Prada is situated in an advantageous position on its very own hill, offering 360 degree views of rolling countryside making it the perfect setting for a holiday in one of the most magnificent areas of France. It benefits from a large (10m x 5m) heated swimming pool and a beautiful 75sq.m terrace, perfect for lazy lunches whilst kids can play. The Gite is very comfortable and full of light and a self-contained part of a large 300 year old farm house where the owners live onsite.
Gite apartment in Castera Verduzan, Gers - Tranquil Setting, Amazing Views, Private Pool
- english, french
We live with our two children at Prada all year round. We love the area and feel the house is perfectly positioned to explore the very best of the Gers. It is a beautiful house with all mod cons and comfortable living accommodation. And we enjoy the climate and feel very lucky to be bringing our children up in a house boasting a beautiful garden with a pool.
Alex purchased this Farmhouse in 2007
Why Alex chose Larroque-Saint-Sernin
We chose to buy in this area as we fell in love with the charms of the Gers and love the laid back way of life. We love the cuisine in this area and enjoy eating out at the vast range of restaurants on our doorstep. We love the calmness of the house and it's countryside position. We are sure you will too!
What makes this Farmhouse unique
We are lucky enough to be close to the activities lake in Castera Verduzan which is great for the kids and is always full of life. And also we have a horse racing track just 2 minutes away and an afternoon at the races is a real treat. There are local markets everyday of the week with abundant produce and artisan products to savour. Over the Summer there are many Vide Greniers and local Fetes to enjoy. You cannot fail to be busy and yet relaxed at the same time!

Peace and quite surrounded by gorgeous French country side !
Lovely gite at the back of a lovely house , panoramic views all around , nice heated pool which you are responsible for during the stay , the gite has more or less have everything you need except a washing machine which we missed ! The wifi is slow and temperamental , and there is no maid service you can ask for clean towels and sheets every sat though! The owners are nice and helpful and keep themselves to themselves but you can knock on them with any questions , there is lots to see and the shops and petrol stations are close by .overall an enjoyable and very peaceful 2 weeks .
Thanks so much for the review Sayeh, we're really glad you had a lovely relaxing holiday in the Gers. Come back soon :)
Second time around
Our second stay at Prada and just as enjoyable as our first vist. Plus points? A warm welcome and excellent outdoor facilities, with a first-class pool. Indoors, the bedrooms are fine, but the living area/kitchen is a bit on the small side if you need to stay inside with six people. Fortunately, the weather is usually so good that this hardly ever a problem!
We holidayed at Au Prada with our two teenage children and had a wonderfully relaxing week. The location is wonderful and the panoramic views amazing. We enjoyed many an hour just sitting (with a glass of wine!!) enjoying the vistas.
The pool is a great size and was always a really comfortable temperature. We barbequed almost every night and made good use of the outdoor seating area for both eating and relaxing. We also enjoyed many table tennis tournaments!
We had a couple of less sunny days and took the advice found in the information folder to visit Auch and Chateau Lavardens, which are both within a one hour round trip distance. We also really enjoyed our trip to Chateau Mont Luc (St Puy - 5km from gite) where we were able to look around the chateau and have a free wine tasting. There is no entry fee, but its worth asking for a tour of the cellar as well. Our guide was really helpful and had lots of local information. Needless to say, we purchased some local wine as well and the ingredients needed to make a Pousse Rapier cocktail.
Alex and Jo were very welcoming and friendly hosts but did not intrude on our holiday at all, but they emphasised that we only needed to ask if we wanted any advice or help.
We had a lovely week here and our only regret is that we were not able to have 2 weeks!!
Try not to fall in love
From start to finish our stay was wonderful!!!
Alex and Jo are warm, welcoming and great company, not to mention hosts.
Upon our arrival Alex had researched event and activities to do during our stay as we mentioned we wanted to experience as much as we could and we saw some amazing things we wouldn't have otherwise. With so much to explore and do the days fly by far too quickly and we are already making plans for a return.
The gite is very well equipped, caters for every need of a family and is wonderfully relaxing to return to after a day of activities or to just unwind during the day with nature providing the soundtrack.
The local night markets are a must as are the food and music festivals with so much on offer you don't know where to start.
You are ideally situated for exploring the area with a whole array of little market towns, larger provincial towns and the drive to the Pyrenees is well worth it if you find the time to fit that in. History is everywhere but when your mind is fit to bursting with trying to take it all in you just need to step outside into the evening air and let the open views across rolling hills take your thoughts elsewhere. Falling that, look up at night and if the skies are clear you can watch the best show from earth over a beer or wine.
Many thanks for a wonderful stay and amazing introduction to the area with it's incredibly friendly atmosphere. We'll certainly be returning for more.
Great location, warm welcome, excellent outdoor facilities.
We had a great time but were fortunate that the weather was kind. The sleeping accommodation in the gite is very good, but the living area is a bit small if the weather is bad and you have to stay indoors all day. The shower room is also on the small side. That being said, we would certainly be willing to recommend Prada to others. Its strengths are its beautiful location and its superb outdoor facilities (especially the pool). The proprietors were also very helpful.
Relaxing holiday in beautiful Gers
We visited Au Prada for a week in July 2016, and really enjoyed a relaxing time with our family.
The property is set in a rural location with no other properties nearby, and the apartment is a self-contained portion of the overall house.
The outside space was the highlight for us, we particularly enjoyed the pool (which was heated to a nice warm temperature!) there is a nice terrace area with space to BBQ eat and relax. There is also space for the kids to run around, and a large trampoline to tire them out!
Inside the living area was a little on the small side for energetic kids, but with so much space outside this isn’t limiting if the sun is shining.
Alex and Jo were very attentive and gave us some ideas of local things to, but also left us to enjoy our holiday without feeling overlooked.
There is a lake just 5 mins drive away which was great to visit with lots of facilities and things to do for the kids.
The sunsets from the terrace were beautiful, and with the local sunflowers in bloom this part of France was a perfect place to unwind.
Beaches are 2 hours drive away on the Atlantic coast.
