About this property

Light, airy 1st Floor Apartment with delightful views over bay and Purbeck Hills

Close to the town, beach and coastal path, this flat is peaceful and full of light with different sea, hill and beach views to enjoy from each room. The furnishings are comfortably modern with colourful rugs. The flat consists of two 'wings' (with a kitchen you can eat in, a large sitting room, and bedroom) - this unusual orientation makes it very spacious and brings the sun in all the day and year round. Central heating makes it cosy in the winter. The position is perfect for those who want to set off along the SW coastal path or Purbeck Way, take the steam train to Corfe Castle, or spend the day on the beach then retreat to the peace and quiet of Barnacles before trying the many pubs and eating places in town. Between Swanage and Lulworth the coastal scenery is dramatic and craggy with beaches and old stone quarries. Swanage also has a variety of festivals including Purbeck Art Weeks Festival at the end of May, the popular Jazz Festival in July, the Purbeck International Chamber Music Festival in early September, and the famous Purbeck Film Festival in October.
PLEASE NOTE that from June 1 - Sept 14 I prefer minimum bookings of one week (7 nights). At other times the minimum stay is 3 nights. Hiowever, I am open to alternative requests and will help out if I can.

Barnacles
Barnacles is a delightful flat overlooking Swanage Bay. Immaculate and comfortable. It's an ideal location for exploring this amazing area with it's coastal walks, Country Park, historical places like Corfe Castle and Swanage itself

Wow - views to die for
We had a really relaxing stay in Swanage. Despite what the weather wanted to throw at us we had lots of walks on the door step we could do. The apartment is situated at the top of a slight hill which gives you views out of 4 out of 5 windows. Charlotte has been really cleaver and provided sitting areas so you can enjoy the views of sea and rolling hills. I would say the only concern I had was that the property keys had to be posted to us, which I have never experienced before. With the post the way it is now this did mean a slight panic as they hadn't turned up and we only had a couple of days before leaving - Charlotte did have a second plan if they didn't arrive in time. All other properties I have stayed in have a key safe set up. Not sure if this is something which could be looked into but it might not be possible due to the age of the property. Lost of the restaurants/pubs were fully booked during our stay in March so I would highly recommend you try and book a table sooner rather than later if you want to eat out. Enjoy you stay in Swanage

Lovely place in Swanage
This is a wonderful flat within close proximity of the main town. It's just far enough to be quiet and close enough to be near everything. The flat is well laid out and had everything there that you would need. It's well heated (we stayed in February) and the parking space is a bonus although the local roads had spaces. The flat is up a steep hill so if you struggle with that then this isn't the place for you but for a normally able person is not an issue. The views from the main rooms are stunning, you can see the beach from the bedroom and the lounge has a view across the bay. The flat is tastefully decorated with interesting artworks throughout. Bathroom has a full size bath and a shower over with good quality towels. Bed is huge and again has good quality bed linen fitted. Flat was beautifully clean; thoroughly recommended.

Soon after I retired from the Department for International Development in 2012, we were lucky enough find this long dreamt of toe hold in Purbeck. In addition to just enjoying being here, I'm fully involved in Purbeck Art Weeks Festival and the International Chamber Music Festival. I started out life studying music (cello), then changed tack and went to Camberwell College of Art in London to do a textiles degree. I started out as a self-employed weaver - then went to the Middle East where I spent several years working with Bedouin weavers in Oman and the Negev in Israel, and have since worked in all sorts of interesting places. My home is in Highbury, London with my partner Oded - and spending time in Barnacles and Swanage continues to give us, particularly me, a huge amount of pleasure! I hope you enjoy it too.

Why they chose this property

My family have been connected to the Kimmeridge area since the early 1900's, and I have been coming down here since I was born in 1952. What particularly appealed to us about this property were the different views of the sea and hills from each room, the light pouring into the flat all day, and the fact that the sea, cliffs of Peveril Point and the coastal path are so close by. It's also quiet here, which is very important to us. And there's something special about a window seat! I love gardening so I got permission from Swanage Council to cultivate the verges around the house. The plants are becoming established and learning to protect themselves from the Swanage Council mowers and dogs! And I am learning to plant things that can manage for long periods without being watered. Please feel free to water the tubs of geraniums if you feel like it! Salvias do well - which I love. You will see some unusual glass work in the flat too made by Oded.

What makes this property unique

I can't imagine ever being bored here - each season has its own interest - for photography, collecting drift wood, reading, observing, birds, walking, exploring, drawing - or simply watching the changing light across the sea and hills. After coming to the area for so many years it's a pleasure to know that it remains easy to get away from the 'crowds' - which in any case are never very big here even in August. And if you want to enjoy being here plus films, art or music (classical, jazz, blues or chamber music) and walking during the dy, then it's an ideal combination. There's also the Mowlem Theatre in Swanage that show films on a regular basis, with occasional live shows. Other than that the area is one of the most beautiful areas full of dramatic or quiet coastal walks, and large areas of natural heathland and of course the fabulous RSPB reserve at Arne.
