterflies and moths, many birds from nesting blue tits to overhead buzzards, and occasionally owls and bats. The water is mains water from the village and drinkable. Wifi is available in the house.
A wide balcony runs along the front of the house, and the entrance opens from the balcony into the fully equipped kitchen, the hub of the house, with a large table and chairs. The door on the left leads into the adjacent sitting room with two large sofas, chairs and a low table, with many books on the large bookshelf.
Opening off the kitchen to the right is a storage area with laundry and drying facilities, The badminton set is kept here as well as other utensils. This leads to the main bathroom with shower cubicle, wash basin and toilet. There is an additional separate toilet.
Upstairs are three bedrooms opening off the landing. The larger bedroom has a four poster double bed with wardrobe and chest of drawers, the second bedroom has a double bed also with wardrobe and chest of drawer, and the third is a smaller room with a single bed. There is a shower room with shower cubicle, wash basin and toilet.
The spacious balcony runs the full length of the house and provides out door living space with an additional table, chairs and a bench. On sunny days, shaded by vines, one can while away the hours, enjoying the view, and the peaceful silence, whilst looking out for wild life or listening to the birdsong. There are no other houses or their owners in sight though the village is just 5 minutes walk away.
The house is completely private as it is at the end of a small lane only used by the occasional local farmer on tractors or people out for a walk. In adverse weather conditions the lane can get muddy and uneven. There is a sheltered parking place for a car in the garden, and an orchard planted with fruit trees.
The nearest shops are 2K away in Salornay with a butcher, baker, post office, pharmacy and small supermarket. For large supermarkets, shopping and all other facilities, Cluny is only 15 k away, a 10 minute drive along a road with a beautiful view.
There are many walks directly from the house, through forests, fields and villages. Burgundy is rich in lush pastures, deep woodlands, ancient chateaux, golden vineyards and endless pretty hamlets. The peace and quiet is blissfully restorative after a busy urban life, whereas the wealth of diverse leisure and cultural activities in the area always provide something new to explore and enjoy.
