About this property

Villa Petritis - Superb Cliff Top Villa with Pool

Perched two hundred metres above the magnificent horseshoe bay of Ahai on the west coast of Paxos, the view from Villa Petritis’ terraces is simply stunning. The villa is very comfortable and homely and is arguably the best location on this beautiful island.

Villa Petritis nestles in the tiny hamlet of Boikatika which is a 10 minute stroll from the village of Magazia & its bakery, grocery stores and tavernas.

A step back in time!
We've had a lovely two week stay at Villa Petritis. The villa it'self is charmingly rustic and the views are absolutely lovely. The pool is a good size, very clean and always inviting! and there are plenty of seats/garden furniture. We spent just about every minute outdoors from when we got up till we went to bed. We were glad of the various shaded areas to sit and enjoy watching the boats come in and out of the cove and caves below us, along with the sunsets too! Mahi and Feri kept us supplied with fresh towels and frequently changed the bed linen. We didn't rent a car. We decided to walk to the local places. which were just like a step back in time and took a taxi to further away villages and arranged with the taxi to come back for us which worked very well. (note - you just have to remember to give the taxi some notice if you want to book one - there are only a few on the island). We hired a boat in Laggos and spent a lovely day going round Paxos and Antipaxos. The eco-supermarket in Magazia is reasonably close and it does do deliveries too! In Magazia there are several places to eat but our favourite place was Averto Day and Night Yard. It was lovely for breakfast, lunch or dinner! We had a wonderfully relaxing time and enjoyed our stay! Thank you Stevie and Ann

So relaxing in a beautifully located villa
We have visited Paxos twice before so know the Island and what it has to offer.. So enough to say the Island has great Greek atmosphere, very freindly and helpful people, super little beaches and great food and tavernas. Using Owners Direct was adventurous for us having to get the connections(plane, taxis, ferries) to run on schedule, they did apart from the outward hydrofoil running an hour late. On arrival off the Hydrofoil we were met by Mahi, the house keeper, hire car and then onto the Villa. Mahi was always available and visited at least three times a week. She had supplied us with loads of provisions to get us started, in fact some lasted the whole fortnight.. When you arrive and walk through the front door, straight through the living area onto the terrace the view is just breathtaking, looking out over the cliffed bay way below. We never tired of this siight, morning, noon and night. From this top terrace you also looked down onto the pool terrace with a delicious looking swimming pool, what more could you want. Well to the side and to the front were another two terrace garden areas as well as a rais terrace where you could have breakfast lunch, whatever, or just move the terrace furniture around to suit. The pool terrace has an enormous umbrella which shades well, but is heavy to move around. At this level is the barbecue and another small bedroom with extra cushions if need for the loungers and obviously toilet to save climbing up to the house. The house is basically a big stone shell with a kitchen extension. There is a main living area with comfortable chairs, sofas sunken below main floor level. Dining table, sideboards and drawers, a cd player and ipod player, coffee table. Above this is the galleried bed area. This "bedroom" looks down on the living room and has wardrobes and drawers. The bed is large and comfortable with mosquito net( which we did not need as we had the windows closed). In the bedroom area is the ensuite. This is a wooden room, almost like a large cupboard but facilitated us quite well except that the sink is far to small and underneath a cabinet so you cannot get your head over to wash, clean teeth, shave - so annoying. Fitted furniture/kitchen is a bit 1970's DIY, no drawers fitted, tiles outdated needing some sealing etc. All this you can put up with. but will need modernizing.. No telivision or aircon, not a problem as there were quiet large fans. Excellent, recommended. A top property. Cat is free, just feed it.

Villa Petritis. Superbly positioned Villa in a lovely part of the Island.
Overall, we had a great time. Great weather, an excellent boat trip round the Island on the "Lucky George'. Enjoyed encountering Art exhibitions in the sleepy Port of Loggos. One of the best restaurants: Emeritis, is very close by. A minor point: the Villa is ,we feel, in need of some updating. One of the toilets leaked, the concrete around the pool is crumbling in places and some air con would be a huge improvement. Mahi, the housekeeper, looked after us very well.

A fantastic holiday
Our stay in Villa Petritis was fabulous. The little extras in the villa like the pool towels, the backgammon set, the books and other really useful day to day things made a real difference both to our luggage weights and to our enjoyment of the holiday. The gardens and views are so beautiful and exactly as shown on the website and the pool was lovely and a perfect size for 2. The location is great for walkers like ourselves - we didn't hire a car although we did get a scooter for a couple of days. Magazia (10 mins walk) was able to provide for most of our needs via the mini market (which has fresh local bread). The new supermarket next to the fire station looks very comprehensive but only opened a couple of days before we left. The taverna in the middle of the village (O llias) was our most regular stop for dinner and the people there were lovely and the food very good. We were also regulars at the Sunset Taverna at Kastanida where the food and views were fantastic and the people lovely. Mahi looked after us very well. She kept the villa and gardens immaculate and was easy to contact and really helpful when we had any queries. Our biggest challenge was leaving the villa to explore the rest of the island but it was lovely to get back after a good walk and cool off in the pool. Can't wait to do it all again....

My parents bought Petritis in 1973 and set about its extensive renovation. They chose its location because the East Coast and its three ports become quite frenetic in peak season but Petritis, on the West Coast, remains secluded and tranquil all year round.

I first visited Paxos with my family in 1968 and have visited every year thereafter ... The island will always be my 'second home' as the locals are kind & welcoming and the scenery is idyllic.
