Overview

About the property

3 levels of living in historic tower in Barolo center- 1 Bedroom, Sleeps 2.

TorreBarolo is one of a kind! It is a renovated 18th century tower that is in the center of Barolo, which is in the heart of the Langhe Valley. With all that Barolo has to offer you might not want to leave town. You are truly spoiled for choice with all the wineries, restaurants and wine shops that are just a few minute walk from TorreBarolo.

However, Barolo is also the perfect location if you want to do lots of touring in the Langhe as it is just a 10 min drive to many of the most scenic and noteworthy wine producing hill top towns such as La Morra and Monforte D'Alba. And a short 15 min drive from Barolo brings you into Alba, a charming cobble stone medieval city with Michelin star restaurants, fantastic weekend markets, great food and fashion stores and an excellent tourist center to ensure you take advantage of everything the Langhe has to offer.

But when you are done touring for the day and are ready for some privacy where you can uncork some wine and slice up the local salumi you bought, then TorreBarolo's roof top terrace gives you the ultimate setting to sit back, sip and take it all in.

From TorreBarolo's elevated position in the village (2nd tallest building in town after the Castle), you enjoy sweeping views of the vineyards and medieval hill top towns that contribute to the charm of the Langhe Valley. In 2014, the Langhe and surrounding areas were appointed a UNSECO Heritage location.

The property offers you 3 levels of living space.

1st FLOOR - GUESTROOM: The guestroom consists of 2 twin beds that 99% of the time are put together but can be separated on request. The bedding is 100% cotton with down duvets of varied weights. Each bed has 2 pillows, 1 firm and 1 down. There is a small ensuite bathroom with shower, sink, bidet and toilet. Towels and a hairdryer are provided though please bring your own toiletries. Since June 2015, the guestroom has a large air-conditioning wall unit.

2nd FLOOR - LIVING AREA/KITCHEN: Open plan living/dining/kitchen area with six floor-to-ceiling French doors providing stunning views of the environs. There is a side terrace off this floor, where a table and 2 benches enable you to enjoy al fresco cocktails and meals. Half a flight of stairs up from the living area, there is a mezzanine, where there is a 42' flat screen TV to watch a small library of DVDs and a desk and chair where you can use your laptop as the property offers broadband internet access (ADSL), either via Ethernet cable or WiFi. Since June 2015, the living area/kitchen has a large air-conditioning wall unit.

3rd FLOOR - ROOF TERRACE: This is the most breathtaking feature of the tower. During your stay you will have exclusive use of the roof terrace that consists of comfortable outdoor furniture and an umbrella to shield the sun on warm summer days.

STYLE: Although the tower was refurbished with an eye to maintaining many of its historic features (ie, terra cotta floors, stone steps, arched window), many of the fittings and furniture are contemporary in design, thus providing something more stylized than most of the local B&B's and agriturismo.

There is no doubt the Langhe is a "must" for foodie and wine lovers but the area also offers many wonderful outdoor activities including cycling, hiking, golf and skiing in the winter.

Barolo is easy to access with large international airports in both Genoa and Turin, which are both just about an hour away, while Milan is two hours away. Barolo is only a short 20 min to the A6 Autostrada which within 1 hour you can reach the beaches of the Italian Riviera while the mountains on the border with France are about a 90 minute drive to the west.

Please refer to our website to learn more about the property and near by attractions.

About Robbie Ferrito

Hi. I having been coming to the Langhe since 1998. I used to live in London so it wasn't so crazy to buy a vacation property in my favorite place on earth. Then in 2009, I ended up marrying an Italian who wanted to live in California. We live in Pasadena and my Italian has found paradise here and now I can't get him to even think about moving back to Europe. I love my tower and will never give it up, and my 6 year old son now refers to it as his so until I can retire there, I now rent it out so that it gets used by other people who can enjoy it as much as I do.

Robbie Ferrito purchased this apartment in 2005

Why Robbie Ferrito chose Barolo

I have been fortunate to travel the world but every time I go to Barolo and sit on my roof terrace it takes my breath away. And in the 12 years I have owned my tower, there are so many events that have become staples of the seasons. There are music festivals that draw some pretty amazing performers. Then of course there are the food and wine festivals. The region is excellent in supplying information in English on the regional tourist website about all these events. The biggest is in October and November and centers around the harvest of the white Alba truffle.

My property is my home and you get the entire 3 floors all to yourself. You can walk out the door in a 1 min be enjoying a morning espresso. There are at least 5 restaurants in town that all server regional dishes and I can't even guess how many wine stores there are now but at least 10, and many have tastings and a place to sit outside and soak it all in.

There are lots of stairs in the property but in the 11 years I have rented it no one has ever complained about the stairs and most say they appreciate them as it was the only offset to all the food and wine they were drinking.

Barolo is in the countryside but an easy 15 min to ALBA and an easy 20 min from the Autostrada therefore making it a very perfect location for touring both in the Langhe and Piemonte and Liguria.

What makes this apartment unique

An 18th century tower that is the 2nd tallest building in the town (after the Castle) which offers complete privacy yet is in the center of the most important wine town in the Langhe, and some could argue in Italy. From every window the views are breathtaking but it is the huge roof terrace that will take your breadth away and have you coming back year after year. To have this privacy and views and still be steps away from excellent restaurants, entotecas and wineries, TorreBarolo offers it all.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Who does not dream of staying in an old tower? How wonderful that we could meet this dream with Megan's tower in Barolo in such a wonderful way!

The tower is really as beautifully renovated as the photos it promises, the views are truly 360 degrees and breathtaking to any weather. Everything is so well equipped that you can also cook at home and the descriptions in the information folders are very well to use all devices safely.

Only when we needed the heater on a cool autumn evening, we could not understand the instructions. But Daniela helped us here and was there quickly and it was uncomplicated.

We even enjoyed the stairs, and the many parking facilities are not too far away, so we would book the tower again

Thank you Megan and Daniela for the helpful hints in advance and the great on-site support!

Excellent property!

  • 5 of 5

The pictures and description of this accommodation are certainly accurate but cannot fully describe the wonderful ambiance of this unique, historical and authentic property. It is cute and charming, situated in the middle of town and was perfect as our home base while exploring the Barolo, and fully equipped to meet our needs while relaxing and living in the suite. The rooftop deck was a special treat .

We especially appreciated the great communication and quick responses from the owners (Megan) as she answered questions and provided information and great local recommendations to make our stay enjoyable. Thanks as well to Clara, a local contact that made our arrival and departure at the property easy.

We hope to someday return to this beautiful property and we highly recommend it to others.

Ein Traum wurde wahr!

  • 5 of 5
