A lovely apartment in a gorgeous place
This was our second stay here and it probably won’t be our last. It is perfect for the annual balloon fiesta in the village and superbly situated for trips out to the Bernese Oberland, Lake Geneva etc either by car or train from the nearby station. The flat itself is cozy and has all the facilities needed. We cook in all the time as local restaurants are quite expensive and the Coop supermarket is a few minutes away for shopping. There is more than enough space for four people and lots of games and books to entertain. The pool and jacuzzi on the lower floor is a great facility that we made good use of and there is a gym if you are that way inclined. You won’t be disappointed.

Excellent!
The bldg itself was fabulous, especially the glassed in indoor pool and jacuzzi! The apartment was perfect- immaculate and charming! The views from the large picture windows of the mountains and the sheep, cows and goats was lovely. And Kathryn was a pleasure to work with. She answered all questions quickly and thoroughly.

La Soldenelle
We had a great week with mixed weather but loved every minute. The accommodation was superb with a large comfortable bedroom and an open plan lounge kitchen. The kitchen was equipped for any dish we wanted to cook and the tv had too many channels to count giving entertainment for the evenings. The block was well appointed and secure with an adjoining car park. Wifi was available on a lower communal floor although I understand many apartments have since got their own service. Also the lower floor had a balcony with great views over the valley. I used the swimming pool and jacuzzi which were brilliant. It was a few minutes walk down into the town where the coop supermarket was situated. The only down side was the view from the apartment was to the rear and although impressive, would have been nicer if it overlooked the valley and the town. Nonetheless it was a great place to stay and I couldn't recommend it enough.

Hi. We have been going to Chateau d'Oex for a number of years. We currently live in the West Midlands having moved from Brighton a few years ago. We have two children, a dog and 2 chickens! Kathryn is self employed. Our children are now teenagers and still enjoy going to Switzerland. We like to rent out the apartment because we love it and want to make the experience available to others. It is such a shame for the apartment to be locked up and unused in between the times that we can get out there. We try to make sure all bookings are handled quickly and responsibly. We also provide lots of information, drawing on our years of experience in visiting Chateau d'oex. Our aim is for our guests to enjoy it there as much as we do!

Why they chose this property

Kathryn first went to Chateau d'Oex as student in the summer of 1986 working as a waitress at the Hotel Roc et Neige. She loved the village (especially the outdoor pool in summer!) and went for numerous visits over the next 2 decades with the family. Our first child was 3 when she first visited and our second only 18 months. In 2005 we learnt that the Hotel La Soldanelle was to be converted into 5 star self catering apartments so decided to bite the bullet and buy one. We love the central location of La Soldanelle, just a few minutes walk from the village, the station and the cable car. It also right next to a lovely stream and has fantastic views over the mountains. Our kids (now teenagers), friends and family all adore it there. It is just so picturesque with loads to do all year round.

What makes this property unique

We adore the scenery, the fresh air, the sounds of the cow bells... We also love La Soldanelle which is a beautifully preserved historic building, retaining charm with the added benefit of luxury and mod cons. We love how easy it is to get there, by train or by car. We love that it is not a "tacky" resort. Chateau d'Oex is a proper traditional Swiss village which also has the benefit of great skiing, walking, transport access & facilities. It is not a party destination but there is enough to do to keep everyone occupied. We love the cosiness of the apartment & we often snuggle up together to watch DVDs and play games. Sometimes we walk down to the village in the evening to go ten pin bowling or to eat. In summer we love walking and relaxing. In winter we love to ski, skate and sledge!
