About this property

SPRING BREAKS - COSY COTTAGE; BEACHES; DOG FRIENDLY

One of a short terrace of Victorian cottages with bags of original character. It is comfortably furnished and well equipped. Cast iron multifuel burner in the sitting room. Sun trap garden laid to lawn. The cottage is a 2 minute walk to Burry Port centre with shops, pubs, restaurants, and the marina, harbour, lighthouse and town beaches just beyond. New childrens playground just around the corner. Burry Port is well placed for access to Cefn Sidan, Wales' longest (7 mile length) beach and numerous activities at the stunning family friendly Pembrey Country Park. The Millennium Coastal Park passes through for miles of cycling and walking along beautiful clear seawater estuary coastline. Within easy day trip reach of the Gower Peninsula and Pembrokeshire coastlines for breathtaking scenery, beaches and walking. Carmarthenshire is informally known as the 'garden' county of Wales; the National Botanic Garden of Wales, historic gardens, houses and places of interest are all within manageable travel distances.

Out and about round Burry Port
Directions to the property were good. I was initially unable to find the key..but just hadn’t read the instructions properly. Parking could have been an issue but I found a space, having driven to the end of the walkway where the property is, turning right and parking outside a property where there is plenty of room for at least four cars to park side by side. I initially thought the property was quite small but settled into it and realised how cozy it was. We had a pretty wet weather week, but we’re able to flick the heating on to get warmed up and air our wet things. We loved the location, several pubs in strolling distance and a Greek restaurant, we visited them all. The garden to the property was a real bonus, dog friendly and secure, with garden furniture that we did get chance to make use of. The coast and the coast path are a short walk away and we’re the main reason we chose this location. The railway station is also only minutes away, where we caught the train to Carmarthen one rainy afternoon. The owner was responsive to messages and arranged repair of one of the appliances while we were there. Came home feeling happy and relaxed.

Individual Property
How lovely to stay somewhere with so much character. An ideal location for us. The only downside is parking on the street - which was actually better than we thought and difficult to avoid in Burry Port. Fabulous weather meant we could enjoy the garden. Neighbours had a very raucous party that lasted on their garden until after 1am - but miraculously once we went inside and shut the windows we could not hear a thing.

Fabulous short stay
Loved the quirky cottage. Very cosy. Only used the two main bedrooms. Very warm despite the winter weather conditions. Our pup loved the long garden. Ideal location for walks to the nearby beach. Fab pub 5mins walk away, locals all very friendly. We would definitely return. Thank you

About the host

My childhood was full of freedom, sunshine, fresh air, of being near the sea, beaches and big open skies. Having lived in London and Bristol for many years, I would yearn to be back and would be happy to spend time trekking in and out to get those few precious days on or near the coast and return home relaxed and replenished. It has been a long term ambition to be within a stones throw of the beach and the sea and one day I just woke up and thought it's time to make this happen - so, as they say, 'Where there's a will there's a way' and it has proved to be one of the best decisions I've ever made!

Why they chose this property

Burry Port is easily accessible from the M4 but this part of the coast is relatively unknown and therefore hasn't been overdeveloped or spoilt. There's a strong sense of community spirit in the town which shows through the great friendliness and hospitality extended to all.
The golden sandy beaches are fantastic especially at Pembrey Country Park and Cefn Sidan - plenty of level cycling, walking and beach-combing with something different to see on every occasion; the bird life, light, sea, even sand yachting! If you feel like exploring further afield there is a host of different day trip locations; houses, gardens, towns, waterfalls, beach coves.

What makes this property unique

The cottage was owned and lived in by four generations of the same family and has retained much of its original quaintness, character and charm and it has a very relaxing atmosphere. Its great to wake up in the morning and peak out at the views of the Gower and if the wind is in the right direction hear the sound of the sea. Kids love the garden -originally planted for self sufficiency in veg but now lawned and ideal for running around or clambering the old apple tree. Its a true hotspot - hence the canvas curtain over the front door (as the paint was burning off) and when the weather is balmy a great place to catch the last of the sun with an evening drink or barbecue. Happy Holidays!
