Gorgeous house in lovely Puglia
My husband, adult daughter, teenage son and I had a wonderful break at Kathleen's villa. There was so much space and the house was amongst the best equipped we have ever rented. The kitchen was well stocked and there was everything we needed to cook and eat. The beds were comfortable and bed linens good quality. All was spotlessly clean on arrival and we were met with the keys, as promised. The outdoor space and pool were lovely and there were several different areas to sit and relax with a meal or a drink. The village of Selva is very leafy and it was nice to walk around and look at all the beautiful homes, including some trulli. We also walked to the nearby pizzeria, the local fine dining restaurant (Il Fagiano) for Sunday lunch, and the village butcher's evening barbecue. We all loved Puglia a lot. It was the least 'touristy' part of Italy we have visited so far. The surrounding countryside is beautiful, with the characteristic fields of olive trees and trulli. We visited some amazing places including Matera and Lecce, plus lovely coastal towns (Monopoli was a favourite), the white city of Ostuni, and Alberobello. Kathleen was a fantastic, accommodating and generous host who made sure we were happy with everything at all stages of the rental, and provided lots of information and tips to enhance our holiday. Her local representative, Evelina, was also very helpful and charming. We would love to return to Puglia, and would have no hesitation in booking this property again.

Relaxing stay and great hospitality
We had a wonderful 10 day stay in this beautiful villa with my husband and our four kids aged 13-5. The villa is really well decorated and has everything you need for a relaxing stay. The kitchen is fully equipped, the rooms are all large with space for lots of people and we could have easily had more people staying and it not feel cramped at all. We didn't use the downstairs kitchen but would be handy if you had more people staying. My teenager loved having his own room and space downstairs and the fact that there was a separate sittingroom downstairs with playstation and lots of DVDs was a big bonus. My youngest two were delighted with all the toys and games to play with - especially handy when we needed a break from the sun. The pool was great - not deep enough to dive but deep enough for the kids to jump in and the steps at the shallow end good for children that aren't confident swimmers. The garden is beautiful too with lots of different areas to sit or eat. We loved the village and the fact that we saw no other British the whole time there. Bar Apollo was great for supplies although there is a hypermarket 15min drive away. Lovely local restaurants close enough to walk to or very short drive. Lots of tourist attractions and lovely towns within 30min drive away and beach is close too. Mostly though the hosts Kathleen and John couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming. They had left a lovely welcome pack and booked restaurants for us (they did ask first) and made our stay as easy as possible. Also Evelina who was there to help once Kathleen and John had left was so lovely and kind and always made sure we had everything we needed and went above and beyond to make sure we had a great holiday. We didn't want to leave and are already talking about coming back. Would highly recommend.

About the host

Host profile image
We live in Twickenham London although we were born in Glasgow, Scotland. In 2006 we bought the villa and it has become a home from home. Furnished to ensure we have all the comforts of home but the joy of Italy. Our daughter had her wedding in the village in 2007. The locals were impressed by the Scottish piper & men in kilts whilst the 170 guests were impressed the fantastic village church, Masseria where the wedding was held, the food & drink from 6pm until 5am and of course the perfect May weather. Our friends agreed the village & surrounding area are outstanding. Now we share the joy of the house with our children/granddaughters 4 months, 7 and 11/friends from UK and overseas and our dog Ben who loves swimming in the ocean. A friendly welcoming village. Having both retired we spend more time here, enjoying the slower pace of life.

Why they chose this property

Unspoilt landscape, amazing people who are so welcoming, the local food & wine make the area a fantastic place to stay. We choose Selva di Fasano as it is a fabulous village which is an ideal location to visit the many outstanding coastal and hilltop towns around. There are numerous bars/restaurants, shops, post office, butcher, fruit stall, Masseria baker/butcher, both butchers do BBQ meals in the evening, which means if you merely want to relax at the villa or in the village you can. You can even get take away food from the restaurants and enjoy it whilst sitting in the garden. In summer months the village is vibrant with music and festivals. A mere 15/20 mins drive to the coast road and you can enjoy the many beaches/coves/lidos and have lunch/dinner by the sea. Have a walk around the village with our map and discover many interesting things to see. There are numerous activities we can arrange for you to enjoy is you wish, bike/walking tours/boat rides in the caves/boat hire/golf/tennis in village. There are also amazing wine/olive tours to enjoy. You can also hire a chef to come to villa and cook for you. Lots to do and see or just enjoy the opportunity to relax in a wonderful Italian village.

What makes this property unique

Having our villa located in one of the most desirable villages (so all the locals tell us!) means we have the best of both worlds. If we decide to have a lazy break we shop locally, eat & drink locally and enjoy all the benefits of being able to walk around and not use the car. However, if we want to visit the many spectacular Italian towns, we are within an easy drive to Martina Franco, Locorontondo, Monopoli, Cisternino, Savelletri, Torre Cannes Ostuni, Alberobello, Leece, Castellano Grotto. Matera, a truly unique town to visit, is an hour's drive away but well worth the visit, enjoy lunch and take in the lovely views as you drive there. Daily markets, boutique shops are also a great way to experience Italy. Heading to the beach is another joy as there are so many to choose from. Sometime we use a lido with all the comforts they provide, other times we merely take our chairs to the beach or find a lovely cove. Eating at the seaside bars/restaurants for either lunch or dinner is an amazing experience. Or visit the fish markets in Savelletri and cook fish caught that morning! All the local restaurants are highly recommended and the fish dishes are freshly caught that day. We provided a list of restaurants, places of interest, local events when guests arrive. We can of course arrange to book restaurants (especially for weekends)tours/events for you before arrival, especially recommended in high season.
