This is a new second VRBO OFFERING:

The Grand Traverse Region is one of the TOP PLACES TO VISIT! Originally known as the cherry capital of the world, it is now home to numerous vineyards and wineries, miles and miles of pristine shoreline, nationally recognized events--such as the National Cherry Festival, the Michael Moore Film Festival and the distinction of being the Most Beautiful Place in America (our Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore). Trek to the shopping district in downtown Traverse City for an unforgettable treat. Explore the many beautiful wineries and understand...the Michigan Craft Brew scene is happening HERE! Check out the multitude of local breweries and distilleries.

The home is nestled between Grand Traverse Bay, Elk Lake and Bass Lake. Elk Lake is your entry point to the “Chain of Lakes”, a 55+mile watershed of 14 interconnected lakes and rivers, including the infamous Torch Lake Sandbar. Rent a boat for the week from one of the many local marinas.

Within a 5 minute drive, you’ll find the $90 Million Turtle Creek Casino with gaming and nightlife and world renowned golf at the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa. The quaint village of Elk Rapids-with its many eclectic shops and beautiful riverfront is at your front door. Pearl’s Restaurant, a local favorite for New Orleans cuisine is an easy stroll away—don’t forget to order the 'Big Easy' Bloody Mary!

The world is your oyster here!! Your getaway can be a tranquility in paradise OR you can immerse yourself in the vibrant energy of this gorgeous place we call, "Up North".

My concept is to provide you a home away from home. The idea is to pull up, drop your bags and begin your perfect vacation!

The home has an open floor plan with a well appointed kitchen suitable for entertaining. The master bedroom: Sleeps 2 on a King Bed

The living room: Sleeps 2 on a sofa sleeper--with a feather top mattress.

The bedrooms and bath are outfitted with linens, soaps, and general toiletries. The kitchen is stocked with dishes, stemware, utensils...everything you could possibly need.

Every effort will be made to ensure you have an amazing and memorable vacation. Reserve your space today!

About Sally Akerley

This is my second vrbo property : )

I grew up in this area and admittedly...I can't bear to leave it. There is no substitute for the beauty and level of activity that this area affords.

Sally Akerley purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Sally Akerley chose Elk Rapids

I infuse life into old spaces : )

Originally, this was a bike and repair shop that, over the years, was converted to a rental unit. By the time it hit the market, it was in pretty desperate need of some TLC.

Fixing up this home was a labor of love. I lived here myself for a summer and enjoyed it so much!

I'm happy to share it with you!

What makes this cottage unique

A very nice getaway

  • 5 of 5

I loved that this cottage had a modern yet simple feel to it. It’s nice to be disconnected with no WiFi or TV, yet be steps from local shops and restaurants and have access to the lake down the street. The accommodations were nice. The smaller room with the twin bed did have a very odd smell, I think from a pest repellent. There was a minor ant problem in the bathroom, but that’s to be expected this time of year in Michigan and Sally was on top of it with extra traps under the sink. All in all, there’s everything you need for a simple weekend getaway!

Lovely place to relax, close to town!

  • 4 of 5

The cottage was absolutely charming. Very comfortable and accommodating! There was no TV or WiFi but there were books, games and kayaks for the lake a block away! Within walking distance of a Bass Lake, the grocery store, The Local breakfast and Kolu's dinner spot! We would definitly return.

Perfect, Cozy Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here with our 1-year-old son and we enjoyed every minute! The cottage was pristine and we had everything we needed to make the trip relaxing. Sally was quick to respond to any questions and clearly cares about her guests. I noticed in some reviews, people were upset that there was no television. I have to say, my husband and I talked more on this trip than we have in months. Not having a television was wonderful! We even sat up one night laughing instead of laying in bed watching a re-run. The only downside was the internet. I needed to work over this trip and the internet access is the public wi-fi provided by the grocery store across the street. The connection is not secure so I did not feel comfortable accessing my customer's sensitive information. Also, the connection is really spotty. All in all, not a huge deal, but it was difficult to find a place where I could complete my work. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Perfect in every way

  • 5 of 5

Excellent location - close to everything we needed for a nearby family reunion. Walking distance to restaurants, grocery and Elk Rapids. Short drive to Traverse and all that the area has to offer. Cottage was meticulously clean with plenty of space for a small family. Owner Sally was super responsive and even left a bowl of fruit and some drinks in the fridge. Will definitely be looking to the Carriage House for future visits to the area and have recommended it to family that visits there as well. No trouble connecting to public wifi at Village Market when we needed it.

Economical accommodations for this great area of Michigan!

  • 4 of 5

Great location to walk to Elk Rapids and local restaurants. Able to ride our bikes in the neighborhoods as well as the many paved trails in the area. Great King bed and linens. Good hot water shower! Needs a dresser --maybe second bedroom for clothes? Clean and nicely decorated. 1/2 hr to Traverse City, 40 min to Charlevoix.

Perfect location

  • 5 of 5

We loved the bed, the decor, the living room, the kitchen stove, which was gas (much better than electric). My husband was able to bake bread in the oven. We loved the apples and the coffee in the cupboard. The supermarket was right across the street. Perfect to walk there on the first morning to get some milk. We enjoyed running out the door to run around the cute town of Elk Lake.
