Happy hols in the Hams
Lovely break in Cowrie Cottage. 5 mins down to Ferry and 10 mins to Mill Bay beach. A great 90 min loop down to East Portlemouth/Mill Bay and along SW Coastal path to Gara Rock and then easy route back downhill through the forest back to Mill Bay. 5 mins to ferry too to access Salcombe. Access is down steep hill so think about what you pack for the trip/beach. Enjoy your visit!

Fantastic cottage, fabulous location
We’ve just returned from a two week stay at Cowrie Cottage. After many happy holidays around the South Hams, we feel we’ve found the accommodation and location which suits us best. The cottage is cosy, clean, well equipped and most importantly – is in a terrific location for coastal walks, fine views of the estuary and close proximity to Salcombe. The Owner’s recommendations in the ‘unique benefits’ section below are spot on – additionally the Britannia @ The Beach ‘Fish Shack’, Beesands and the Winking Prawn, North Sands, Salcombe should not be missed. The food at the Millbrook Inn, South Pool is awesome. We’ll be back!

Cowrie Cottage has been the Knowles family holiday home since 1963. It has been a wonderful place for the family to get together and for the cousins to keep in touch. We all have wonderful memories of evenings sitting on the terrace with a glass of wine with the children playing safely in the surrounding gardens.
4 siblings have taken over looking after the cottage & rent it when the family are not there.
After much deliberation the family recently invested in updating the cottage, we are all now completely delighted with its new warmth, comfort and facilities and feel it offers everything you could need for your English coastal holiday.

Why they chose this property

Originally from Surrey the family first came to Salcombe as children in the 1930’s and 1940’s (a 2 day drive in the days before the motorways!). After years of staying in various rental properties and camping, a family cottage was purchased in 1963 by the owners Mother and Aunt. The Cottage was bought “lock stock and barrel” with all the furniture included and many happy years followed!
One of the owners loved it so much they are now living in East Portlemouth!
The village is small and friendly, we love taking our morning coffee up to the seats just above the cottage to sit, looking at the stunning view and watching the world go by - and all the boats coming and going.
The cottage is simply perfect for families or anyone looking for peace and quiet in beautiful surroundings.

What makes this property unique

The things we love most are....
Taking the dogs for a pre breakfast walk around the coast to Gara Beach and sitting in the Lookout Cafe overlooking the ocean, sipping wine on the terrace whilst the children run around playing Murder in the Dark!
Driving the boat up to the MillBrook Arms in Southpool for an evening drink, a pint or two in the Pigs Nose in East Prawle, Sunday lunch at The Cricket Inn at Beesands.
Writing your name in the sand before the Salcombe tourists arrive! Playing and surfing in the sea at low tide by the Hipple, crossing to Salcombe in the ferry for a Salcombe Dairy ice cream, watching the racing sitting overlooking the water in the Ferry Inn, buying lobster from the local fishermen, crab fishing on Victoria Quay and so much more...
