About this property

Trullo della Luna typical farmhouse with exclusive pool 10x5 m

'Trullo della Luna' is an original 'casedda', the typical farmhouse with vaulted cones, now accurately restored with a wide exclusive swimming pool aside, it is the typical building house you can find in Valle d'Itria: it’s a classic four-cone rural trullo. Only the local peasants once used this type of building and now its shapes are appreciated by the entire world and are representative of this Italian region and its ancient culture. This area of Apulia is becoming a new-Chianti, a place where the nature fuses its beauty into the controlled, quiet human environment. I bought this trullo when it was completely abandoned. As I am an architect, I saw it as if its dry-stone blocks were the ruins of an ancient temple, and I have restored it with a great enthusiasm. My aim is to rent it for holiday stays and use it for my familiar purposes.
Renting this property, guests will obtain the exclusive use of the entire dwelling, the garden and the swimming pool for the agreed period.
_____________________________________
Let me point out the importance of this ancient rural architecture: I delighted to visit and study all the ancient ways of doing the trulli (trulli is the plural of trullo). I verified how all small constructive solutions are a concentration of popular wisdom.
The original cones are made without the use of any plaster and the craftsman who was committed to do this type of activity was always a specialised workman.
Nowadays there are only few specialists for doing all these details. I have funded the restoration of Trullo della Luna having clearly the aim to preserve all these aspects.

Approximately 20 km from trullo there is the Natural Reserve of Torre Guaceto, a stretch of uncontaminated coast with beautiful small beaches of crystal clear waters. The park extends itself for approximately 1,000 hectares of land and 2,000 hectares of sea including about seven kilometres of uncontaminated small bays of golden sand alternated with beautiful headlands.
Other tourist goals to visit are in Oria and Carovigno, Ceglie Messapica with their beautiful ancient castles, then Mesagne, Manduria, Ostuni, Massafra, Castellaneta, the beautiful town where Rodolfo Valentino was born, Grottaglie famous for the handmade ceramic products. Other suggested beaches are in the Golfo di Taranto, in particular Campo Marino, Torre Collimena, Punta Prosciutto with its marvellous white sand.

The Swimming pool (10x5 m; 1.40-1.50 m deep) is all to yourself and away from prying eyes! It is in use during the following tourist season: from April 27, 2024 to September 30, 2024. Ask if you have particular necessities or you desire to stay out of this tourist season. YOU WILL NOT PAY the extra amount set for the swimming pool (-170 €). Please do not use an instant booking but send a booking request if you desire a stay at the beginning or at the end of the tourist season.
I always have considered my tourist rental activity as a healthy 'open window facing the world'. I rent properties also in central Venice and Bologna. For me it's a way to travel and meet people staying in front of my laptop so, any question is welcome and I will be pleased to reply.

Have a good stay, Paolo

Unique and remote
The property contact, Costanza, was great. The host/owner didn't ahve the wifi "loaded" when we arrived, and we actaully arrived a day later than scheduled, and we didn't end up having wifi until the following day, which for some is not an issue but it really was for me. The cell service is also very light there and so I had to get on the roof deck to connect- not the best experience. The place is really fun and unique and it IS remote. Maybe 10 mins from any services and about 25-30 mins from a main town. So if you want to be disconnected and in a quite area it is great. We are pretty clean and tidy ppl and the house was up to our expectations when we arrived. I'm not sure it's possible to take a shower and not get a decent amount of what on the floor. There are no TVs in the house, so again if you are wanting to be in a remote area and nto connected it's great, if not then don't pick this one. The pool area and covered patio are very nice and the setting amoung the olive trees is also nice. It's cute and without the WiFi issues it would have been fantastic.

Why they chose this property

A written suggestion here, where I am now typing says: 'write here why did you choose this area'. I can ensure you that I have accurately chosen the place where in 2008 I bought the ruins of this dwelling: I chose it because it is located in a strategic tourist place:

- there are plenty of trulli farmhouse in this part of Apulia, many of them are located in areas closer to the sea but most of them are west of Oustuni hub, where all traffic must pass through to reach the sea at east. As a matter of fact, in July, August, passing through the town of Ostuni from west to east represents a great waste of time due to the traffic jam;

- my trullo is close to the Adriatic sea at east (highlights are the white sand beaches of the Torre Guaceto Marine Reserve) but also to the Ionio sea at west (sand beaches of Campo Marino, Torre Collimena and Punta Prosciutto);

- many are the possibilities of daily tours by car in the historic villages around, including Alberobello, Locorotondo, Cisternino, Martina Franca, Ostuni, Ceglie Messapica, Grottaglie...
mind that all singular towns I have quoted present all original characteristics that make them unique and each of them worths doing a visit ;

- even if my dwelling is immersed in a vast territory spotted only by small rural villages, the direct highway from Brindisi to Taranto permits anyone landing in Brindisi airport to hire a car and reach it in less than half hour. You have to add about one hour if the chosen landing airport is in Bari;

What makes this property unique

A further suggestion here says: 'write what makes your property unique'.
Also in this case I prefer to say why I did buy it and why I did design the restoration in this way:

- I designed the swimming pool as well as the private garden to have almost all the garden, pool and terraced areas away from prying eyes;

- the terrace on top of the building is maybe the tallest place within a 5-mile radius: the sight, especially by night with the full moon, is unique;

- I designed the swimming pool in the right position to receive the last sun beams at sunset;

- the external shower has hot water. I ensure it is a significant value;

- when I chose this trullo dwelling, I was struck by the quite good conditions of the structures, so the vaults are now still the original ones, as well as the drystone walls. I intentionally left them with exposed stonework attesting to the original skills of the ancient farmers. I think 80% of the other trulli in the area are somehow a modern reconstruction of the original ones;

- during my researches for buying an ancient trullo farmhouse I was struck by this trullo for a quite rare characteristic: the presence of a external yard: a sort of wide room surrounded by one-meter tall walls. Originally, in ancient times, it was used as shed for goats and it was covered by a timber frame, isolated with mud and crop roots but, of course, to reestablish it to a modern use, I built a wide wooden pergola to have a shady area below during all the hot summer days. I ensure that the wide table beneath the pergola is a great place;

- I just want to point out another intrinsic positive characteristic to the building: it has the widest main room (the one under the main vault) of all those existing in that rural district: in that part of Apulia you will hardly find another room of those dimensions in a trullo, even in larger trullo dwellings;

- I maintained a philologic approach during the restoration. I did use modern materials just in case of need.
