Noisy Neighbors versus Convenience
There was a tenant downstairs with kids who were up screaming and shouting as early as 5am. The floor boards throughout the bedrooms and hallway were so squeaky it was impossible not make noise without doing “mission impossible” type moves... It was very conveniently located close enough to DC and it had a working washer and dryer which is why I gave it 2 stars. But I would not stay here again. The cabinets still have tape for handles and the dishwasher handle was taped diagonally across the front so I didn’t dare use it. There are still bug traps in all the closets. Overall it served its purpose. I’m really sorry to have to say anything negative but I DO wish I had listened to the reviews. I thought I’d give them the benefit of the doubt and maybe after a year things would be better. Or maybe the reviewers were exaggerating. But I’m sad to say I would NOT recommend this place or stay again.
Very impressed with the kindness of the owner and quick response to requests.
The owner is very helpful and responds on time. The apartment is spacious with beautiful furniture. Great place for visiting the DC metro . We really enjoyed the stay. Kept it up Gloriana.
So the location is GREAT!! Easy to get to, close to shopping and Metro. That is were it ends. The house is in total disrepair. Bug traps everywhere. The landscaping was non-existant. Literally weeds up to my hip!! ZERO contact from the owner. I attempted to reach out of her via e-mail and text at least 5 times with no response. There was one small skillet and a small sauce pan. For a house that hold up to six people what kind of meal can you make with that? The fridge and air conditioner barely kept anything cool. This house could use some serious TLC!
Well I will start off by saying nice location and easy access to major locations. The house was UNDER standards. When we arrived we noticed the trash cans were overflowing with trash, silverware on flowerbed bordering. Looked at our reservation and it gave a code for the lockbox which did not work and so I walked around the house to find that the code worked another lockbox located on a downstairs door but no key inside it. I called the owner and got a voicemail, left a message telling her we were locked out. Well, we NEVER got a call back. Extremely POOR service. My reservation showed check in was at 2pm and we arrived a little early from our 15+ hour drive so I figured I would give it a little while and wait for a call back or someone to show up and assist us. That never happened. Looked into the reservation again to find simple instructions that included another number for lockbox and that check in is at 4pm. Well that code worked and got in. At first sight the home is extremely nice for an older home and vacation home so we dont expect perfect ( i worked in short term rentals for 8 years down by Disney ) so we know what to expect. After walking the home we found multiple areas dirty, really dirty. Why does anyone pay a cleaning fee if it's not clean? Refrig/freezer was nasty, under cushions in living room full of food and even a spoon, left over opened bag of rice in cabinet, eggs in refrigerator (which was nice of someone), and inside the drawers of kitchen was gross. I was not touching anything in there. Bug traps everywhere and even have bug droppings in 1 drawer in kitchen. Master bedroom bathroom was not completed, not a big deal but was never told about it and I believe it I'm paying for a service or place to stay then it should be corrected. There was no welcome packet, no coverings on rear doors, railing was loose, tile at bottom of step all broken and covered by a door mat. Stickers and filth all over the doors and frames.Laundry room/futon room not completed (almost looked like a catch all for crap) no cover plates on certain electrical points.Bedroom doors were cracked around the locks and 1 frame was broken.FLOORS wow they were horrible. The floors look great but wow are they squeaky.Could not get up and walk round without waking up everyone. I know it would be difficult to fix that but it was bad.I dont recall reading anything about a unit below with people but that is a huge security issue.have pics of everything. have more
The location was perfect.
Gloriana was super nice and a joy to work with. We actually extended our stay and she patiently helped us through the process. Home is close to stores and the metro.
Would love to give this house 5 stars but I can't.
Well, let me tell you the Real deal about this property...
Amenities: Everything we needed was available to us. Full-sized W/D, full kitchen (with updated appliances), towels, two full bathrooms, and two good size full beds. CONS: The beds were lower to the floor than I like (kind of like a futon-stye); all of the pillows were not full and fluffy, they were clean but flat; and the comforter in the master did have a slight scent of possibly someone else's body. Not stinky but a faint enough scent that I could tell it was not freshly washed.
The floors (laminate) were very squeaky, especially in the master.
TV: If you are a TV fan, you might want to read further. There is ONE TV in the living room ONLY. Cable provider is DISH Satellite TV. It rained the night before, satellite did go out but returned once the rain stopped. You can watch local news, PPV stations, some old movies, home shopping network, a game show or two, but no CNN, MSNBC, Bravo, Lifetime, etc., you get the idea...
Tenant In Basement: There is a tenant in the basement. Never saw the person(s) but I did hear them. It did bother me that there was some else in the home to the point that I did not feel completely at ease. Since I was traveling alone until my husband arrived a few days later, I locked my bedroom door just to feel safe. There is no window/door covering in kitchen.
Communication W/Owner: Prior to arriving, the owner never provided me with arrival instructions. I did not like that at all (although owner claims to have emailed a "welcome packet"). After at least three emails and on the day of my arrival, I was provided with arrival instructions, at least on how to enter the property.
There was a "Welcome Folder" in the dining room behind the table near the wall (not obviously staged for the rental tenant to easily see) that provided information about the house. We noticed it two days later. One might expect to see such in the kitchen or on the coffee table in the living room). Inside the folder was the wi-fi password (that did NOT work), and other information. After several attempts, my husband called the owner to inquire. Only then did we finally get wi-fi.
PRO's: Both beds were comfortable. House was very clean. Neighborhood was quiet.
Will I stay here again? Probably not. Did the house serve our purpose? Yes it did. Do I expect excellent service for my money? You're darn right!
It's important to know the Real deal about this property.
It is a very central location. About 15 minutes to DC and to VA. 495 is only a couple miles away.
