About this property

Beautifully Restored Barn; Combining Original Features & high tech for comfort

Dating back to 1663, our historic barn has been carefully converted to sleep four in a twin and kingsize double bedrooms. The comfortable self-catering accommodation is open plan, with views onto the downs beyond and a few minutes walk into the centre of Aldbourne, an attractive village with pubs and shops. The spacious interior leads onto a private terrace and path to off-road parking.

A blend of restored original features, and a carefully designed interior make this barn a really unusual and quirky place to stay! As you walk in you'll be surprised by height of the ceiling and the light playing through the funky lampshades... you'll see that downstairs Alma Barn is open plan incorporating a living room, dining area, fully equipped kitchen with a separate bathroom. Upstairs there are two mezzanine bedrooms, one with a double bed, the other with two twin beds. Lying in bed you'll get an amazing view of the incredible oak barn rafters and wind braces... enjoy the integrated Lutron light system with various settings, allowing you to regulate the mood. For the chillier times of the year, the Barn is kept lovely and warm by discrete underfloor heating which runs throughout.

Sheep often graze in the paddock adjoining the Barn, carefully watched by the red kites soaring above them - you can sit and watch from your own immediately accessible private terrace, ideal for that early morning coffee and croissant available from the excellent delicatessen in the village.

Wonderful stay in luxury barn
A very cozy space with a lot of comfort. Comfortable beds and cozy furnishings that make you feel right at home. The kitchen is simple, but everything you need is there. There is a terrace where you can sit outside with a view of the meadow. We stayed here with our 18-year-old daughter for a midweek and walked a lot in the area. Visited Bath. And enjoyed the small town of Aldbourne with a beautiful church from the 12th century where you can walk to and where there are two cozy pubs. At the Deli you can get delicious fresh bread.

Mrs
The barn was in a very nice village with a countryside view. Local people were friendly and there was a lovely deli come cafe. We went to the Battle proms at Highclere which I could recommend. This was only a short drive away.

Has a Wow factor
Quiet, Clean barn conversion. Small bathroom but very hot shower. Kitchen has what you need. Amazing lights at night. Charlie is very polite and respectful. Open plan and beds are very comfortable.

Beautiful but not practical
The barn is very well rénovâted, very much in style, lovely details. But a few things to mention: The bathroom is extremely small. Compared to the large surface of the barn. The bedrooms are open spaces so there is no privacy. And The tv could be changed in a smart tv. I guess for 750 pounds for 3 nights you may expect something. So really beautiful house but not practical.

Why they chose this property

Alma Barn is attached to the end of a cottage where the owners, the Elms family, have lived for nearly 30 years. In this time the barn has been used for horses, cattle and lambing before special listing permission was given to restore the barn to make a holiday let from 2012.
