About this property

The Place in Rye - peaceful spacious cottage in the heart of ancient Rye.

The Place in Rye is located in The Mint in the very centre of historic Rye, and sleeps 4. There is easy parking nearby with a car park only 50 meters from the cottage.

Meticulously cleaned between guests to ensure your safety.

The beautifully renovated cottage has 2 light and airy bedrooms with king size beds and ample storage space. Each bedroom has its own luxury bathroom with soft white fluffy towels and Duck Island products. There is a new fully fitted kitchen, dining area and comfortable sitting room, WIFI, smart TV and small library. There is a peaceful sunny courtyard with outside seating for 4.

Two sumptuous bedrooms with wonderful views, king size beds and luxury bed linen will ensure that you wake every morning feeling refreshed and ready to explore the medieval delights of Rye. Both bedrooms have ample storage and hanging space and hairdriers are provided in each bedroom. Both bathrooms have storage for your bathroom needs and complementary Duck Island products to ensure you have what you need when you arrive. One bathroom has a rolltop bath and the other a large walk-in shower. Fluffy towels are provided as are beach towels should you wish to swim in the sea.

There is a brand new fully equipped kitchen with washing machine, drier, dishwasher, fridge freezer, oven and microwave and all the necessary equipment for you to be able to cook if you so wish. Teas, coffee, hot chocolate and milk are provided and a selection of basic condiments for cooking. On your arrival there will be a few homebaked biscuits or flapjacks, a small loaf of bread and fresh butter, honey/jam for breakfast to start your stay.

There is a dining area seating four around an oak dining table, a small library offering a few choice books and traditional board games for you to enjoy during your stay. The sitting room has a very comfortable sofa and two stylish armchairs, a smart TV and luxurious woollen rugs. There is WIFI throughout the cottage.

A private courtyard leads off the sitting room and offers somewhere to relax in a peaceful environment away from the crowds. A lovely oak bench and two additional chairs allows four people to enjoy an aperitif or a simple meal outside in the sunshine.

Our art is inspired by the seaside and many of the furnishings and decorations have been locally sourced.

Look out for little seasonal treats! At Christmas traditional decorations will include a real fir tree. At Easter there will be Spring flowers and small chocolate gifts for you to enjoy. Lavender bags filled with our homegrown lavender scent the wardrobes. During the summer months there are freshly picked flowers from our Sussex garden and a bowl of fruits from our orchard after harvest.

The cottage is ideally situated in the ancient citadel less than one minute's walk from historic Mermaid Street, the High Street, and less than five minutes walk from the station.

Guests use the entire cottage. We will be there to greet you personally and hand over the keys when you arrive. However if you wish to self check-in we do have a keysafe. We can be contacted by telephone during your stay.

The cottage is an elegant retreat for couples and unfortunately children under the age of 12 are not permitted. Pets are not allowed.

Pricing is based on one person staying. Extra guests are charged an additional £20 per head per night.

Just Perfect!
This "Cottage" is perfect in everyway. We loved the location in the quaint and charming town of Rye, the quality finishings, and furnishings throughout, the well-equipped kitchen, the comfortable beds, the rear courtyard backing onto the old city wall, and all of this was spotless, spotless, spotless! Thank you Andrea for allowing us to enjoy this beautiful home.

Lovely cottage in central Rye
This house is surprising - much bigger inside than it looks from the outside. It was superbly equipped (best equipped kitchen of all the many houses we have stayed in). It was lovely to find tea and coffee, bread, butter, marmalade, milk and some sweet treats left for us so we didnt need to go shopping as soon as we arrived. Also oil, vinegar etc. Very helpful. The beds were very comfortable, the shower room and ensuite lovely, the sitting room cosy and the wifi reliable. The decor was relaxing and attractive. Some lovely books were in the house and clear instructions about how to work things, suggestions of places to eat etc (all good!) It was a fabulous home from home for a few days. I really cant think of a thing to criticise about this lovely house. The only issue for some might be that parking is not adjacent to the house, as it is a central cottage, and the narrowness of the road means you cant even stop briefly outside to load a car. We were fortunate to be able to park at the nearest car park throughout our stay, but I wonder if this could be a difficulty in the summer season? Could be tricky for the infirm. Also quite a cost for a longer stay. Andrea thoughtfully made contact to check we had arrived and everythjng was OK. Thank you for such a wonderful welcome.

Gorgeous cottage!
This is our second stay here and we will certainly be back for our third! The decor is so lovely, the beds are so comfortable, and all the goodies for guests to use are really welcome. We had brilliant weather and it was lovely to sit out in the courtyard and smell the lavender and honeysuckle! Yes,there is no parking but we didn't find it a problem at all! Andrea is a great host and really communicative. Location is perfect as there are so many lovely cafes, restaurants and pubs to choose from to dine or just have a drink! This is a cottage to return to again and again!

We loved every minute of stay in Rye at The Mint
We had a wonderful stay at The Mint in Rye. Everything more than met expectations, from the lovely décor, comfy beds, and goodies in the kitchen, to the location and charm of the house itself and the village. Very highly recommend! And just a note for other U.S. travelers who might like a break from driving or are opting not to rent a car, the bus and train station is only a short walk away. We found it both easy and fun to get out to the harbor and over to Hastings by bus and train.

Andrea and Christopher welcome you to our home in Rye. After years of weekending in this idyllic town we decided when Christopher retired that the time had come to buy our lovely cottage. We have lived locally for almost thirty years.

Why they chose this property

We adore Rye and wanted to find a cottage in the citadel so that we could walk to everything that we so enjoy. We have found a real gem we think! We love staying at the cottage as do our grown up sons. Everything is so close by, and yet the cottage is very peaceful, has good natural light and a secluded courtyard which is sun filled in the summer months and very private.

What makes this property unique

Despite having everything that Rye has to offer just a few steps away, the cottage is peaceful and relaxing. We hope that you will enjoy the cottage as much as we do.
