Nice and clean property. Great location. Complete privacy. The owner was extremely polite and attentive. I look forward to staying here again.
I just recently spent four nights here with my boyfriend. The neighborhood is wonderful - there’s no lack of great bars and restaurants within walking distance. The apartment is nice; it seems to have had some improvements done relatively recently and they do a decent job cleaning. The layout is very spacious, but keep in mind that it is a basement so the ceilings are low and there are some elevation changes that can be a tripping hazard if you’re not paying attention. There isn’t any A/C, but there are several fans throughout the apartment that keep air circulating and being in a basement, or at least stays a little cooler than if you were above ground.
The house is divided into 2-3 apartments upstairs with permanent tenants + the basement apartment in the listing, which you access from a “separate entrance,” which is just a side door that isn’t completely separate. The other tenants use the side door to get in and out of their apartments, and often left it unlocked/propped open. Otherwise, the people living in the house didn’t really bother us as another review had mentioned, but you can hear walking and talking pretty audibly from below if that is something that bothers you. We did have access to the private garage space which was pretty convenient and made being in the city a little less stressful.
Al was very prompt and responsive with any questions I had. Overall, I think this apartment is a nice place to stay if you want to get out and explore the city, and Little Italy is a great neighborhood to do that in!
This is an okay place that probably should be a full time rental property as there are 2 other rentals in the same house. The people upstairs were up till all hours on weekends which I do not begrudge anyone the right to party, however I believe it would be easier for a full renter to deal with this as they would have more input than a VRBO renter. Also I am not sure how many garbage cans one property can have but the ones provided were not enough as there was always garbage scattered around the front yard. Like I said this is probably a good long term rental but I would not stay here again short term.
We have stayed in this apartment a couple times and absolutely would again. The neighborhood is great, it's close to transport, and it's a very comfortable apartment.
A perfect stay for a couple!
We were there for 3 nights. It was nice just like the photos and very spacious. It was larger than what we were imagining. It was close to plenty of restaurants and stores. We definitely recommend and were pleased with the overall experience. Thanks Al for a great experience!
BUYER BEWARE!! 1 Star Only Because I Had To
...At least that's what the owner, Al, said to me when my family and I stayed at here in August, 2018. (I was considering legal action if you're wondering why it took so long to post this review). A garage parking space was promised prior to booking, and a detailed email was sent on how to get to it, but on the date of arrival I was told it wasn't available and there was parking on the street.
We arrived to a hot, humid and stuffy apartment. There were used coffee grounds in the coffee maker, stagnant water in the drying rack, mould on the wall of the shower and the washer/dryer sat in a closet on a mouldy shelf. The photos fail to show stairs leading to an upstairs apartment to a locked door that we didn't know who had access to it. Al promised a refund of cleaning fee, but that never happened.
We tried to find the AC only to find there wasn't one. Called Al who said there is no AC, which is apparently very common in TO, but there were a couple of fans and 2 small windows that could be opened. He said the ad didn't include AC and it was my fault for not reading it more carefully. Asked again about garage parking and was told that I would be OK parking on street overnight, even though signs said you needed a permit. Went out for dinner and came back to a loud beeping noise coming from apartment. The smoke alarm was going off. Called Al who said that opening the dishwasher after its done causes it to go off. We didn't even dirty a dish, let alone turn it on. The humidity caused it to go off. I could have cut it with a knife. He said not to worry because there's another one in the furnace room, which we couldn't access to verify this.
Woke up next morning after a hot, sweaty night of baking in my fitful sleep. Guess what? Got a $30 parking ticket!! Surprise! Surprise!
That was it. Packed up the family and left, even though we had 2 more nights. None of us could stand spending another night in that sauna. Texted Al and demanded a refund. He agreed to refund 2 nights, but after many emails and texts I have yet to see it.
So my fellow VRBO travelers if you're considering this property, DON'T. Read the fine print, avoid learning things the hard way, and above all remember: BUYER BEWARE!!!
