Weekend break with dogs
Lovely old 17th century cottage. Kitchen a bit tired and the reviews recommending taking all essentials with you were invaluable. Settled in quickly, very comfortable. Solitude was perfect especially over bonfire night with our two dogs. Garden completely stock proof so very safe for children and pets. Small issue we had (missing corkscrew) was resolved by the lovely owner Mary promptly. Mary can provide lots of information about the cottage and it's history. Fascinating. Definitely one to return to we feel. Kim, Rod, Rufus & Kizzy

Nice little break
the property was ideal if you want a remote hideaway with easy access to the hills...town and beach not too far away if thats your thing. property had everything you need including a basket of logs for the cosy fire. looking to go back in the summer - the only bit id change is to trim down the front hedge so you can see the spectacular view down the valley when sat on the patio thanks Mary

About the host

Host profile image
I take pride that, Penycoed, on the doorstep of Southern Snowdonia (W244) and my Knightsbridge flat in Eresby House (E2379) are first and foremost family homes rather than purely holiday lets.

Why they chose this property

Penycoed has been part of the family farm for generations. It is situated on a hill in the picturesque Dyfi valley on the gentle southern slopes of Snowdonia. The coast and the old estuary port of Aberdovey, now a well known tourist destination, with its sandy beaches, sailing and golfing opportunities are a short drive away.

What makes this property unique

Being a city dweller, the cottage with its large enclosed garden continues to provide the perfect retreat and antidote to a stressful life throughout the year. Carefully renovated, it retains its period features and is furnished accordingly.

In winter, the large inglenook with its open log fire provides the perfect opportunity to relax, whilst in summer the substantial lawns, planting and high hedge provide private spaces to relax when not enjoying the wider amenities of the area.

Whilst being secluded, it has amenities such as restaurants, pubs and even a village shop and post office nearby. The acclaimed Centre for Alternative Technology is a few miles away.
