16th Century Cottage Situated Opposite The Medieval Landgate Arch

Chesterfield Cottage is a charming 16th century cottage, located in the heart of the conservation area of ancient Rye. It is situated opposite the Landgate arch and is just minutes from the historic attractions, antique shops, art galleries, bars and restaurants that Rye has to offer.

The cottage has two bedrooms and can comfortably sleep 4. There is a double bedroom on the first floor and a second bedroom in the loft that has two small (2ft6") singles.

The bedrooms and bathroom of the cottage are accessed via steep spiral staircases which may not be suitable for the elderly or very young. There is also a small step between the lounge and kitchen.

Chesterfield Cottage
Location is everything, and this property is in the charming heritage protected village of Rye with easy access to buses and the local train station for travel to the South Downs and other centres. As well, there is local shopping for all your needs so one can easily get around without a car.

Wonderful property
We loved our stay at this cottage. Communication was timely and accurate. Check in was easy. The cottage was clean and bright and the bed and linens were very comfortable. The kitchen was adequately supplied. The town of Rye is simply gorgeous and the cottage is located in the old town, making it ideally located to explore the cobble stone streets and enjoy the many great pubs. Highly recommend.

A brilliant place to stay in the centre of Rye so everywhere is walkable. Very very old so you can’t expect perfection. Top tip is to use the Rope Walk car park at £2.50 for 24 hours, pay for you full stay upfront but don’t go for a drive out at the weekend and expect to be able to find a space when you come back unless it’s in the evening. We would definitely stay there again!

Charming and cosy ancient cottage, perfect location
The listing for this charming cottage describes it perfectly; this is a delightful place in the heart of Rye and perfect for exploring this lovely town. One of the best restaurants in the town and the outright best pub in town (in our humble opinion), are just a few doors down the street. This cosy cottage was perfect for my wife and I; and easily accommodated my sister too when she joined us for a few days of our stay. The small kitchen is very well equipped and there's a pleasant and peaceful walled garden out back. The host was friendly and helpful, sending us maps and information about the city and preparing the lovely attic room (great views) for my sister's visit. There is 2-hour parking right outside the cottage, convenient for loading and unloading people and things, and very cheap 24-hour parking just around the corner

Chesterfield Cottage is owned by my partner Chris and myself.

Chris works in the print industry and I work in the IT/Finance industries.

Why they chose this property

We had been escaping to Rye from our busy lives in London for years, purchasing Chesterfield Cottage in 2010. After some extensive renovations to the kitchen and bathroom we have been using it as our home away from home, to relax and recharge our batteries.

There is always something going on in the town and local area, amazing beaches, walks and quiet roads to cycle.

What makes this property unique

The cottage is perfectly placed to enjoy the tea rooms, antique shops, pubs and restaurants that Rye has to offer.
