About this property

The Old Stables. Sleeps 6, just 10mins from bath by train 15mins by car

The Old Stables is a stone built cottage created from a stable block dating from the 1840’s . A three bedroom cottage (two king and one twin-bed)with a fully equipped kitchen opening onto a dining room. There is a separate living room with TV/DVD and two large leather couches .The living room opens onto the courtyard with large glass bi-fold doors. The Old Stables can accommodate 6 people. It is located in the beautiful Georgian village of Freshford which lies at the junction of the Frome and Avon valleys in the southern Cotswolds. Just 5 miles from Bath and 2 miles from the historic town of Bradford on Avon. Freshford has a very good pub (The Inn at Freshford)serving great food and local beer and ciders a few minutes walk from the cottage. .There is also a well stocked village community shop and café.
There are some wonderful walks along the Avon and Frome rivers and the Kennet and Avon canal leading to riverside Inns and areas of local interest (Iford Manor).
All just 15 minutes from Bath by car but the secret of this location is the 9 minute train journey to Bath from the village station, just a short stroll from the cottage. Services run every 30 mins at peak times and hourly thereafter..

Wedding weekend stay
The property was spotless. The welcome card and breakfast food was a special touch. We were a party of 4 adults and 2 children. There is no garden but for us this was not an issue. We may never get back to the UK but I would not hesitate to book this property again.

New Year at the Old Stables
Our stay at the property over New Year was made enjoyable by the ease of the booking and ease of communication with the owners who provided a much appreciated welcome basket. The property is very well furnished and utensils are abundant, making our stay feel like a home away from home. Thank you. Jenny and Kevin

Good long weekend in Bath
We had a good time in Freshford. Great location and great size for our family of 4, with 3 space-ish bedrooms, clean and comfortable. The welcome breakfast goodies were a generous touch. We hadn't properly appreciated that were was no outdoor space and that reference to courtyard for parking is literally for cars, no outdoor furniture etc. The Inn at Freshford is only a few mins away with an amazing beer garden but in this current heatwave, we would have really welcomed somewhere outside to sit at the house. But our fault for not reading the property details more carefully. We also felt quite nervous about the repeated reminders about not blocking access for the neighbours. We didn't have any problems but it made us a little less relaxed than normal.

Perfect location
Perfect spot for a couple of essential workers and our kids to unwind. Lots of day hikes and train trips to Bath and Bristol to explore. Plenty of space in the cottage for us all to relax in the evenings. No car for us so planned our meals and food shopping easily with the trains and pubs along our day hikes. Bradford on Avon is a pretty 2 mile walk away along the canal with lots to offer. Great stay!
