About this property

Restored 18th century farmhouse on 4.6 private acres within 180-acre Farmstead

Beautifully restored country farmhouse, originally built in 1795. The house sits on 4.6 private acres within an expansive, 180-acre working farm in the historic and cozy town of Salem, NY. The house consists of five bedrooms, two full bathrooms, an impressive library, cozy living room with wood-burning stove and flat screen TV featuring Netflix, Hulu and Amazon and a wide selection of DVDs, cheery sun room with gorgeous views of the property, and a rec room with slate pool table, foosball table, table tennis, loads of board games, and a record player with collection of vintage records. The kitchen is fully stocked with cooking and entertaining needs, and there is ample of space in the common areas to comfortably accommodate large groups.

Our beautiful backyard features an in-ground, heated, salt water swimming pool (open May to mid-October), deck with lounge seating and spa jacuzzi (jacuzzi is open year-round), dining table that seats 12, gas grill and a fire pit (also open year-round and we provide one bundle of complimentary wood). Whether you're hiking through the nearby hills, touring the barns to feed and play with our friendly animals, or walking to town to explore the local shops, your stay here will be one of a kind.

Our Farmstead is home to goats, chickens, horses, donkeys, a pony, pigs and barn cats, all who love attention. In the spring-fall, we also host cows who come to pasture and have their calves on the farm. We offer supervised tours of the barns so guests can feed and play with the animals. You can also collect fresh farm eggs in the chicken coop.

There are two ways to stay at BBFV - the Farmhouse (open year-round) and the Glampground (open Memorial Day Weekend through Columbus Day). Each can be rented by one group at a time and share the larger farmstead (fields, hiking trails, farm barns etc.). The Farmhouse, backyard with pool, jacuzzi, fire pit and the 5 acres of lawns it sits on are private to the group that rents the Farmhouse. The Glampground and pines that surround it are private to that group. The Farmhouse uses the upper driveway to enter/leave while the Glamground uses the lower driveway.

The Farmstead is conveniently located within a 35 minute drive to popular places such as Saratoga Springs and Lake George, NY and Bennington and Manchester, VT that boast lots of activities and things to do -- wineries, golf courses, spas, outlet shopping, horseback riding, lakes for boating, swimming and kayaking, laser tag, movies and more. We are less than an hour from Albany International Airport. In the winter, ski local New York mountains like Willard and West mountains that are under 20 minutes away, or drive 35 minutes into VT to beautiful Bromley. We are an hour from Stratton Mountain, the largest mountain in the area.

A wonderful getaway
We had a three-generation family trip at the farm over Presidents' Day weekend. The house was warm, inviting, and well appointed. The kids loved the game room and everyone enjoyed the hot tub. We skied at Bromley which is about 40 minutes away. Hosts were super responsive and friendly. We'd definitely come back!

Winter getaway
This farmhouse did not disappoint! Gorgeous views, comfortable beds, and lots of things to keep all ages happy. Sarah the host and Ian were very attentive and kind. We especially enjoyed the farm tour with Ian where the kids collected fresh eggs for breakfast and fed the animals. We will definitely be coming back!

Do not miss your chance to stay here!
If you're looking for a quiet, relaxing getaway with a small group, do not miss out on your chance to stay here! Sarah and her family were amazing hosts. They made sure we had everything we needed from day 1! The kids loved our farm tour and roaming chicken, swam in the pool every day and made sure to play every board game in the huge closet! They especially loved the "hidden" room full of toys and books! Would 1000% stay here again! (Can't miss out on the fresh eggs to make a delicious breakfast every morning too.)

Hi, I'm Sarah Parker, youngest daughter of Faith Parker and the late Judson Garrett Parker. A graduate of St. John's University in Queens, NY with a B.S. in Communications and a minor in Business, and currently a Senior Vice President at entertainment marketing agency, Blended Strategy Group. I recently moved back to Salem, NY after spending two decades working in NYC and Los Angeles. My mother is a clinical psychologist who worked at Columbia University and Bankstreet College before recently retiring. She and my late father purchased Blind Buck Valley Farm in 1985. My sister, Nicole Ives, is a professor at McGill University in Montreal, CA and splits her time between there and Hanover, New Hampshire, where her husband, Jeff and three sons, Sam, Ben and Luke, live. My sister Cindy D’Andrea lives in Salem, NY and helps to manage & care for the farm the farm, along with her kids, Ian and Hayleigh Prevost. Though miles might separate us, we are a close-knit family that gathers as frequently as we can at our farm, where we have spent countless Holidays and made priceless memories.

Why they chose this property

The original house or “Little House,” which is the area that is now the downstairs guest room/bathroom and the library above it, was built in 1795. The rest of the house or “Big House” was built in 1805 with post and beam construction and a slate foundation. Our family bought the Farmhouse and the 5 acres it sits on in 1985. We purchased the surrounding farm (180 acres) in the 1990s after the dairy farm that operated went bankrupt. We spent countless weekends, summers and Holidays enjoying the bountiful land and gathering together with family and friends, but as the years went on, life got busy and the house sat vacant. We launched BBVF in 2016 with a mission to give a new generation of people the opportunity to experience our little slice of heaven.

Currently, BBVF is home to two horses, two ponies, two donkeys, two families of goats, two pigs, a variety of chickens, and three barn cats. We also host cows courtesy of our friends at OverEast Family Farm. We hope that you enjoy your time with us, be it at the Farmhouse or in our new Glamground. Please share your experience with us on Facebook and Instagram.

What makes this property unique

The farm is a magical place. Some of our favorite memories are having breakfast in the sunroom overlooking the gorgeous mountain views, building fires and making s'mores around the outdoor fire pit, hiking, sledding and cross-country skiing in the surrounding hills, and sitting together by a roaring fire playing card games.
