The Cathedral cities of Ripon and York, together with Ilkley and its famous moor also lie within easy reach and a visit is sure to make a memorable addition to any holiday. Close by are the pretty dales towns of Pateley Bridge, Grassington and Skipton offering a true traditional taste of ‘life in the Dales’. Tourist attractions in the area include Stump Cross Caverns, the Duke of Devonshires sporting estate at Bolton Abbey, the world heritage site of Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal, the National Trust’s Brimham Rocks, or the famous RHS Harlow Carr Gardens. After a fun day exploring the area or just relaxing in the peace and quiet, you may wish to enjoy afternoon tea in the famous ‘Betty’s Tearooms’ – a real ‘Yorkshire’ treat!

Restful Retreat
Turning into the drive, we were met with daffodils, sheep and lambs - calm, relaxing. Then, entering the cottage we were met with fresh scones and a lovely welcome hamper. After a day out exploring we enjoyed sitting by the log burner with a glass of wine. There are easy walks from the door, convenient for quality shops in Harrogate with many historic sites nearby. Andy and Sue were excellent hosts, keen to ensure we had everything we needed. Will hopefully return on future visits from Canada.

What a great cottage, large and very comfortable. I can honestly say that this was a perfect place to stay. The cottage was spotlessly clean and spacious. The owners Sue and Andy were very welcoming and friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. Would definitely recommend. Tony and Sue Southend-on-Sea.

About the host

Hosted by Andy & Sue Murtagh

Host profile image
Andy, Sue, their 2 children and pet spaniel all live at Yates House in Nidderdale. Though we are not farmers, we love the rural life and are surrounded by beautiful farm land and moor. Yates Cottage sits in our grounds, overlooking pasture, a small lake and the valley beyond. We take great pride in welcoming guests to both our cottage, but as importantly the surrounding area, which really holds something for everyone. When guests come to Yates cottage, we will do what we can to help them have a great holiday.

Why they chose this property

The cottage started life as a stable, being part of the original farm which dates back to the 1750's. Over the years, various owners have developed the stable into a single storey 2 bedroomed home. After we moved to Yates House in 2008, we decided to fully refurbish the cottage as a dedicated holiday let and the work was completed in 2011.

What makes this property unique

As it is within the grounds of our home, we naturally think it is ideally located for those who want to enjoy a rural retreat, but to be only 20 minutes in different directions from Harrogate, Ilkley, Skipton, Pateley Bridge, Grassington, Ripon and the many, many attractions they offer.
