About this property

Victorian Old Coach House With Superking Master Bedroom suite and Tennis Court.

The Coach House is a unique detached former Coach House, set within the grounds of our home at The Old Vicarage. Surrounded by open fields, woodland, with fabulous views to the Marlborough Downs, perfect for long walks and total relaxation. The huge living space (30ft x 16ft), with kitchen area at one end, wood burning stove at the other; comfy sofas and chairs to relax in, table and chairs for dining. An enormous glass window replaces the original entrance allowing the sun to flood the room with light and enhance the view of the original cobbled court yard. Downstairs there is also a study room with single French day bed; separate loo & stone sink. The huge Master bedroom with Superking size double bed, en-suite bathroom and French windows opening onto balcony. Large twin bedroom with en-suite shower/wet room also with balcony. Lie in bed, watch the sunrise and in the evening, the moon appear over the beautiful Wiltshire countryside.
The property is ideally situated near the Georgian City of Bath with all it's stunning architecture, history, wonderful shops and restaurants including the famous Polly Lunn Tea Rooms, one of the oldest buildings in Bath. The National Trust Village of Lacock is a ten minute drive where you can visit the Fox Talbot Photography Museum and the Abbey where scenes from Harry Potter were filmed. Lacock was also the location for films including Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, and the ever popular television series Downton Abbey to name but a few. The George Inn dates back to 1361 and has a wonderful open log fire as does the Red Lion. The ancient English Heritage Sites of Stonehenge and Avebury are within striking distance and not to be missed. Our local market town of Devizes is home to the Caen Hill flight of canal locks, the longest in the country as well as a beautiful market square which hosts a weekly market and monthly Farmers Market as well as some unique pubs and shops.
Bowood House, set in gardens designed by Capability Brown, with its' International Golf Course and renowned children's Adventure play ground is only a few minutes drive and the medieval Great Chalfield Manor and gardens another delight. While staying at The Coach House, guests can enjoy use of the tennis court, relax by the outdoor pool set within it's own walled garden, and make use of the BBQ and outdoor eating area.

Relaxing Week Away
We booked the week away at the last minute, and had a wonderful relaxing week staying at the Coach House. Fiona and Matthew were great hosts, and were really hospitable. Nothing was to much for them to ensure we had a perfect stay. Our two dogs were also made to feel at home, which was great. The area is great for walking and we especially loved the canal and picturesque walks. Great local pubs serving good food, There are lots of pretty villages to visit and we would recommend Castle Combe, Bradford upon Avon and Lacock. We would love to visit again. Jeanne and Kev

Perfect family break
Lovely property with plenty to do on site - tennis, swimming, table tennis, pool table and lots of nice walks (we spotted rabbits, pheasant, hare, deer, birds of prey). Picturesque villages within 20 min drive, Bath 40 mins away. We were spoilt for things to do. Relaxed, accommodating hosts. Perfect holiday - thank you!

Peaceful!
We loved this property, we stayed for 3 nights, family of 4 and our dog (kids aged 11 and 13), the grounds are outstanding, such a beautiful surrounding, kids braved the pool which they loved and spent much time on the tennis court or playing pool! The beds were super comfortable, shower and bath really great. Adult dressing gowns a great little touch and a bottle of Prosecco in the fridge! The master bedroom is huge. The owner, Fiona, was away but kept checking on us via message. We ate at the local pub the Westbrooke which was outstanding food and service at a great price. We would 100% stay here again.

Excellent - ticked all the boxes!
Would highly recommend staying at The Coach House - it really did exceed our expectations. 5* all round! The property was perfect, and made all the better by the grounds it is situated upon, and the beauty of the surrounding countryside. The hosts were more than accommodating - we thoroughly enjoyed hearing of the property history and the story of how it became a holiday let. We were a group of friends, plus two dogs, all of which had a lovely time. Long walks on the doorstep, a games room & tennis court for fun, cosy lounge and huge bath to relax in… something for everyone! We will certainly be recommending to others and will definitely come back for a return visit! Thank you Dodson Family :-)

We have lived in Chittoe for 35 years and brought up our five children here! I am an enthusiastic cook and offer delicious home made cakes for tea on arrival, as well as a pot of jam hopefully made with fruit from the garden. Muffins are a particular favourite!

Why they chose this property

We bought the property in 1985 wanting to create my vision of a proper family home. Moving every two years or so as a child, hadn't given me 'wanderlust' but the desire to 'belong'. Our children have been so lucky to have been brought up in this idyllic countryside with ponies, chickens and sheep, plus my husbands lust for old tractors and machinery!

With the kids now largely grown up we decided to renovate the Coach House from being a work shop, tractor home and hay barn with tiny flat above to a more stylish set up. Our plans evolved as we went along with the original plans being done by our son now an engineer. With huge input from all members of the family we now have a wonderful property so others can also enjoy this idyllic location.

What makes this property unique

The views from the bedroom windows and balconies are spectacular. The property is set with in the grounds of our home and surrounded by open fields and woodland. Perfect for walking and biking. We offer use of our tennis court, repainted this year and the swimming pool which is to be re-lined March 2016..
It is also perfectly situated for visiting many ancient sites such as Avebury and Stonehenge; the Georgian City of Bath and towns such as our local town of Devizes with its' market square, unique shops, pubs and cafes as well as the famous canal and stunning Cane Hill flight of locks.
Bowood House offers an international Golf course and Spa as well as fabulous fine dining, only a couple of miles away.
