About this property

Luxury Grade II Listed Georgian Farmhouse Set In Extensive Gardens

Set in a sheltered valley among the rolling hills two miles inland from Slapton Sands, a little further to the popular Blackpool Sands, Buckland House is an elegant Grade II listed Georgian farmhouse built sometime before 1750 and largely rebuilt in the Regency style as a gentleman farmer's residence in 1860. The house has received a complete restoration to a very high standard and now includes a conservatory overlooking the ponds and gardens with a view towards Dartmoor. Offering high quality accommodation for two or more families, tastefully furnished in keeping with the period of property, this lovely family home offers an opportunity to enjoy a holiday in comfortable surroundings. The entrance porch leads to the main hall, off which are the principal reception rooms. The south-facing sitting room has a traditional Georgian feel, with dual aspect windows that overlook the formal gardens. A second sitting room - the red room is a little smaller and often used by the younger guests for alternative TV programmes or games. A wood-panelled den with Bar billiards leads to the large conservatory overlooking the rear garden and ponds. The large slate flag floored traditional farmhouse kitchen has a door to the south facing patio and garden. A ground floor studio apartment with small self contained kitchen area and en-suite shower-room with views over the duck pond and orchard with a door to the rear patio which overlooks the ponds ; also access from the conservatory. Large shallow staircase leading to a landing with an original Victorian curved stained glass window with views over the countryside. Upstairs there are 6 bedrooms, 2 with en-suites and a family bathroom.
The House can be let together with neighbouring cottages for celebrations and weddings.
An area in the garden can be used to erect a marquee for special occasions seating up to 80 persons.

Fantastic holidays
We truly enjoyed staying in the beautiful farmhouse. The weather wasn't great, so all the more important that we had a lot of space inside.

Large family gathering
Comms were great prior to arrival Property was ideal for large family gathering + 2 dogs - plenty of space, with very large enclosed front garden Location is two miles from the beach - roads are very narrow thru Slapton village

A perfect house for a large gathering
A really wonderful property, very spacious and an amazing garden and grounds. Plenty of room for everyone to eat together and the games room provided lots of entertainment. A perfect location to see South Devon and visit some beaches and neighbouring pretty towns. Richard was brilliant with his communication. I’d highly recommend this property.

Family get together
A bit surprised when I came across lots of dead small flies in conservatory on window sill. Lots of room for everyone. Good place for a family get together. Certain areas could do with some attention, but overall, a good experience.

Ideal for families with children
It was very spacious. It does need updating, but having said that we didn’t have to keep telling kids “don’t touch “ the only criticism is that there is a distinct lack of mirrors with electric sockets nearby.

I am Richard Smith
I live in England our children having now grown up. I spend most of my spare time & holidays at Buckland, where the family enjoy developing the house, cottages & garden to improve the holidaying experience for our guests. The large gardens are a joy to work in with some unusual plants due to the very warm summers with mild winters.
We have really fallen in love with the South Hams

Why they chose this property

Having holidayed here as a teenager, learning to sail and canoe on the river Dart my wife and I wanted to have a holiday base in the area for our young family. We looked to create a family friendly holiday home and first bought property at Buckland in 1988.
The areas beauty and opportunities for youngsters to enjoy water sports together with the pace of life in the South Hams convinced us this was the right place.
It is a joy working to improve the house and develop the large gardens and so we have plenty of experience in holidaying with young children and looking after guests!

What makes this property unique

If you are looking for a friendly holiday home to enjoy with your extended family in a quite rural environment yet close to the coast & Dartmoor then Buckland House is the place for you.
We are able to provided extended accommodation within our neighbouring cottages for special occasions, celebrations and weddings.

With the many visitor attractions close by suitable for young and old and a huge variety of things to do this area suits all ages.
