About this property

Traditional Granite detached Cornish miner's cottage nr St Ives Cornwall.

FAIRHAVEN
This is a traditional, old Cornish miner's cottage within the beautiful, rural hamlet of Cripplesease, with extensive views over rolling countryside. It is perfectly located for the south west, being just 3 miles from St Ives and 4 miles from Penzance. An ideal base for walkers, surfers and cyclists or anyone wanting to get away from it all. It's just 2 minutes walk to the great local pub, the Engine Inn. The detached cottage sits in it's own lawned gardens, one of which is gated. There is easy access to the road that goes to St Ives and Penzance.

ABOUT THE OWNER
As the home of a local, photographic artist, Fairhaven features many examples of his original work. The owner also has a lifetime of local knowledge and experience and would be happy to organise tailor made photographic, walking, surfing and cycling excursions. Both gardens are level and one of them, being gated, is suitable for children. Both gardens have a decking area with table and chairs for catching the sun throughout the whole day.

A three seater leather sofa with single armchair provides comfortable seating for the large screened Smart TV. There is a wood burner in the original, double fireplace and small stereo system within the bookshelves.

This light and airy space has two comfortable sofas and a coffee table for enjoying the view of the local, rolling countryside.

Master Bedroom
This bedroom has a King size bed and a fitted wardrobe. Views can be seen over the garden and stretching down the valley whilst you are enjoying a morning cup of tea.

Bucolic Setting with Gorgeous Views
The cottage sits near a regional road in a bucolic setting with gorgeous views and neighboring pastures. It combines the best of old and new and was renovated by its current owner, John Knee, who lives there when it is not rented. The house is well equipped, decorated with found seaside art and John’s photographs, and includes most modern cons (no clothes dryer). The cottage is 200 years old, which translates into smallish bedrooms. There are two beds, one with a firm mattress in the larger bedroom and a the other with a softer mattress. The one bathroom is upstairs between the bedrooms. The bath / electric shower combo has a window with a pleasant view. The bath is very relaxing. There is a rather steep staircase, which could be problematic for small children and adults with mobility issues. The one drawback for us (or draw for some) is the lack of phone service (Vodaphone & OS-2 for our two mobiles) in the area and occasionally poor Internet. John is on WhatsApp and we found texting on the app was the best way to contact him. There is a space for one car between the stone pillars and near the cottage, just beyond where the owner parks his car, which is closer to the road. Maneuvering parking can be tricky due to the bend in the road which creates a blindspot. There is a rotary washing line for outdoor clothes drying. We had beautiful weather so that worked out well, and we appreciated John’s providing extra clothes pegs. John is a very welcoming and responsive host and addressed our requests very quickly. He is a local and an excellent resource on touring. Mark and Jon at the nearby Engine Inn—highly recommended—were also quite helpful. We had a wonderful time and would certainly stay again, especially if mobile phone service or a landline were made available.

Holiday with 3 other family members in St Ives
I had a Brother and Sister in Law visiting the UK from SA and decided to plan a trip to St Ives Cornwall somewhere they had never visited. From the moment we arrived at the Cottage we could tell it was right for us. It was based outside St Ives which worked for us as the Place was jam packed and Parking can be a nightmare. The Cottage itself had everything you could require was quaint, very well presented and comfortable for the 4 of us to spend time together. We were lucky the weather was kind and the opportunity to spend time outside walking BBQ'ing and enjoying the area was great. So this cottage comes well recommended by us if you want a venue that's quaint comfortable has privacy and is in easy access for surrounding areas.!

VG Peter

Perfect
We spent a lovely week at Fairhaven with our baby. The house was immaculately clean, the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in, and impeccably presented. John went above and beyond in ensuring our stay was enjoyable. Highlight for me were the cows for company at meal times on the terrace. They would bed down at night not far from the wall. Stunning views of rolling hills too. Pub next door does lovely grub.
