About this property

Cosy cottage in sleepy village yet only 5 minute drive to Truro city centre.

Riversmeet is overlooking the stunning river and creek side views, close to the local family friendly pub and parks. You’ll love this place because of the tranquil location and cosy cottage feel with beautiful views yet being only 2km from the city centre. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, families (with kids), and furry friends (pets). The property is for your sole use throughout your stay.
The downstairs is open plan to include the lounge and kitchen. There is a table that opens up for 4 places with 4 dining room chairs. An under stairs cupboard provides coat hooks, handy storage space for you and cleaning items if you need them. The lounge area has a pair of matching two seater sofa's surrounding the open wood burner and TV and DVD player. There are also books, DVD's, music system and boardgames for your enjoyment. The kitchen is fully equipped for your cooking needs. Upstairs the front bedroom has spectacular views of the river, the double bed and a large integral wardrobe. The other bedroom has two deluxe single beds, French doors and a full-length mirror with clothes hanging space. Both rooms have a large chest of drawers to keep your clothes in. The spacious bathroom is located between the two bedrooms which has a bath with shower, sink, toilet, heated towel rail and a cupboard with full length mirror. The cottage is fully carpeted upstairs, including the stairs, apart from the tiled floor bathroom. Downstairs is tiled with a plush rug in the seated area of the lounge and a hardwearing mat in the kitchen. There is a tiered garden at the back of the property that can be accessed by the kitchen door or by walking around the end terrace cottage. The top tier of the garden boasts panoramic views of the beautiful river with an enclosed decking area, seating and bbq.
There is communal access around the terrace of cottages and a large tiered private garden for Riversmeet at the back of the property. This can be accessed by the kitchen door or by walking around the end terrace cottage. The top tier of the garden boasts panoramic views of the beautiful river with an enclosed decking area, seating and bbq. There is free parking on the road in front of the property and 8 steps up to the front 'stable' door with a small patio for a chair and some potted plants.

Place by the River
Lovely property, convenient for Truro and very close to the lovely Heron pub. I had my 90 year old mother with me so the steps into the property were a bit of a challenge, particularly the step over the threshold. The stairs within the house were also steep, but she managed ok. Well equipped and tastefully decorated. I tried to contact the owner and was unsuccessful, which would have been a concern if anything had happened. Left a message on the VRBO site and telephoned the number in the folder of the housekeeper, but received no reply to my messages.

Could be great but..
The host was gracious and the location was nice. The Heron Inn a two-minute walk away was awesome. Day trips from there to Cornwall were great. This was the sixth VRBO in the UK we stayed at in the last few weeks. In comparison, if cleanliness is important, then this would not be a good choice. We felt compelled to clean as soon as we arrived and even then a deep clean would be required. We found that the pictures on the website were misleading in terms of cleanliness. If you are looking for a place that welcomes pets, then this might be just right for you. Parking is included but can be challenging as there is only limited street parking and no assigned spot. We let the host know of our concerns with the level of cleaning and she kindly refunded our cleaning fee.

Fantastic spot
We really enjoyed our stay. Location is great for exploring Cornwall with the added benefit of being on the river and having the fantastic views. The roof terrace view is one of the best views across the river fal that I’ve seen and I’ve been going to Cornwall for a decade. We had a rib for three days and moored it in Malpas Marina a v short walk from the house. House was slightly larger than I expected from the photos. Everything works as it should and beds were comfy, shower pressure reasonable, condiments and facilities all good. Parking was okay. We had two cars and could always find a spot along the road within a minutes walk. Pub is great, neighbours really friendly. All in all a great trip. The owls in woods around the river were a delight as was spotting an osprey (twice) fishing near the marina. Thank you to the host for being easily contacted for any questions and resolving a minor issue so rapidly.

Outdated apartment
The apartment does not correspond to the online description. The inventory is old and shabby. The garden cannot be used because it is prevented. Due to the location on a slope, there is no protection and it is very dangerous for children. Parking is difficult due to the lack of parking spaces. the positives are that it's quiet and you have a nice view of the river.

About the host

I am enjoying my retirement in Truro and have lots of interests keeping me busy. I am creative and arty. My daughter and grandchildren live nearby and I help out whenever needed. My daughter also helps me manage Riversmeet. I fell in love with Riversmeet when I first looked around it. It's a quaint cottage but it still feels airy and spacious. The modern tiled, open plan design downstairs with wood burner helps this feeling. Upstairs is also newly decorated and carpeted.

Why they chose this property

The sleepy village of Malpas belies an undercurrent of activity and is a popular dwelling for locals. There is a lovely family pub, community centre, ferry and a strong, resident spirit where many village activities are organised. There is a beautiful creek side view which all the residents can benefit from as their properties all face the river. There is no through road which significantly reduces the traffic in Malpas and a delightful countryside walk to the nearby village of St Clements.

What makes this property unique

The close proximity to the family, local pub means cooking is not a necessity when on holiday. There is a ferry outside Riversmeet which takes you to Falmouth and St Mawes for the National Maritime museum, 'Ships and Castle' swimming pool and gym, castles, fish and chips, many lovely pubs, beaches and shops. The lovely Boscawen park with tennis courts, new play area, football pitches, cricket club, duck pond, restaurant is half a mile away. Truro city is a 2 minute car journey or bus ride away with plenty of shops and restaurants to try out. The cinema, theatre, museum, bowling alley can all be found there.
