About this property

Superb Gite With Large Heated Pool, Children's Play Area, Rouede, Haute Garonne

Le Casteras is a village farmhouse set in 6000m2 of gardens, mostly mown grass with plenty of space to kick a football around or play hide and seek in the orchard. There is also a trampoline and swing/slide set. The gite is situated at the end of the family house, overlooking the terrace and pool.

Guests are invited to share the use with the owners of their fenced large 12m x 6m solar heated pool (max depth 1.6m). The solar pool heating makes the property ideal for holidays from May to October . The gite has its own patio with table and chairs and barbecue for outside dining.

Situated in a small village next to the church, the property is ideal for exploring the area, bird-watching, fishing or mountain activities. There are some delightful, easy walks close by and a 1912m mountain for the energetic about 20 minutes away. There are also lots of activities for children within easy driving distance.

The village has its own bakery and restaurant. We are 1 hour from Spain, Lourdes and Toulouse and about 2 1/2 hours from both the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts.

Please note that we do not accept bookings for less than 5 days

Quiet rural family holiday
Alison and Mike were lovely hosts for our 4 weeks. They were always on hand if we needed anything and were a great source of information about the area. The gite was really well stocked with everything we needed from kitchen items to kids toys and we were provided with lots of delicious produce from the garden. The kids loved having the trampoline and swings to play on and we all enjoyed the large pool, particularly on the hot days. The village bakery had closed which was a shame but was probably beneficial to our waistlines. The restaurant in the village was fantastic. It was a great spot from which to explore the local villages and towns and get into the mountains, particularly on the bike.

Un séjour au top
Nous avons passé une superbe semaine à Rouede. Alison et Mike sont aussi adorables que discrets, le gîte est très bien équipé et la piscine a fait le bonheur des enfants toute la semaine. Rien à redire.

About the host

Hosted by Alison and Mike Homer

Host profile image
Mike and Alison are English and have been living in France for almost 20 years. Mike was a teacher, and Alison worked at Airbus in Toulouse, but recently retired so now has far more time to enjoy this amazing area!

Why they chose this property

We decided to move to France in 2005 whilst our daughters were still young enough to learn the language. Alison formerly worked for Rolls-Royce and it seemed logical to move near to the aerospace centre of Toulouse. Two years research and many visits later brought us to Rouede. Within an hour of Toulouse and yet close to the mountains. Alison fell in love with the house as soon as she saw it, although it was covered in snow at the time and we had no idea what the views were like until we revisited in the Summer to make an offer. We have found the people in the village very welcoming and we have developed friendships over here. Mike enjoys walking in the hills and mountains and Alison is a member of a local choir.

What makes this property unique

The House is located in a very quiet and friendly village. The views and local walks sold the property to us. The weather is warm from April through to the end of October with a "hot bit" in the middle. September is a particularly lovely month to be sat out in the garden or in the pool. We usually can swim from April to the end of October. Winter doesn't really show itself until January and February, the winter season seems short here and we rarely get large falls of snow.
