About this property

Watauga River Cabins- Cedar Cabin

The property featured is a newly built 3,000 sq. ft. "upscale rustic" lodge. The lodge is located at the headwaters of the trophy trout section on the beautiful Watauga River. The lodge was built using mostly reclaimed wood from local tobacco barns. From the barn wood kitchen cabinets, to the tobacco flooring and siding, this lodge is truly unique. Even though the lodge was completed in 2015, it looks as though it has been there for a hundred years. From using a whiskey barrel to hold a faucet to rusty metal ceilings, this lodge is truly one of a kind. The lodge is equipped with all modern appliances and a fully equipped kitchen. Hand made barn wood cabinets and granite counter tops makes this kitchen an inviting place to cook and enjoy family time.

Relax on our Back Deck: A guest favorite…our back deck is the place to enjoy the great outdoors while watching the river go by. You might even see someone catching a fish! Featuring a stone wood burning fireplace, an outdoor kitchen area, and teak furniture & rocking chairs – this relaxed setting is the perfect place to unwind. This section of the Watauga River is a fisherman's paradise! You can walk off the large covered back porch down to a wadable river to fish, kayak, or watch wildlife.

Located on a country road, you would think you are a long way from civilization, but travel four miles down the road and you can pick up anything you need. The lodge is fully equipped with linens and all household items. All you need to bring is personal items and food.

We have been planning this lodge for a long time & we hope you will enjoy it as much we do! We look forward to meeting you!

Fully-Stocked, Tennessee Gem
The river was a glorious backdrop to this clean, fully-stocked retreat with massive covered porch and firewood in abundance. An ideal setup for two couples and four kids (including a mother-in-law suite perfect for teens) with space for more. The owners/managers were extremely welcoming and helpful. If staying the weekend, do yourself a favor by indulging at The Farmer's Daughter restaurant. Overall, a great stay. We left TN with full hearts and full bellies.

Should have stayed longer
This is an incredible cabin with such a relaxing atmosphere. Our family had a great time and enjoyed staying at Cedar Cabin. We would have stayed longer if we had been able to.

Wonderful place and people
We’ve stayed here multiple times as a group. It has always been a great place to stay. We had to cancel this trip last minute due to a family emergency. The owners were very gracious to work out rescheduling/refunding the trip.

I own a retirement mobile home park and my wife is a retired Biology teacher in Frostproof, Florida.

Why they chose this property

The river property came into my mother’s family in the 1890’s. My great grandfather built the family homestead. In 1901 (pre-dam) a flood came and damaged the home. With mules and logs they moved the 3,000 square foot, 2 story home across the creek and placed it on higher ground. Before the dam was built in the mid 1940’s, the river would sometimes look like a creek, at other times it would rise and come out its 50 foot banks. In the winter, the river would freeze and my great grandparents would cut squares of ice from the river and bury it in their home for later use. Before the bridge, there was a natural shelf that allowed the horse and buggies to cross the river in front of the cabins.

The ground was farmed until I received it in 2003. My mother was raised on the property, until she married my father in 1947 and moved to Florida. We vacationed here every year, so I have always loved this place. I wanted a place of my own but hated the idea of having it sit empty most of the time. I am in the rental business in Florida so I decided to build something that could be rented when we are not able to be here. At that time, there were no buildings on the property so I was able to start from scratch. I really like the character of horse barns and thought, why not build one that could house people. So, in 2004, we built the cabins and it has been a great adventure! This past winter, we completed our retirement cabin. The cabin has three bedrooms, three baths, and an apartment on the lower level.

We hope you choose us for your lodging in East Tennessee. We know you will enjoy it.
