Csodás ház, csodás kilátással
Először jártam a környéken, nem tudtam mire számítsak, de ennél megfelelőbbet el sem tudok képzelni. A ház mindent tud, amire egy olyan csapat vágyik, akik kifejezetten kerülni szeretnék a túristaközpontokat. Kiválóan felszerelt, kényelmes, tágas. Mi nyolcan voltunk ott.

Blissful retreat
Spectacular setting for a complete break. Remote (as described!) with a good number of walks from the doorstep. The house has wonderful character, and a lot more space inside than the listing perhaps suggests. It's adjacent to a working farm, but if anything that was a reassurance given how remote the property is (and there was no noise or any other intrusion - you can't even see the farmyard from the property). Only advice - while the house is wonderfully well equipped (as you'd expect from a home!) take *everything* you'll need with you, as it's a long trip for supplies. I'm thinking things like cooking oil, fuel for the fire etc. If you're unsure if it's there, either assume not, or ask Candy - her communication was excellent throughout. If you want to unplug, this is the perfect place to do it.

Sojourn in West Lakeside District
We had a lovely time staying in this large and well-apportioned cottage. It is located on a rolling fell with only a few working farms within the close vicinity (closest town is a 10 minute drive away.) There is a spectacular view from the back yard and we spent many mornings and early evenings just watching sheep roam surrounded by distant mountains. There are quite a few great activities (including a not-to-be-missed trip to Wastwater Lake, one of the most beautiful views in all of England) Muncaster Castle and the seaside, within a half hour's drive, but many of the more popular sites (Windermere Lake, Derentwater, Beatrix Potter's Home, Wordsworth's Dove Cottage, etc.) are over an hour away -- at least for those unfamiliar with driving on local routes outside the highways. There are also some beautiful local hikes near the cottage. I would highly recommend this house for anyone looking for a quiet, bucolic setting who doesn't mind a bit of driving to reach many of the tourist sites. The house was very clean and well stocked with basics and there are some convenient options for groceries and other necessities. All in all, I highly recommend the cottage for those looking for a quiet and visually inspiring location.

About the host

Host profile image
We're Candy and Andrew Goad - and we're lucky enough to live in the Lake District, waking up every day to the sight of mountains and rushing streams, and the sounds of skylarks and sheep. I worked in the creative industry in a previous existence, while Andrew loves doing up old houses and bringing them back to life. He's also an ace dry-stone waller! I manage the bookings and make sure everything is as gorgeous as it can be.

Why they chose this property

High Ground Cottage was love at first sight. We'd never seen anywhere like this - set amidst wild moorland and the glorious Western fells, with Britain's highest mountain, Scafell rising before your eyes.
It was owned by an artist before us, and is the perfect retreat for anyone with an artist's soul!
There's something magical about this place - we feel privileged to live here most of the year. But we're also delighted to enable others to stay here for the short window of opportunity over the summer, from the end of May to the end of September. NB We have now made High Ground available for the month of October in 2021 including the half term week.

What makes this property unique

Total peace, the essence of the Lake District all around you, no traffic (the cottage is on a dead-end farm track), skylarks, wild cloud formations and rainbows, hares nibbling on grass in the garden and herdwick sheep grazing in the fields in front of you - but also some wonderful things to see and do nearby. Although favourite Lake District attractions are within easy reach, this is an uncrowded and spectacularly beautiful part of the Lakes.
It's perfect for grown-ups who need to recharge their batteries and regain their zest for life - but also brilliant for kids who will have a great time on the little steam train to the coast nearby, the great beaches you can drive to, the owl sanctuary, Cumbria Heavy Horse rides, boat trips and much more.
