About this property

Farmhouse With Secluded Garden, Private Heated Pool And Magnificent Rural Views

A picturesque traditional French farmhouse in a small hamlet with secluded garden set in glorious countryside. The house is at the end of the lane which then turns into a grass track through fields and copses so no traffic. Perfect for those searching a peaceful rural retreat but with plenty of nearby attractions within a short drive. It is less than 2 km from the village where there is a shop selling bread and snacks freshly made on the premises. It is also only a few minutes drive from a village with 2 boulangeries, general store, chemist, bar and restaurants and a 20 minutes from several large supermarkets.

The kitchen is spacious with seating for 8, fully equipped and leads into the lounge with large comfortable sofas and log burner. Stairs lead up to two spacious bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. Downstairs are two more bedrooms each with French windows giving direct access to the garden and pool. One of the downstairs bedrooms has an en-suite bathroom. There is also a fourth shared bathroom with shower downstairs.

The garden is totally private but has great views over the surrounding countryside. Climbing roses cover the walls of the house and within the garden is a small orchard with cherry, plum and fig tree, several shady spots and hideaways as well as a gravelled parking area and a separate area where you can play pétanque or table tennis.

Roman steps lead into the heated private 9mx4m salt-water pool which is of uniform depth and is equipped with an alarm. There are 6 sun-loungers for sun-bathing round the pool. There is also a raised terrace overlooking the pool with a large table with seating for 8, parasols and a built-in BBQ.

And if you don't feel like cooking in the evening, you can take a 15 minute walk through country lanes to a nearby auberge and have a delicious meal made with local products. Then stroll back as the sun sets, light the pool for a final dip or just lie back on one of our loungers and watch the stars drift by in a clear night sky.

Beautiful house in a peaceful position
We arrived on a very hot evening and upon opening the gates we were greeted with the most beautiful gardens, pool and view of the fields behind. The house had everything you could wish for with comfortable beds and good showers. The bbq and eating area are lovely and the pool had 6 comfortable loungers. Josie and Mark, who look after the property, live in Puylagarde and are happily on hand for any questions you may have. Thank you for a wonderful stay. We hope to be back again soon!

Beautiful and well equipped farmhouse.
This really is a beautiful home. You can see the love and attention that has gone into it. Everything is of high quality and exceeded our expectations. Although it appears to a popular holiday rental you can tell the owners have renovated this property with real passion and all furnishings and fittings, great and equipment are good quality. The grounds are not extensive but are sufficient and very prettily set out amongst the ruins of the outbuildings with various seating areas. The pool is a good size and is evidently heated but we found it a little cold despite using the cover every night. There are boules, table tennis table and various inflatables etc. We did have a problem with a smelly upstairs bathroom and we made the caretaker aware of this although he never did turn up to fix it. The situation is very rural but there are many nice trips out and is close to supermarkets and many nice marked routes to explore directly from the property (we travelled with our dog). The info pack put together by the owner is excellent by the way. Overall though we loved our stay and would recommend without hesitation.

Beautiful house with wonderful views
We had an amazing holiday in this beautiful farmhouse, staying here with our 3 kids, mother-in-law and our dog. The views are stunning and we enjoyed the pool, which is very pleasant and at a nice temperature. My 87 year old mother-in-law even went for a swim here! We also really liked this area, which is not as touristy as for example the Dordogne but just as beautiful. The check in process was made easy by the housekeepers and when somehow our internet didn't seem to work on the first day they immediately came over and fixed the problem. There were flowers and wine upon arrival which made us feel very welcome. Before our stay I emailed back and forth with Shelby about arranging a taxi for the airport for part of our group and she responded right away and made sure a very nice lady in a taxi came to pick us up on the last day. Thank you! The house is very romantic and the garden is huge. Our dog could just run free, since the property is entirely fenced. She had the best time! (although our dog did have an encounter with a poisonous toad, perhaps an idea to include a general warning on this in the information book? For us city people this was a new experience...;)) The living room and two bedrooms downstairs are very nice and stay cool, even when it's very hot. Upstairs this is a bit more difficult, since the rooms here are straight underneath the roof. But with the provided fans it worked out just fine. The kitchen has everything you need and the pantry provided even more space. We didn't use the TV so can't say anything about this. If I would have to say one negative thing, it would be the bathroom in one of the upstairs bedrooms. There was a bad odour there so we didn't use it. Instead we used the other bathrooms (there are 4 bathrooms in the house!) I think it's hard to change since this is an authentic farmhouse and there is not a lot of circulation, but I want to be honest and it doesn't smell good. But also honestly, on the whole this was such a minor detail on a perfect holiday that I still give 5 stars for everything. Thank you!!!

About the host

We have lived in a city for most of our lives but have always yearned for a secluded peaceful place in the countryside where we could take the family, as far away as possible from traffic and the hassle it entails.
We finally found the house which fulfils all those criteria and more. No cars pass our house except those of the local farmer. Yet there are scores of things to do within a short drive.

Why they chose this property

The house is in the beautiful Tarn-et-Garonne area of south west France. It benefits from a near Mediterranean climate and whether it's walking or biking through the lush green countryside, ambling through medieval villages, visiting the many bustling farmers' markets, fishing or canoeing through rapids, you will not be at a loss for something to do. The area is well-known for its gastronomic specialities such as truffles, duck and goose delicacies, mushrooms, white garlic, Reine-Claude plums, Quercy melons, Moissac cherries, saffron and chestnuts. You can also visit local producers by foot from our house - see the Gascon pigs lazing in the woods or watch the goats being milked to make Rocamadour cheese.

The lovely medieval towns of Villefranche-de-Rouergue (22km) & St Antonin Noble Val (24km) both have large markets which rival any in France. There are also several beautiful hilltop towns nearby: Najac (20 km), St Cirq-LaPopie (27km) & Cordes sur Ciel (40km) as well as the famous capital of the Tarn - Albi (64km).

What makes this property unique

The great attraction of this property is that it enables us to have a lovely secluded base far from any traffic and yet have numerous interesting places and local markets to visit within a short drive. Plus a range of sporting activities for all the family from swimming, pétanque and table tennis at the property itself or walking, biking, canoeing, horse-riding, fishing in the local area.
