About Vicki Burton

I moved to France with my husband in 2012 and rented for a while until we were sure this was the right thing to do. The kids had left home and the dog died so as they say, nothing to stop you from starting a new adventure - and here we are.

Vicki Burton purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Vicki Burton chose Benest

We explored different areas and viewed trillions of properties until we decided on this place. Accessible by car from the uk ports and well served by budget airlines and its a very lovely part of the world. I feel blessed to live in such a lovely place.

What makes this cottage unique

Very quiet and peaceful apart from the sound of the occasional tractor and the local bird population. Owls are my favorite and of course the cranes make their bi-annual crossing overhead signalling the start and end of summer. Really amazing. Woodpeckers and hoopoes are frequent visitors and red squirrels are also resident which make me ridiculously happy.

At night, the stars are wonderfully bright as there is no light pollution.

A true rural idyll away from the hustle and bustle should you need to recharge your batteries and just chill whilst remaining close enough to the nearby towns for necessities and local markets.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Le Logis is a fantastic retreat in an ideal location. We stayed there while house hunting in the area. If we find a house as lovely as this then my dreams of living in rural France will have come true.

A lovely rustic but modern Gite with everything you would wish for. Having free wifi available also helped with our house searching.

Loved Le Logis. Stayed there in January this year. Was cosy, comfortable and a wonderful hideaway in the beautiful French countryside.

I stayed at Le Logis over the New Year period and I thought it was just fantastic. This gite has everything I wanted. It's own entrance leads into a beautiful room with wood burner and lovely brand new fully equipped kitchen - I loved cooking in it - it had everything I could possibly have needed. The bedroom was spacious - comfortable bed and en suite bathroom with fantastic shower. This is the perfect Gite for a quiet getaway in rural France - I have already rebooked! ROBERT SCOTT

We had a magical week

  • 5 of 5

Even when the weather was damp/misty we were so happy to stay indoors sitting at the window looking over the garden. It was so quiet we spent a long time listening to the birds and watching the cows, it could not have been a better location all the walks were great and I enjoyed walking and sitting in the garden. The large room and large bedroom are so well furnished; decorated and the attention to detail was a joy. The welcoming fruit and wine were a wonderful way to start stay and it was good to meet Vicky and her husband . We would certainly return. Carole and Ian from London june 2018

Tranquil getaway with all the mod cons and boutique comfort

  • 5 of 5

Wow wow what a fabulous place and hosts. Our 'gite' was excellent, I miss it already and we only left this morning! So quiet and tranquil with all the mod cons and beautifully decorated. Vicki has a great information pack on the local area and freesat TV so you get all the UK channels you need. We caught the ferry from Portsmouth and drove down from St Malo. We went with our 8 month old and she loved it. No wonder they get so much repeat business, we will 100% be back again.

Our best ever holiday!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Le Logis for three weeks in August 2017 with our Chocolate Loabrador, Elsa. The gite was fantastic with everything we could ever wish for; all mod cons, with superbly appointed living area, bedroom and shower room. The outside living area was lovely with plenty of space with several seating areas and lawns, sun loungers and a barbecue. The views from the gite both inside and out were lovely with good access to suitable walks. It was so peaceful, a wonderful place to relax and chill out. Our hosts, Vicki and Gregor, were so welcoming, there if we needed them but not intrusive. There was always a welcome and regular supply of fresh vegetables from Gregor and Vicki's marmalade was delicious! Le Logis is an ideal spot for exploring the Charente area of France. We definitely hope to be back very soon.

Another fantastic week in a superb gite!

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from another really enjoyable week staying at Le Logis. The gite has absolutely everything you would ever need (and more). Vicky and Gregor were great hosts and were able to help us when we had a problem with the car, in recommending a local garage. The garden is beautiful, along with the views, and there was another wonderful addition this time of a "romantic" shelter / hut at the end of the garden with plenty of candles - perfect to end the evening with a glass or two of Pineau de Charente (or gin)! The facilities available in the gite are just perfect and the attention to detail and little touches really do make for a great holiday. The location is fantastic too, and you are not too far to venture out to various towns and cities - we visited Poitiers, Angouleme, Ruffec, Civray, Piegut Pluviers and many other small towns and villages, and enjoyed plenty of time people watching in the local market squares and enjoying a strong coffee. There is so much beauty on your doorstep and a walk into the local village of Benest will take approx. 30 minutes, where you can stop at the bar for a drink or pick up an essential baguette for breakfast. Thank you again for a lovely, relaxing week and for your hospitality - we are sure to return. Highly recommended.

Superb gite in a wonderful location

  • 5 of 5

This is an extremely well-appointed gite with great facilities inside and out. The garden is private and has a number of lovely areas for sitting in the sun or in the shade. Inside, the accommodation is exceptionally comfortable with a very well-equipped modern kitchen. The setting is very rural and peaceful - ideal for a relaxing week in France. The proprietor, Vicki, is nearby and is both helpful and discreet.

The only downside to staying here is that you have to leave. Vicki is a wonderful host, attentive yet discreet.

The gite is fitted out to a very high standard with every need catered for. If you enjoy cooking, you won't want for anything in the kitchen. There is an ample supply of crockery so you can take advantage of the dishwasher without running out of plates etc.

The garden is beautiful and there are seating areas dotted around the garden so, should you wish, you can follow the sun from dawn 'til dusk.

From reading the description, looking at the photos and reading the comments left by other guests, I expected Le Logis to be good but it was more than that, it was first class.

And, even though we are planning to buy a house in the area, I would still go to Vicki's place for a holiday! I only wish we could have stayed longer. Thank you Vicki, you've got it just right.
